hey Eric,
thanks for the new update, unfortunately i was one of the ones who suffered from my games freezing and uncharted was not the only one hopefully i can finish it before uncharted 2 comes out…
also my dual shock was kinda idle, hopefully all this is fixed…
One small detail that made ps3 look cool was the logo that loaded before any game…hopelly this will be included in the next firmware update.
And as for the friend list i hope it goes back to the way it was on firmware update 2.80.
Hopefully in due time all these problems will be solved.
Anyway thanks Eric L. and SONY…
hi everybody
i downloaded this update but when i download demos from playstation store and after installing them i can’t find them and i can’t open thim
reply plz
henry press square when on game categorie
I hope you also look into the “logitech harmony adaptor for ps3 not work on slim”-issue too. This start to be kinda annoying. :)
Yes finally, great update!!!
@336 steelguin – “To 326 maybe it was a [DELETED] update for you because you can still play your ps3. Mine is dead.”
Ok first off, sorry about your PS3. I know how it must feel. My PS3 stop reading discs and I wasn’t able to fix it February 1st 09 til July 30th. It’s been back since August 12th.
Second of all, I wasn’t talking to you or people like you who had their PS3’s stopped working from a FW update(despite the fact I may find it weird).
I was directly speaking to people complaining about the aesthetics changes like themes, friends list.
Sony is working as hard as they can to get these issues fixed and none of them have the decency to understand these updates take time. They’re not robots who can work 24/7 and get it done like in 3 days, these are human beings who can only work for so long and needs rest. Some people are just ungrateful and they never be pleased with anything. People knit pick over ridiculous [DELETED].
Sony needs to get sued by customers associations worldwide if it keeps charging for repairing consoles that die due to updates that customers are forced to install and aren’t properly tested for delivery.
Really, this is getting crazy.
We customers paid a lot of money for our PS3s and owners of the “fat” ones like me paid even more than new slim owners.
There should be no major bugs locking, freezing and turning fully functioning consoles into defective or dead products in any new firmware that Sony releases.
But major issues are getting out of control now since 3.00 firmware release, that simply means that Sony managers must act quickly and fire employees that can’t do their job properly, product quality is falling down like never before.. if the PS2 ever had so many defects then Sony would have gone bankrupt many years ago.
This is getting silly.
The most awful thing for Sony is to charge customers for their own faults. You guys there at Sony must listen to your own customers unless you want your group to go bankrupt.
Do you have any understanding of what you are really doing? You are killing, completely destroying the image that Sony built thru the years, and you are killing the Playstation3 as a product that was considered to be the best available one compared to competitors offers. But if you keep killing customers products and then asking them for money to repair your own mess then you only deserve to get fired because that is just insane, do you want to destroy Sony SCEA forever or what?
Do you care for your customers? Do you care for Sony as a group?
Because so far it really doesn’t seem so.
You keep charging customers for fixing your bugs.
You keep not adding features requested by customers and you add silly childish and useless marketing driven things that most customers just hate–and that’s bad marketing at work.
You didn’t even enable the HD audio bitstream on HDMI for all your main “fat” PS3 customers base just to force everyone buying the new cheaper built PS3 slim claiming that the old one wasn’t HDMI 1.3 compliant which is a pathetic lie.
Come on, what the heck are you doing?
Get your act together and get back to delivering quality and stop destroying the very good image that Sony had.
You really did a mess so far. Many managers and many employees should get fired to reorganize Sony as a group.
You can censor my messages if you wish but that will happen soon or later, when a strong big Company/Corporation division keeps doing big mistakes and upsets its customers then sooner than later there will be a brutal re-organization and many will get fired. It happend to larger groups than yours like Intel (Prescott,Tejas sloppy work anyone?) .. don’t think that it can’t and it won’t happen there at Sony as well…
An no, I don’t work for any competitors, I dislike Microsoft products and even worse customers support but right now Sony has more issues to solve with the Playstation3 than its competitors.
I read this blog first, as I always do before updates, and held off.
I have both the PS3 “classic” and slim, and both run fine on 3.0, true I haven’t tested Uncharted on it yet, but I’m not playing it at the moment so it doesn’t bother me.
Perhaps in future, people with affected consoles will check the feedback on here first before hastily updating their system.
