Coming to PSN Today: Gravity Crash

Hi everyone! I’m Michael Graham, the US producer for Gravity Crash. Earlier this year at E3, we had the opportunity to introduce everyone to a brand-new old-school arcade style shooter, Gravity Crash. Well, I’m here to let you know that Gravity Crash will be available on PlayStation Store today for $9.99!

Just to give you a little background info, Gravity Crash combines vintage arcade shooter gameplay with striking HD vector graphics running in 1080p at 60 frames per second. Piloting a small craft armed with an arsenal of main and special weapons, a rechargeable shield and a carefully watched fuel gauge, players battle gravity and inertia through 35 levels that each feature environmental dangers, enemies and other obstacles. Along the way, players will encounter volcanic eruptions, winding caverns and bodies of water in their pursuit to complete their mission.

But wait, there’s more. You can create your own levels and share them with friends! Here to talk to you more about it is my colleague, Stewart Gilray, CEO of the development studio, Just Add Water, to give you the low-down.

Hi everyone, how are you guys doing?

What started for us as an idea almost three years ago is now about to invade your lives. Gravity Crash for PlayStation 3 will launch on the PlayStation Store today!

When we started working with Sony on this project we were certain we had a great idea for a game, and I have to say we are incredibly proud of what we’ve created and we can’t wait to see what you guys think when you get hold of it.

When you download the Trial edition of Gravity Crash you will get access to 4 levels from the 35 single-player and 12 multiplayer planets. You will also get full access to the game editor, where you will be able to design and create your own levels straight away, however only when you buy the game will you be able to challenge the world by publishing your creations on PlayStation Network.

Actually, I’d like to geek out for a moment and tell you about one of the little things we included in the Trial edition which, as far as we are aware, no one else has done before: at the end of the demo we have a dynamic “Published Levels” counter that tells you how many custom-made levels have been published to PSN. Personally I can’t wait to watch that number get bigger and bigger over the coming months!

I suppose that you’d also like to know how much all of this will cost.

$9.99 of your Earth money, will buy you:

  • 35 Single-player levels, including hidden and boss levels
  • 12 Multiplayer levels
  • 3 Multiplayer modes
  • Different player ships
  • Special weapons
  • Weapon power-ups
  • 20 devious Trophies
  • Leaderboards
  • Over 200 editor items

Speaking of the editor, just to reiterate what I said in my previous update, EVERY level in the game has been built with the same game editor, and you will have full access to it in the game. Here’s a little development diary from us at Just Add Water showing a bit of the editor in action!

And finally, during December we will be releasing a few extras to the PlayStation Store, so keep a look out for Gravity Crash wallpapers and themes. So all I’ve got left to say is thanks to everyone for your support since the game was announced. We hope you enjoy it and we can’t wait to see what you guys can create with the Editor!

  • I would like to see Tuesday updates everyweek, just as long a Holiday wasn’t on Tuesday… I told my buddies the store updated, they didn’t believe me… lol.

  • cool stuff

  • this looks amazing prtty cool

  • HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT AND RIPOFF!!!

    Why did no-one say custom maps aren’t avaiable in multiplayer games? Instead we have a few dull races and death matches with nothing in them. Seriously, HOME games have more to them than Gravity Crash’s maps. No boosts, no powerups, no traps, no environmental hazards, no external forces. All possible in the editor, but not in the multiplayer game.

    I don’t understand how a developer can clearly want to create a high-class game, refine the single player so nicely, and then chuck in a trashy multiplayer tickbox feature. It’s embarassing. If the game had been sold honestly (user created levels only available in single player. Mutliplayer levels do not have any of the single player features like hazards and powerups) I wouldn’t have wasted my money.

  • @54: Oh puhleeze. You can’t call this game a ripoff at $9.99, for what you do get. Maybe if you ask nicely, they’ll add in the functionality, but until then, I guess you’ll just have to make do with:

    * 35 Single-player levels, including hidden and boss levels
    * 12 Multiplayer levels
    * 3 Multiplayer modes
    * Different player ships
    * Special weapons
    * Weapon power-ups
    * 20 devious Trophies
    * Leaderboards
    * Over 200 editor items

    It’s a rough life, I know. Sure, they could improve upon it, but come on, $9.99 is priced right. It’s not like they just slapped this together. It’s a pretty tight package of retro-style gaming.

  • Personally, I would like to see multiplayer matches over PSN, although, I’m glad that they provided a local multiplayer mode, since one of the best parts of gaming back in the days was getting together in the same room to play.

    Still, it would be nice to have the whole screen to work with in a multiplayer match, and also some of my PSN buddies are in other cities. I was encouraging them to get this game, but now I have to go back and give them the bad news about online multiplay and instead promote the single and local multiplay only. Still a great DLC game and priced right.

  • When will the PSP version come out?
    Still getting this one though

    i would like to play over the psn!

    PS One classics the same version is avaliable for psp and psn. And gravity crash?

  • @55. Yes, as a single player game it’s good. But if you bought it as a multiplayer game, it isn’t.

    * 35 Single-player levels, including hidden and boss levels – Hooray!
    * 12 Multiplayer levels – Only four for each mode
    * 3 Multiplayer modes – not very exciting and not explained before sale
    * Different player ships – Nicely balanced
    * Special weapons – Not in multiplayer
    * Weapon power-ups – Not in multiplayer
    * 20 devious Trophies – None multiplayer
    * Leaderboards – Not in multiplayer
    * Over 200 editor items – Not in multiplayer

    If you ordered what sounded like a minibus for carrying lots of passengers, and instead they delivered a 2 seater sports coupe, is the correct response, “oh well, I can’t get the orphans to the seaside anymore, but at least I have a funky sports car for me,” or, “Excuse me. This isn’t what I wanted to buy. Can you please fix this”?

  • Sweeeeeeeet little game, I hope the DLC is on the way with new items/level scenery. Love what you guys did with water/lava.
