I just want to be able to play Uncharted again. I just bought the game this week and now it won’t even play for more than 5 minutes without freezing up and crashing on me. I feel like I just wasted 30 bucks.
And to all the people that say stop complaining, I just paid 300 bucks for a system that can’t play video games your damn right I’m pissed.
I am not one of the people that just bought a PS3, so I am grateful for the free updates and such, but I am pissed that i now have a 300 dollar paper-weight sitting in my room.

I’m sure fanbois like yourself are used to taking it hard from Sony. First time owners like me however actually expect a Game console to play games….

In the meantime, enjoy the money you’ll save by leaving your PS3 powered off.
In the System Settings menu, there’s an option to turn the “What’s New” ON or OFF and it doesn’t work. It’s ALWAYS ON. And the message board in the upper righthand corner should also have the option to be turned off.
The screen sometimes freezes when I view my messages; I can’t go back using the circle button. Picture quality has diminished in DVD playback and yes, the gray bars in the FRIENDS list are an eyesore. Now these aren’t complaints. They’re constuctive criticisim.
There is nothing to relax here. Customers associations should sue Sony and Sony board of managers and CEO should fire all the employees, technicians and managers involved in this pathetic silly management of the Playstation/SCEA division.
The marketeers at Sony are killing the image of the Corporation, they are destroying product quality and making a fool of customers along with a general sloppy work by all employees like never before.
If bugs like this and nonsense lack of features (the HDMI bitstream HD audio transfer that with silly lies is not given to current customers just trying to force everyone to trash their consoles and buy a new cheaper lower quality PS3 Slim) ever happened at the times of Playstation1 and Playstation2 then Sony would have gone bankrupt many years ago.
This current management of Sony SCEA division must be fired, they can’t do their job properly and customers can only hope that the managers board and CEO at Sony know the situation and are going to act to save their Corporation image and regain respect from customers that are losing faith and trust.

You guys are right, uncharted doesn’t work that well.
Expect some news or an update tomorrow and you didn’t pay for updates but for the system itself futhermore if your an early adapter then I understand but for everyone else whining its just sad. My system works fine and I have the 60GB version and when you turn off whats new in the settings it means it won’t startup on boot if there was an misunderstanding.
4 the people who bought a new ps3 slim return it 2 the store u bought it from or get ur money back or exchange it and wait 4 the new firmware

I have a 60Gb Ps3 I bought pretty much when they first came out and never had a problem with it. Shortly after downloading the v3.00 (within a couple of hours),the system froze up while trying to get into a multiplayer game of the DIRT 2 demo. The controller LEDs started flashing, the green power light went to yellow, then went flashing red. I tried to fire it up again but it goes through the same shut down sequence over and over.
Does this have anything to do with the update, or is it due to the age of the machine? And, what can I do to fix it?

Does this mean also that other people are having troubles with not seeing the disc icon for a game that is inside your system? I have the PS 3 slim and just now noticed since the update I can’t even play NCAA Football 2010.
Tiger, yes i am having troubles not seeing the disc icon when there i insert a disc. No disc can be read. This occured after i updated the FW. All my psn downloaded games and vids work. Just not any disc based media. I am pissed. I take care of my ps3.
If I knew it wouldn’t be a waste of time to try I would return my PS3 to the store. It isn’t what I purchased… It now looks like a piece of cheap advertising crap!

Today my PS3 “reminded” me that there was a system update available. –> That [DELETED] me off! <-- I really like my PS3. Sony - not so much. I feel bad for anyone who defiled their PS3 and is experiencing troubles and disgust. I recommend that future updates be investigated before they are downloaded and applied. It only takes a couple of days to get adequate feedback from these forums to know whether a particular update is good or bad. To those **CHILDREN** that think we just [DELETED] and complain - when users can't play the most expensive console on the market because of a crappy firmware update, this sort of response and more is perfectly justified. I don’t know if you guys at sony are still reading these, but my problems are with my ps3 freezing up when I quit a game. I have been playing batman A.A., and shatter, and I have had this problem several, but not every time.
For the time being can you please put a downgrader back to v2.80 until you fully fix the bugs and glitches with the new update. Please and thank you.
I fail to see why some insist on criticising people for complaining.
There are clearly major issues with the firmware that are having a detrimental effect on users. It is unacceptable for Sony to release such a poorly tested and rushed update and people have every right to have their voice heard.
Individuals who state that people have no right to comment because the update was free are forgetting the premium we have all paid to become PS3 owners.
That said, those asking for resignations and directing criticism at specific individuals are going one step too far. Whilst I am also very disappointed, any comments that I make are directed to Sony as an entity, as all should be.
for all the people saying we need to stop complaining, f off and go do something else. we are all here trying to voice our concerns with the $300 gaming system we just bought that won’t let us play video games. since firmware 3.0 cod4 keeps saying i don’t have an internet connection in the middle of games when my wireless connection or internet connection has not failed. now it won’t get past the “loading settings…” screen when trying to get into a game. this is the second ps3 i own (a slim) because right after i downloaded the 3.0 firmware on my 60gb it got the ylod… coincidence? i have played the ps3 way longer before the 3.0 firmware with no heat issues and now this summer i’ve had the ps3 in practically air conditioned room with excellent venting and after only 15 mintues of playing after 3.0 firmware it crashes. please sony, i’ve paid you plenty of money to play my video games that i am not able to play. doesn’t sound like much of this makes sense does it… fix this asap
There’s really no reason to complain about the xmb. ITS FREE. Sony has done a tremendous job on everything that they supply for ps3.
If they allow us to toggle what they want all of us to see as improvements, then maybe sony should charge a monthly fee right? NOT!!!!
Be grateful guys that they are providing us with a FREE service and not charging 50 bucks a year like Microsoft’s Crapbox 360.
XBL is a great interface but if a system is malfunctioning 54% of the time, what’s the use. Especially paying for the online service on a mth, qtrly, or yearly basis.