This isn’t a dig at the dev team, like i said before operating systems can have millions of lines of code, and it only takes one out of palce to mess it up, so I think all you playa haterz should back down.
If you think you can do a better or faster job at patches then why don’t you give it a shot.
Half of you people on here have no idea how hardware and software work and interact with eachother, so instead of giving al the big one and pretending like you have a clue, shut the hell up and let these people get on with their jobs.
Dazease.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me the fustration isn’t so much that the update was apparently so buggy (although thats part of it) its more the fact that now I can’t play any BD at all and Sony service center are claiming it must be a hardware issue and that I have to pay for an out of warrenty replacement.
During my last conversation I was told outright that a firmware update couldn’t possibly have caused any such problem with my PS3 and that it must be a faulty and unrepairable drive or motherboard.
They couldn’t comment when I raised the issue of other people having the same or very similar problems and did in fact, when I called them the first time yesterday, tell me they’d never even come across this problem before.
If it wasn’t for so many poeople reporting the same or similar issues I would have just shrugged it off as a coincidence and paid up, but now I’m not so sure.
With my luck I’ll pay for a refurbished model and then after the next update all the PS3s with similar problems will start working.
zerowing_us
Did you really need to send in six messages that pretty much said the same thing? Do you really expect Sony to take you seriously when you spam the Blog in this manner? If there is a problem with the firmware, Sony will look into it and fix it. They’ve done so in the past, and they’ll do so again. It would be bad for business if they didn’t. You’re not helping anyone by acting this way.
zerowing_us
Looking over the last couple of pages, I see that you’ve posted a lot more than just six messages. They’re all pretty much the same rant. Those comments only needed to be posted once. You are nothing more than a spammer and an annoyance, and you should be ignored.
Yes, I had to post my long letter in a complete form, since it got trimmed down in previous posts.
I just told the truth, and you know it. I suspect many of you here attacking customers complaining about the awful customer service that Sony SCEA offers to PS3 customers actually are either affiliated with or employees of Sony.. and if that is the case be warned that insulting customers that are already getting really upset about this whole silly and absurd situation is going to do worse than good, never ever insult your customers–that is the main basic business rule that nowadays too many Company/Corporation employees completely forgot to follow.
So I have an 80GB BC I bought a year and a half ago with serial number ending in “E01.” I ran the update last night and loaded Batman. Played for two or three minutes and got to an autosavea dn froze in the autosave. I hope this was just the first update aimed at the Playstation Store problems. Please tell me there is another on the way for the freezing games. Otherwise, I can assure there is a class action lawsuit on the way.
@Dazease: What are you talking about? Your statements are so silly.
So when your car is defective and you even risk to get killed by that you can’t complain with the manufacturer because you can’t design a car and an engine and you can’t build it yourself?
What a pathetic excuse. Do you work at Sony SCEA, perhaps? Or are you just a customers that loves to waste money without complaining about issues that the manufacturer has to pay for and wants to oblige you to pay instead and even feel sorry for their own faults, uh?
I am a programmer and video coding/architect, I know how things work and how complex it can be BUT that means nothing. If a product suffers from major issues like the updates Sony SCEA is releasing to customers then it’s the team at fault, not the customer! Customers do not need to nor have to know anything about how difficult designing and programming can be, any business must provide a fully functioning product otherwise there is a serious issue that customers associations worldwide will need to take care of…
[DELETED] my last comment didnt work my internet screwed up and it was a long message oh well time to remember it and type it again!…
ok im having issues with watching blu-rays through my ps3 hooked up to my sony standard definition TV (its really old and i got it for free off a friend and its dieing:( sad face) and my ps3 just playes the movie in black and white, i have researched it and many other people are suffering the same problem and no reliable solution, so i would like it if u could look into that issue please because i am extremely poor (i got my ps3 for $400 for xmas by trading in my old ps2 and 6 games) and i will not be able to get a HDTV or any HD screen for atleast an entire year so i would apreciate it if u could fix it, PS: i didnt have this problem untill like firmware update 2.8 or something like that?
k first off i agree with what most people have said above on this page but my problem is my games work for ten mins then freez with a black screen and movies and cds work just fine for me my only problem is playing games and everything was fine with me with 2.80 and since 3.0 no games have worked longer then 10 to 15 mins they need to fix me i have no coverage left ive hard my ps3 going on 2 years this xmas FIX ME PLS
I Shall be calling sony today !!!
ill be calling sony tday
well add me to the list, didn’t realize one of the new update features would be to not play games or BD. And then be told that i would have to pay for their mistake, and what a time i just went out and picked up dirt 2 and nhl 10…..weak.
