adhocParty for PSP Available Soon

188 0

Hi everyone! Great news for all of you Ad Hoc fans out there –adhocParty for the PSP system, which first launched in Japan last year, is coming to North America! AdhocParty is an online service that allows PSP owners with a PS3 system to connect to one another via the PlayStation Network. It will be available as a free download on the PlayStation Store soon.

So, how does adhocParty work? PSP titles with adhoc mode traditionally require you to play within close proximity to each other. AdhocParty takes advantage of the interoperable capabilities of the PSP and PS3 systems. It enables you to play games featuring Ad Hoc mode, such as Gran Turismo and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, over the Internet through the PS3. Your PSP connects to the PS3 via Wi-Fi, allowing you to chat online with fellow gamers in North America before jumping into competition from the comforts of each of your respective living rooms.

In addition to all of its competitive and social gaming features, adhocParty for PSP supports voice chat through the Wireless Headset or PlayStation Eye, offering you a complete and immersive gaming experience only available on the PlayStation platform.

  • “…allowing you to chat online with fellow gamers in North America…”

Does this mean NA adhoc Party will have a separate server from the existing JP server?

  • Bloody hell; finally! I thought this would happen soon as the PSP Go launched. Great news anyway; there are games I refused to buy until this happened. Now, let the games begin!!

  • Wow, this was definitely unexpected.

That is a great addition to the PS3/PSP connectivity.

    Thanks for adding this!

  • Finally, sweetness, at least one part of Sony is doing something right….

  • This sounds pretty sweet.

  • Wow…I didn’t even know about this. But it sounds like it’s going to make gaming on my PSP an infinite times more fun, since I have absolutely NO local friends who own a PSP.

  • Wow that’s really awesome!
So my understanding is any game can work with it? It doesn’t need to be patched in?
    So tekken 5 will work?

  • This is awesome! Now I can know what half the people are playing!

  • Online Darkstalkers and Pangya?! I’m in.

  • wow.. i cannot thank sony enough! this is a dream come true :)

    THANKS SO MUCH

I hope this comes out by next weeks store update

  • Very awesome, Sony! Thank you very much!

  • Awesome! I’ve been waiting for this to come to America for a long time. Couple of questions: First, is this going to be free (it sounds like it might be) and second, are the same games that are supported in Japan (Burnout Legends and Grand Theft Auto Vice City stories are the games I’m most interested in) going to be supported in America as well?

  • Wouldn’t it just be easier if games developed online gaming for PSP via infrastructure mode?

  • Does soon mean like when I can get the GPS device in NA???

  • Or does soon mean like when NA gets the USB camera for the PSP slims etc??? Users have been waiting for these hardware devices for more than a year, so soon = years???

  • From what I have read the people who will mostly benefit from adhocparty most are people who have strictly Wired Routers or just a Modem.

What this FREE program will do is turn your PS3 into a Wireless Bridge or sort of a Wireless Router which the PSP can connect through so you can play games online with people all over the country instead of just your local friends.

Now as for compatibility with older games I am unsure about weather this is a game on game basis or completly backwards compatible.

    @SpeedRacer1955

When it comes to the GPS device I don’t know when or if that is ever coming to NA but I do know that the USB camera was cancelled quite awhile back due to Sony saying that the camera they were going to bring out was such a low mega pixel camera that even cell phone cameras had better quality and they weren’t going to bother to bring it out to NA.

  • Great news. Too bad I have a 20Gb PS3. I wish they would come out with a wifi adapter that could plug into the usb ports or maybe enable via firmware the ability to use usb wifi adapters on the PS3.

  • Time to dust off Monster Hunter Freedom: Unite.

  • Great news, I was just thinking about download the Japan version, or buying a wifi max tool to play on xlink kai.

just one question; can me and my brother be connected to the same ps3 to play online? or can only one psp be connected at a time?

