Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.
This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.
Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

If I wanted social networking crap and not a media center/gaming system I would have gone with the 360 but nice work but seriously focus on what the PS3 can already do and expand on that since the Music player, browser and other things are obviously lacking.
We need an acutal url bar that we can click on to bring up the keyboard and so on and a better interface cause the grey everything with the XMB and all settings is killing me along with icons since it should be better even if its stock.
sounds like a decent update.
but you know what would be very cool, if you can link the PSN so that you can text message phones, kinda like AIM. Just a suggestion to ponder upon

Where is cross game chat? it’s been nearly a year and a half since we ask for the feature. It could be time to listen to playstation owners……..That’s the only thing Xbox live has that PSn don’t. You know we want it so bad. Why does it take so long?
Hey, don’t know if anyone has mentioned this earlier but since the 3.0 update lanched I haven’t been able to play music and watch my photos at the same time, and this is really starting to bugg me. Anyone that knows what happened???

You are not delivering what your consumers want! This update is crucial! Christmas is very near and many, many people will soon be buying a PS3… people LOOK at what the PS3 has to offer. And if it doesn’t have cross-game voice chat or any of the genius ideas we have on these forums, they will go after another console that appeals to them. Please give us features that we really wanted from the start. This update is good, but not great. Don’t tell me your team has worked 4 months to come up with something your 5-year olds have told you about. You’ve came up with only 3 features? Come up with a list of ideas and wanted features to work on, search these boards for feedback, and at least inform us that they’re soon coming!
Come on… if you have to, hire a better team that is dedicated to delivering what the consumers really want.
here is an idea for you how about instead using color for your trophy card and the gray box around your name with your color have a picture there in place for the color have like a fire flame picture NOT colors theme or a colorful sack boy picture or something that looks better then just a plane color….thats my idea hope to see it on XMB Cross game chat & in-game music is HIGHLY asked features then anything but as long as you guys are trying to get it to us i don’t mind i can wait but DON’T LIE to us like eric limpel did with the new avatars coming in 3.0 firmware update that was the biggest let down of all time……

I am not a facebook user but looks like Sony will be getting them new users like myself.

I will be excited when you stop toying around and put cross game voice chat in. I mean seriously what is the delay? The number one feature we all want (and you know we want) you do not put in!? The whole technical difficulty thing is a bogus excuse. Cross game chat tech is out and has been for some time…give us the cross game voice chat!

Why do we have to manually sync trophies? I love my PS3, but I know that the achievements on the 360 are on your list of achievements as soon as you earn them, boom, they are there! Also, I have noticed that it takes about 10 seconds for a trophy notification to appear on screen when I gain a new trophy, why is that? When you get an achievement on the 360, it is awarded to you instantly! It makes the trophy system feel tacked on and and after thought. Please sort this out Sony, make trophies sync AUTOMATICALLY and also award them instantly like the 360 achievements are. Thanks.

For all those that want X-Game Voice Chat I think that it should have a certain limitations to it.
When 2 people or more want to voice chat and are all playing different single player games it should be allowed but if one person is playing a Online Multiplayer game such as Resistence 2,Killzone 2 etc…etc…etc.. that person should not be allowed to chat because the only people he/she should be talking to are his teamates in the games he/she is playing with.
This is a limitation that should be included when it comes to cross game voice chat. I think everyone would be happy that way.
don’t use facebook or twitter, even if I did the sites don’t even work on the PS3 browser. Like the other things on the update though.
Hi I sorta new here. I visit a lot anyway its a nice update but i do agree the music player on both the psp and ps3 need a update bad. Like displaying cover art BETTER and a search function and album also some type of artist bio and song info like last.fm would be cool

Ok, my idea for ths ps3 is that i can be the ultimate media center:
* You are working on the motion controllers (that’s the only reason i didin’t bought WII)
* I really would like a better library for fotos, videos as weel mp3.
* i Would really really would like if you change the Browser to Google Chomme or opera!
Buying things online in ps3 browser would be greate:D
I’m just happy you guys (for the most part) got rid of that ugly friends list.
It was terrible. Now, I like it. It would have been a bit better to just give us an option to turn those gray boxes off, but this is fine.
Now just turn off the background blur, make the font the way it used to be (SMALLER!), and increase the resolution of images when I view them using in-game XMB (have you seen those trophy images? They’re really low res when using in game xmb), and that’ll be great!
BTW avatars, any info?

