Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.
This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.
Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

i dont use any of those sites but its nice to see you guys listen and implement new things along the way.
i do think its a good idea to have 3 options for updating tho.
manually as it is now
daily so people dont flood their facebook with 1 by 1 trophy info
and constant so it auto update your facebook per trophy for those that want that.
also i nice addition would be to give the option to always allow it to update your facebook page instead of always having to give the permission.
on the friends list i do think its nice to see it being updated with colors but i would like to have more translucent colors and the option to overide my friends chosen color to a default color i select so i dont get a rainbow effect from all my friends
I don’t use Facebook personally so this won’t be much use to me.
However, I do store all of my photos on my PS3 HDD and hence any update to the interface for browsing/displaying photos is very welcome indeed!
Hope it comes with Xgame chat, Skype and a workable browser… FAR more important than a face book. C’mon, thats basics.
Well, I guess this confirms why Sony removed the public access to users’ trophies – blocking sites like raptr.com and giantbomb.com from using them to make cross-platform achievement/trophy tracking into a nice social thing.
I, for one, hope this is reinstated at some point. Sony are not an island that can do everything its own way, and trying to be so only makes me want a 360.
In every other respect I love my PS3 and the games I play on it – including many bought on PSN as well as retail.

Kudos to the friends list as well! Although I think it can still have slight cosmetic improvements, possibly show the latest trophy on the list.

New somin was going to be done to those grey boxes, was kinda hopin for skins though, such as a MGS4 skin or something.
Any word on whether we’ll get an in house capture facility for universal gameplay, i know its possible with custom firmware, so must be possible to do with the high level programmers at Sony…

I don’t need facebook, twitter, etc.. in my PS3.
What I want is a much better web browser (WebKit or Firefox) with full-page zoom that doesn’t pixelate the fonts.

I know the chances of getting an answer is one in a million, because the good people of psblog are mostly answer to positive comments and no some much to questions, but I’m giving it a try.
How about the possibility to DELETE Trophies? I have installed demos that I’m not going to buy that installed trophies that I don’t care about. I’d like to keep my account clean, but I can’t. Any plans on allowing this? I’d really like my trophies to be representative of games that I actually played.
Do I have to create a petition somewhere (on facebook, for exemple) to get an answer?
I would like to know how much a Software Engineer gets paid at Sony. Really because i cannot understand why Netflix was not incorporated the same way as Facebook onto the XMB. You guys are making Unix programming look ridiculous. Also it would nicer if i could simply sign into Facebook account first and simply turn on or off the gaming options, it seems that i might have to do this each time.

Here is an idea to add to face book, integrate Home as well so well all can actually text in Home and Facebook simultaneously. Will the PS3 support Adobe Flash 10.1 or even the latest Java. Security seems to be Sonys main concern and i am surprised you have not had done anything with Apple. You will eventually have to give up something.
Please please make the browser more stable while surfing on Javascript enabled webs

Facebook is a waste of time. Because it’s not enough for people spend hours and hours on the computer, now you have the option to quite playing and use facebook instead.
Please Sony, bring more creative thing that matters to players, not that type of junk.

Cool but when are we getting that party chat that the naughtydog dev was talking about ? It would be nice for Uncharted 2 and COD 2
Instead of adding “me too” features of questionable value, how about a firmware update that actually adds multiple account simultaneous sign in, so if I play a game with my wife, we can both get trophies?!? Now that would be a proper way to emulate the competition!
Nice one Sony as i’m well pleased with how you have done the friends list because me and most of my buddies on the ps3 hated how it looks now,plus i’m looking forward to the new facebook edition,way to go SONY ;-)

I thought they have that with LittleBigPlanet. My wife and I play that together and she earns all the stickers, costumes, and trophies that I would when playing under her PSN ID.

Please look into Skpye for the PS3, and if possible include video chat. It would be my most used feature. It fits nicely also under the “It only does everything” ads.

I’m sure this will be out tonight. Many times after these posts it’s either that night very late or the next day.
I love the new photo layout. I quite liked the grey boxes as they allowed me to view what everyone was playing at once, and even with MW2 what map etc they’re playing. (though it hasn’t been confirmed this has been taken away so I’m sure you’ve kept that in). I assumed you’re making devs implement this invite system to all new games (as infinity ward wouldn’t be savvy enough to think about adding it for themselves). I’m also impressed that the eu blog actually replies.