It didn’t fix the Uncharted issues.
What was the point of this blog site? Wasn’t it to interact with the Community? Seems like just another way to advertise.
There is no open dialogue on the real issues here.
Why does Sony refuse to comment on the YLOD issue that is becomming almost epidemic with the 60GB launch consoles?
Why is Sony so quite on the Slim having handshake issues with various HDTVs out there?
Why is Sony not accepting responsibility for the fact that FW upgrade 3.0 is causing problems, and their update fix, isn’t solving them?
This is supposed to be about communicating with the community? Then do it, and stop blowing PR smoke up our arsses. Answer the questions that are really troubling a great many people out here.
I am going to keep trying my games no matter how much of a headache it is. I realize that it took a few days after the updates for the problems to happen. Maybe it will take a while for the update’s effects to kick in. Or maybe this isn’t something an update can fix. I am kind of worried that the update made changes that over-stressed some parts of the hardware and put things out of spec or damaged them. I hope that is not the case.
I’m still experiencing the same issues with BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM constantly freezing.
After reformatting the drive entirely (and before installing 3.01), I was actually able to play through 20% of the game with only occasional freezes, but now the game has auto-saved itself in a spot where the game freezes every time within 30 seconds, if it loads at all. It’s very frustrating…
I am very disappointed with Sony, releasing the 3.00 firmware without checking the possible side effects it will have on a minority (by the looks of it, a significant minority) of PS3 units. I have a 40gb model (I’ve never, EVER, had a problem with it before), and after the update I cannot run any PS3 games without ALL of them crashing after 5-10 minutes of playing them. Downloaded games work fine though, along with DVD data discs.
I was going to brush this off with the good old blu-ray drive failure Sony Support keep telling me about, but looking at how so many other users are going through the same (or even more severe) consequences of updating to 3.00 firmware it seems that the firmware itself has been the catalyst to all these problems. I’ve had my PS3 for over 2 years now so warranty is out of the question, however I refuse to pay for something I had no control over (i.e. I wasn’t the cause of my bricked PS3)
P.S just updated to 3.01, didn’t fix my problem. Sony, please sort something out! Will write an official complaint if this isn’t sorted out soon.
I was playing Uncharted today and it still froze up. I also downloaded the new v3.01 update yesterday.
The only problem that I’ve noticed since the 3.0 FW update is that a few games I downloaded off the PSN store failed to load just a blank black screen ( same problem other have had ) I did a hard reset and it seemed to correct the problem. But I also haven’t played any BD games since the update. All I can say is that the MAG beta starts tomorrow and I hope this doesn’t affect it.
@zerowing_us
We all know that you don’t have any trophies…
http://profiles.us.playstation.com/playstation/psn/profiles/zerowing_us
and probably don’t own a ps3… If you’re looking for trouble you are pathetic, get a life and find a new job/hobby (whichever of these is your reason for being on the blog).
Hey, hey, hey! Finally, it’s working! I have downloaded the firmware 3.01 last night and played Uncharted with my finger crossed. It worked perfectly fine without any freezing issue what so ever. Thanks, man! In the future, please take a moment to review and test your upcoming firmware before release to the PS3 lovers so that you can still be trusted and reliable. Just my thought.
It sounds like many people are still having issues with 3.01… If only Sony would listen.
PS3 System Software needs to address these bugs and add NEW FEATURES like 360 gets. The PS3 is supposed to be a powerful system but its lacking in many features other than a Bluray player. Hell the web browser even worse horribly slow.
I agree with spamspider @ #430.
I too have a 40GB which worked flawlessly until the 3.00 update. After the update game disks were not recognized.
The 3.01 DID NOT FIX the problem.
There is no way this many physical drive malfunctions coincided with the release of the 3.00 firmware update unless there was an intent to kill them and the necessary drivers for older drives were taken out or malicious code was put in to render them non-functional. That may be far-fetched but it is starting to seem that way since there has been no response on this particular issue and Sony support is trying to sell Blu-ray drives rather than telling people it is a software problem.
