Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.
This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.
Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

Don’t take this personally, but why Facebook is that important? If it is then add twitter also as it is another important social feature.
Personally, I’m not excited about this update at all. Regardless, great job for the dev team.

Can you at least say “thank you” to Sony for them fixing that freaking ugly friend list? When FW3.00 was released, almost EVERYBODY started complaining about the ugly friend list. And now that they are fixing it, you don’t say thanks?

– XMB IM services [AIM, MSN, Yahoo messenger, possibly allow PSEye to be used as a webcam in these services on the Ps3]
– Better/upgraded web browser [Possibly something with Firefox :D Maybe allow in-game internet browsing?]
– Touching up on the Music part of XMB along with in-game music available for all games, not just a few.
– New Avatars
– Skype and Internet radio like PSP
– Support for PS2 games via emulation again [along with titles available for purchase through PS Store]
– A certain game allowed you to go into XMB, under Photo and take a screencap, possibly do something like this for all games and allow for both Screen capping and recording?
– Ability to deactivate systems from Account Management, being able to choose by PS3 system-name.
– Two different PSN users signed in on one console
– Modify the ticker in the upper-right of the screen. [Choose digital clock or analog etc.]
Then the PS3 and PSN would be at perfection.
Will this fix trophy sync?
I can’t upload trophies for a week now and now i’d like to adress the matter of what’s happening. It gets stuck on 40% and i know of more users that can’t sync their trophies.
Please fix this, i got a platinum trophy i’m dying to sync.
Would be really nice with a feature to differentiate which trophies to share on facebook, e.g. a threshold slider to only share silver and above or maybe only gold and platinium or platinium only. So you don’t spam your friends on facebook with all the bronze trophies you get regularly, but only share the ones that are worth bragging about. ;-)
Alternatively you should be able to choose trophy by trophy under the individual game’s trophy list which trophies you want to share automatically when you accomplish them. Ofc a select all and select none option should be available.
Just some ideas to improve its functionality. :-)

– why is that so hard to make cross-game-chat working?
– Does the sony techs took their degree from a website in some weekend they had nothing else to do?
– Why is that so hard to make XMB hide when in idle?
– why is that so hard to integrate a music player that allows you to put it on in background?
– Why is that so hard to display information about what you are hearing/watching like it did with what your playing?

hi… i may be late but just wanna share something.
as much as like the integration of Facebook, i thought we would be able to chat/update our status easily. you know PS3 browser is still centuries old though i use it everyday.
it was disappointing to know that it was only for Trophy/Games bought related. but yes.. it should work brilliantly if i need to irritate my non-gamer friends/families.
and one more suggestion, for the Video and Music player, can we have a short-cut for increasing the volume using the UP and DOWN arrow keys on the D-PAD? right now, it’s freaking cumbersome to increase/decrease the volume.

Better disabled it on mine, don’t want the GF knowing exactly how much time I spend on my PS3 :)
How about multiple network connection profiles? even the Wii and DS does this but not the PS3. Fed up of re-doing them everytime I take my PS3 to the GFs at weekends.

hey,this all sounds good and all that but cross game chat???
Now if only the XMB wouldn’t look so boring that would be a big plus. Also update the DivX codec finally in the PS3.. it’s getting kind of old by now.. Version wise that is.
Just a thought, try to say thank you sony for implementing stuff, u guys are here talking with what a small 500 kiddie gamers? there are million of gamers out there and im pretty sure more then half will be pleased with the fact that they can send updates to facebook, and the new photo features.
What some people here are asking is to much, Be patient im pretty sure a lot of people at sony are doing multiple things, research and stuff at the same time, but dont forget while you think implenting one thing is easy, they still have to work in conjunction with the rest of the ps3 software.
I am very happy with the effort sony is doing do maintain a healthy console, and very it is still better then the crapbox. Sure some things can be tweaked and changed, but whining over it will NOT help.