Hello and great job Sony. Keep these features and tweaks coming. The Facebook integration is really cool can’t wait to use it. Very nice grid design on the photo album.
I’d love to see premium/dynamic themes being bundled with premium avatars exclusive to only that theme. Also would like to see the the bar on the friend list become enveloped with design for premium avatars so it’s not just the little portrait box that is showing style/design.
the new update looks cool. i might annoy my facebook friends with my mad gaming skills. jk. but instead of x game chat y not incorporate skype into the ps3. i love skype and wish i had more friends that used it. im sure you guys have already thought of something like this and making a deal with skype might cost a bunch o’ cash, but it’s just a thought. great looking new firmware tho
good job with the updates i’m liking the new friends and picture layout the facebook incorpration is nice but the fact we have to confirm everytime sorta defeats the purpose of enabling it yeah i understand some people won’t want to update their facebook account every 5 seconds with a new accomplishment that’s what twitter is for like the way U2 implemented into its game… the skype seems like a great idea and the in game voice chat would also be a great addition looking forward to this update and the more to come…

Nice FB integration. Please don’t add twitter…..twitter is the devil :P. However if you want to work with playfire.com on features…that would be NEAT!!

@VixDiesel you and me both. I will never sign up for facebook. Personally I think its retarded. Its another fad and by next summer no one will use it anymore because just like MYspace its a gimmicky fad that draws in people for a short time until they realize its trash.
Knock off the gimmicks and start giving your customers what they are asking for instead of trying to draw in 15 year old girls with Facebook. Please and thanks. Have people been screaming for Facebook since the ps3 launched? NO IT WAS CROSS GAME CHAT the ability to play music ingame and support for more audio and video formats. Also this completely retarded file system (Fat32) that is outdated like in the DAMN 80’s what is the purpose of having an external HDD hooked up when you can’t put anything on it due to Fats size constraints. Get with the damn times. Use NTFS or find something else that is compatible with files over 4gbs. You make my HDD completely useless for anything other then tv eps. If you are going to listen to the community then the community is no longer gonna be here for you guys to listen to. I know you are pushing me away, the longer this crap goes on the closer I am to buying the competitions product.

Very nice, wouldn’t mind a more integrated solution for Facebook, but since your system actually bothers to HAVE a web browser, as long as it’s smooth, I’ll be cool with this. Also, nice move on changing up the friends list. I didn’t mind the boxes, but seeing them all at the same time, all in that ugly silver color was the problem, which you have promptly solved, so thanks for that.

It’s cool that you can change colour of your profile on the friends list, but it’s not enough!!! You should be able to buy on ps store some backrounds (I’d love Uncharted one) to decorate your profile. That would be awesome and very profitable :)

Im amazed at how you are now taking in fan-feedback. Please do this more, and you will shape a Console that is truly awesome.
Although Im not asking for this, this is a REALLY big feature wanted by the community – Cross Game “Voice” Chat, aka XGC.
Also, I would love to have the Image Viewer to be implemented into all other category’s. Like Music, Video, and most of all, Trophies. Instead of the current linear version. Also Category’s to Separate Trophies by “Achieved/Un-achieved” and maybe things like “Gold/Silver/Bronze” on Demand by pressing Triangle.
This would increase the usability of the Trophy System by far.
Like I said above, I hope you take fan-feedback into account like you have been doing.
P.S. Where is the Netflix?
Great but the XMB is still a little too big for my liking. Are the features in the video the only features in the update?
ya guys in game party chat is not lost in the update. They stated at the end of the video that there is more coming in it as well. because the could not show evrything that is had because they where runing out of time recording the video. so ya do not get your hopes down it still can be there.

Facebook intergration- Not everyone has facebook and the functionality on the PS3 is actually useless. You can’t access facebook, all you’re doing is putting more stuff on your wall. Score 3/5
Photos- It looked like something you just kinda threw in to make the list of stuff in 3.10 look greater. I mean it’s not bad but I thought that was what the photo abulm was for? Score 2/5
Friends List- THABK YOU SONY! Great move on the colors. Only input I’ll have is to make their be designs on the colors. Score 4/5

Cool I might actually get a Facebook now. And @ Nauto you can access Twitter on PS3 just not a feed. Plus prior to this, I saw a rumor with photos about this so I guess it came true im just surprised it came so quick.
If the team responsible for the development, improvement and maintenance of XMB was located in the U.S.(SCEA) or Europe(SCEE), instead of Japan (SCEJ), I bet we would have had Cross Game Chat a LONG TIME AGO.

i am pretty sure you can fix that issue by going to your PS3 “Music Settings” and “Sound Settings” and change it to 44.1kz