  • this is great….now I can play GT psp with more people. Hopefully I will be able to share and trade cars that way too. alot of psp games have adhoc support that would be great to play with others around the world. Will this be a download item under new release?

  • wow can’t wait to play gran turismo! thanks a lot!

  • My brother and I cant wait to take advantage of this !!!

  • YES. Time for some mh online finally… once I get that ps3 :(

  • That is awesome!!! =)

  • This is great news, I thought it was never coming! I just hope that UK and US gamers can play together.

  • I’m very happy to hear this news. :D I really hope I can play Fate/Unlimited Codes this way.

  • 2 questions
    1: Canada?
2: can I send messages to my freinds on ps3 using my psp
    Plz say yes

  • SA———–WEET!!!!!!!
    Cant wait
    SOO AWESOME
    :)

  • Pretty cool. I wasn’t expecting this to release here. Now, let’s talk about that PSP camera and GPS…

  • Awesome thanks Sony. No offense but its about time. The differences in regions drive me crazy with PSN. There are things in both the Euro, and the Asian PSN that I would happily download and use, there are also games I would happily buy, but Sony keeps them region locked. Tell me this Sony, if you have a copy of a game already translated into english, and its available in english on the Hong Kong PSN store, why in the world would you not take advantage and put it up on other PSN regions??? Its ok, you guys are the ones losing money because I/we can’t but them…

  • i dont even know this but NICE for PSP owners

  • Wow this sounds really good!

  • Sweet… I wanted this as soon as i known and used the Japan Version of this.. because gussing what was what to play with friends on Grand Trismo PSP was hard.. this will simplfy it ALLOT and add allot of more game play and more Moeny in a sence to bring PSP to a new Level with PSP and PS3 Owners alike :D

    Great Job Sony :D

  • Yes! Finally! Everyone fire up Gran Turismo (PSP)!

  • Where did this come out from? It’s nice that they’re bringing over here for us. Wasn’t it only available in Japan?

  • Sounding REALLY good!

  • why do gamers ask stupid questions… the man clearly stated it support wi fi and wired ps3 to psp connection.. supports head set and eye cam voice chat feature.. where did he say wireless eye cam?? i dont think he did… dont be so dumb to the point.. The more we get the better , please dont down talk good things shesh

  • So I guess this means to expect a finished piece of software to get released in 2-3 months in the west?

  • Awesome news! It took so freaking long I figured you weren’t going to be bringing this to the US. Glad I was wrong.

Still like with everything else you took WAYYYY too long.

  • Thank you Sony!!! This is great news. I have been waiting for this. I downloaded the jp version months ago but could never use it because there was barley anyone speaking Englsih and no instructions, it was all symbols and Japanese writing. This will be great for Monster Hunter,Phatasy star portable, socom, dissidia, wipeout, etc.. I can’t wait!!!!!!!

  • This is unexpected and very much appreciated!!!

  • You have to have a direct connection (lan) to use Ad-hoc party on the ps3 like this.

    pc—-ps3 then Ps3(wireless Ad-Hoc)Psp

you cant use a wireless conection at the same time as adhoc connection.

Ad-hoc party also supports voice chat via bluetooth headset and rooms 2-8 players.this works on any game that supports adhoc play.
my favorites are Monster Hunter series, Killzone liberation (we can now play co-op online),Loco Roco midnight carnival, Phantasy Star Portable (hope its released for the psp go soon aswell as the 2nd PSO portable)

  • AMAZING I LOVE U SONY!!!

  • I CANNOT FLOGGIN’ WAIT!! I’ve been using the Japanese program to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite online and it’s an impressive program. I’m very pleased with the overall thought that obviously went into it. I’m also looking forward to the advancements they will undoubtedly make over time on this app.

Keep up the GREAT work, Sony.

  • Like most people said already…About time! This should of came out with the new Monster Hunter. It would of sold better if it did.

  • Details soon? Won’t be expecting it next week then, but this is very welcome!

  • sounds cool

  • whoever thought of this deserves a raise this is like truly epic