we all know sony is trying to keep us looking happy. and we all know they are working at cross game chat which people say is the only feature that keeps people saying XBL>PSN. Yea i want cross game chat bad we all do! it would boost the sales even more and im sure they are working hard at it. but i really do think it will come on the 1st major update of 2010. but until then i like the colored profiles im using that blood red. but don’t stop there sony! make it so u can see your friend’s current lv right beside their name instead of having to click on them! and the ability to compare more that 1 friend’s trophies like the official website can!
or even better the new feature on how the photo arrangement looks make the friend’s list section like that 2!!!
Everything sounds good for this update except for the border colour changing for friend list, i just wish the borders are never there at all…
let’s just hope that this firmware update isn’t followed by people claiming that it bricked that units…

But PSN users are bored of having to use the same limited range of avatar icons that have been around since the PS3 launched 3 years ago.
What about integrating our HOME avatars onto our PSN ID?!

I have to agree, Sony is this going to be a forced update???? If so Id prefer you to not release it and save it till a next major update! I dont use facebook and dont care about changing the colour of my skin!,, SO please dont make it a forced one

I’m not a facebook user, but its cool they have these facebook features for people who complain about having these things. I am glad that we can change the default gray, in the friends list, it did suck…Thx, Looks Good!
I don’t know if it could be possible, but I’d like to see games that I’ve played (even if they’re really old without trophies) on my trophy list.
I mean, Thropy List is a sort of Gamer Curriculum, and it could be nice to see, for example, “Folklore” Without the % bar.
What do you think about it?
I’d like to have Theme management tools (or at least the option to sort by alphabetical order)…

Hopefully there will be an automatic video source identifier soon.. Sucks to always reset the videosource by pressing power for at least 10 secs. when changing from hdmi to composite.

What a rubbish update… :(
Have no real interest in filling facebook with uninteresting and unpersonal trophy and store purchase info messages that would only mean that I have to go through another yes/no check-box every time I do something on the PS3. And can only imagine how annoying that box would be if it popped up mid game.
The friends list colour change is equally useless, suspect by the end of it’s going to look like a mess once everyone has chosen their own colour. Would much rather be able to set the colour for everyone on my PS3 to what I want. The only real improvement is the changes to the photo thumbnail viewing.
Dang it I was hoping Netflix would be added, I mean the no disc version. That’s the only thing holding me back from confirming my membership. Please make it happen, oh yeah. When is music going to be allowed in game? Don’t give me BS about it’s the game dev.

In regards to the Facebook stuff. That’s it? I thought it was actually going to, you know, integrate Facebook. You’re telling me that I still have to use the crappy PS3 browser to view Facebook? I know you said that you’ve made improvements to the browser, which made it kinda comical when you brought up the browser, and it still didn’t load Facebook correctly (ie. application icons weren’t showing correctly, etc.)

Am a little dissapointed by this update, I dont care much for facebook cause I dont want to share every little thing I do when I game. As for the color of the psn account is a nice addition cause I dont like that dead gray color. Also where is cross gaming chat, seriously is it that hard? let me know so that I stop complaining about that.
Facebook is great. Twitter would be cool too.
Having an “App Store” would also be great, the ability to have support for Apps for other social networking, blogging, and communications sites would be amazing.
Turn the PS3 into more of a Social Networking device like the Mylo was, allow more freely developing for the device.
But PSP has Skype. PS3 has a Webcam. Why can’t we have Skype on the PS3 as well?
One more thing before I get off my soap box. How come we can’t install the Netflix to Disc instead of having to keep the disc in ALL the time.

PS – there’s a bug in the latest Firmware – The status message fonts blur and move when ever someones status updates, especially in newer games like MW2.
OH NO .. NOW MY FRIENDS LIST WILL BE LIKE A RAINBOW .. I HOPE FROM YOU TO CHANGE THE GAMERCARD, AND CHANGE THE FRIENDS LIST DESIGN FOR EXAMPLE IT WILL BE AWESOME IF YOU PUT THE LAST 5 TROPHIES UNDER THE NAME AND THE LEVEL ..