At first I thought Sony simply didn’t test the software properly. Now I am beginning to think they did test it and it is doing exactly what they wanted it to do. Kill BR drives so they can sell replacements.
I would like to know how many people have bought a new BR drive from Sony to replace one that would still work if the software had not killed it.
Get it together Sony and provide some info. This is starting to stink.
@430-Spamspider — Yeah i know what u mean im in the same boat as u im from canada ont and i called today and told me my problem and they turned around and are sending me a box to ship back to em but i have to pay 197.something and witch i belive is fawking crazy ass bullsh&t and i dont aprove of this kinda stuff ive been a sony fan since ps1 and us users have to pay such a high price for something that is caused by there mistakes this is an outrage any one else have this issuse with em ^^^????
yes @436 DVelazquez i totaly agree with u on all of this SONY PULL UP
i 2 have a 40gb that worked fine with all the updates untill 3.0
The option to “disable what’s new” is something I’m going to have to try out…
people with the problems we should all get togther sue playstaion if they dont fix us i know myself i dont have 200$ to pay to get it fixed due to the fact that ive had my ps3 for 2 years
and ive put in about 500 dollars into games for the damn thing and 2 other controllers :S im pist
my controller is still [DELETED] up. it doesn’t respond all the time. WTF, i need to swap it
because 3.01 doesn’t FIX ANYTHING
ROLLBACK TO 2.80 NOW!
Eric I h4te you!
@48
You could always disable the what’s new feature. Was in the options from the jump.
I have owned my PS3 for about 6 weeks now. It’s the 80GB non-BC one. I did like the older XMB more, but the new one is growing on me. The 3.00 update did make the system freeze every so often (Uncharted, HV Bowling, browser) and one time the video output needed to be re-set. Since I have downloaded 3.01 the problems seem to have gone away. I hope it continues to function correctly.
Sorry to hear about all the problems some of you guys are having. That sucks!
I gotta say though, that I’m happy with my PS3.
@N_8_: I don’t play online games 24/7 as you do, I use the Playstation3 as a video/audio player mainly, as a Blu-Ray player most of the time and I play games sometimes. Anyway I have more than an account, not just this one I use.
So what? I am a paying customer of a PS3 40GB unit that is quite upset with all the issues that Sony SCEA firmware updates are causing due to all the serious major critical bugs forced on us customers.
after update 3.01 my ps3 controller doesn’t work !!!!
connected it via usb made a reset of the controller & nothing
this update sucks !!! i’m waiting for 3.02 soon
Part 1 of 3 (because it’s long)
Before I begin, I will say that I own a new, 120 GB slim model of the PS3. I got it a few days before update 3.00 came out.
That being the case, I have had no problems as far as things not working. Though it must be said that I do have Uncharted. I do have Batman and I had nothing wrong with it (I saw some people were), nor have I had any problems with any other games (LBP and FEAR 2).
I know that between the launch of the system and now, that new models have come out and new hardware is in there; granted not different enough to change the overall package. That being the case, I don’t see how someone could not think that there would be software issues with hardware. When the hardware is different for everyone, it should be expected. Yes, it sucks that things may have stopped working for you, and yes you have the right to complain and voice them. But don’t forget that everything is different and things are going to mesh well 100% across the board.
Part 2 of 3
I also come from a programming background, I understand the amount of time and energy it takes to make something, test it with limited capabilities, and get it out to people. They bring out 3.00 and then realize that is screws up some games, okay, they bring out a fix to it in two weeks. In the software world, that’s pretty fast. They were able to be notified of the problem, find the problem area, correct it, and ship it all back out; in two weeks. For that I commend them. Also, the fact that it took two weeks to pretty much fix one game should be a big enough indication on how hard and long it takes to fix something. Two weeks for a minor bug. Bigger ones are going to take MORE time.
The people complaining that there should have been more in the update, obviously don’t know how updates work. It’s 3.01, not 3.1. The fact that it’s going up by a hundredth and not by a tenth is because it’s a minor update to really only fix something small. It’s the same as 3.0.1. Had it been 3.1, then yes I would expect more.