Also, I would love the option to create my own PSN icon…pending approval prior to use of course…that way users don’t make inappropriate content.
Honestly the biggest things that can be done to improve the PS3 are little ones.
Eg. make it so we don’t exit completely when pressing back from an email…it should just go back one step.
Little errors in the firmware like these are all over…I could step ya through sooo many but I doubt you’ll listen. I’ve been posting since the release and things only get your attention if you want them yourself I’ve found.
Many times things were added that I’m quite sure weren’t top of the consumer list.
Anyway, here’s hoping that you contact me some day and enlist my services. When it comes to ideas, I can be of service.
At the very lest, watch the posts regarding the small required feature improvements…because those believe it or not are the backbone of functionality.

– UNIVERSAL MUSIC (Seriously, it’s incredibly annoying having the music stopped simply when going into a setting, or your profile, or the store. Let alone booting up a game)

– AUTO-SYNC TROPHIES
– SMALLER XMB WHEN BRINGING XMB UP IN-GAME (Remove features with you can’t use IN-GAME, creating a mini-menu).

So, another update that adds features, but doesn’t fix the bugs.
Really annoying bugs that have survived all updates:
Horribly inconsistent lip sync when playing video over UPNP. (can be as much as a second out of sync)
Extremely long delays (more than a minute) after fast forward or rewind in video over UPNP
Still no Dvorak keymap.
Is it too much to ask for an improvement to your Library?
For a system that upscales & filters video so well, it certainly fails as any hint of a media center when you have more than a dozen files and have to scroll continuously to pick a song or movie etc.
PLEASE update the Library system, it can’t be that hard… and maybe you can take the time to build a decent media center GUI, but the library is most important because it drives me & most ppl I know, nucking futs!
Also, please remove the IRRITATING BUG mentioned above. After reading a message, when pressing O it takes you back to the main menu, rather than going back one step to continue reading messages.
Still no mention of cross game voice chat? Come on Sony! PS3 is still hindered by it’s pathetic online gaming capabilities.
Sounds nice, everything is good.. I Like that your starting to expand the gamercard. Maybe someday we could have our trophy level and trophy count on those ;)
The photos thing would be cool, would be nice to expand that onto the music and videos.

The one thing I don’t exactly understand is why is it Sony will implment a feature like fixing the way pictures are shown in folders on the XMB but they don’t at the same time implement it to the Music and Video menu also. Same thing with the Playlists. They make it available to the Pictures and Music but not to the Video.
Why do you do this Sony?
I do not really like the update. Could be better. You guys need to match what microsoft is doing. OR BETTER! (Would prefer better.

Yo wheres our CROSS-GAME-CHAT that we’ve been waiting for!?
Can you sneak in a universal screenshot capture for use with a keyboard or maybe designate a special key on the keypad. I know screenshot capture was added a few firmwares ago, but only to games that support it. If it were system wide it would be very useful.
My feedback for facebook would be for now until hopefully we would have a full integration soon, is that under our photos in the XMB would be an option to share with places such as facebook or twitter. With a multi select boxes as a plus, right now the one at a time from the browser is difficult. Also improvements to the photos section should include save rotations. When uploading to facebook it uploads by the files orienattion and not how its rotated in XMB. Hopefully the browser is now fixed so that you can click next page when viewing friends pictures on myspace. Never understood why that never worked??
looks good, but some real facebook integration, like a full app (being able to see what friends do, add friends, check inbox, reply to posts, etc) would have been nicer than just posting quick updates.
cross game chat would have also been nice, but one step at a time i guess.
Those little icons with get on our card when we get a trophy. Where can we see all of that ??? It’s seems like when we get new ones it just overlap our old ones .

Where is cross game voice chat? And you shoudl deffenetly consider just sticking to one type of mic instead of having 3rd parties develop it aswell. This was every one has a mic .

what would be cool , is if in the update , we be a be able to play music while on a game , or maybe save games onto the ps3 so we don’t have to use a disk, maybe sky hd , asking alot but would be very good :) but what ever the xbox can do the ps3 can beat it that little better :D
Oh one more thing I forgot would be an auto resize for sending pictures through pSn messages. even with the added 3mb limit, its still not enough when you’re using a D-SLR and your pics are each over 4mb