Customers have the right to complain. Updates are forced on customers anyway, otherwise connection to PSN it’s not possible without the last firmware installed.
Anyway if the console stops functioning correctly then Sony is at fault. They can’t kill the product they sold to customers, if the product becomes defective due to an update it’s Sony that has to pay to fix it. Or so it should be if justice worked. What is for sure is that customers associations worldwide should look into the case and start helping customers that got their system defective due to updates.
And anyway even if a customer doesn’t find any bug and the product still works after the update he/she has full right to complain about either missing or wrong features.
Sony should listen to customers instead of trying to make a fool of them and negating features with silly lies like that of the audio HD on HDMI port that is possible only in PCM uncompressed and not bitstream compressed with “fat” Playstation3 models just to force people into buying a new PS3 Slim.
Coming from playing WoW and XBL I can see it from Sony’s POV. It’s all about money. They don’t charge a monthly/annual fee for PSN so therefore they are forced to test it on the general public.
“v3.0 beta” they should be calling this. You get what you pay for in this world sadly. Personally I wouldn’t mind paying up for a product that actually worked on release.
As it stands I have a PS3 slim, Uncharted and a very bad taste in my mouth. And Sony probably feel as though they have the right to leave us in the dark since we aren’t paying for PSN/FW updates…
Word on the street is that the update is coming today. I sure hope that’s true, because as it is, I’m unable to get through even three minutes of ARKHAM ASYLUM without the system freezing on me. I’d already ordered a replacement copy from Amazon before learning the problem wasn’t disc-related…
I’m having similar problems. Uncharted worked for about an hour and then froze, and now it doesn’t work for more than a few seconds of gameplay.
I also had the problem with exiting Arkham Asylum that some others have mentioned. The XMB didn’t reappear and the screen just went black.
I’ve also had problems with my internet connection dropping.
The cosmetic issues don’t really bother me – why do people care so much about grey boxes? And the font size is just right on my screen.
Thankfully, there is no ticker in the UK version yet. That is one thing I would not appreciate.

I think that it’s important that people state on this forum the specific issues that they are having with games, or accessing online services that may have been affected by the firmware update. Without people detailing the issues they are having the developers will just be left guessing at the issues we have. Specific games, circumstances will give them pointers of where to fix issues.
As for the – i don’t like the look of this, i used to like this arguments, I think they need to be logged somewhere – maybe a poll to see what people think of the new changes, but clouding an issue like fixing the firmware with all these personal opinions is not helping. Yeah there are somethings that i don’t like about the look of the new XMB, but i’ll live with them. However, the fact that i’ve been playing Force Unleashed and trophies I know I should have got aren’t being triggered, or the fact that I bought Wolfenstein last week and can’t get online at all are far more important.
Lets help Sony identify the problems, and get them fixed, then you can go back to adding things you’d like under the list that starts with in game voice chat !
The only thing I’ve experienced was a freeze playing Infamous. I’ve played plenty of Resistance 2 and even picked up a copy of Uncharted, watched some Blu-Ray, and used PlayOn over the past week. It’s been fine for me. I was a bit worried about Uncharted but it’s worked flawlessly and has been a good time.
Hi everybody, here is my contribution. French owner of a 40Gb “Fat” PS3.
– I had some freeze using the browser when viewing a gameplay video for a coming game.
– I have experienced some no image displayed from the PS3 at launch (HDMI connected). I had to unplug it from AC to have the problem fixed as I restarted 3 times with no success.
– When I watch a bluray the screensaver makes the system freeze. So I had to deactivate the screensaver option.
I don’t bother with the ergonomic/graphical issues … as mentioned above let’s start with the most important.
Thank you for fixing these and Sony congratulations for the Slim it seems to sell very well through around the world. I wish a part will be applied in R&D for new terrific FW with at least some of the functionalities most of us expect :-)

It is completely irresponsible to acknowledge a flawed product and still force it apon your entire customer base.
Sony. If you are going to insist on promoting yourself as an online service you might try alpha/beta testing your product first instead of dumping it on the masses and slapping bandaids on the problems. Charge a fee for PSN if you have to. Better to have people [DELETED] and moan about a small cost than have them spread bad blood about your shoddy tech work. And for the love of all things good in the world FIX UNCHARTED

Go to game data utility under the games icon. Delete the Uncharted entry. This has unfrozen my progress in the game. It will nag you every few minutes to update to new patch. I just hit cancel.
I do not like the 3.0 update for various reasons, but there are 3 reasons I can not tolerate at all, in order from what needs to be fixed most urgently first:
1) After a couple seconds, all the choices in each column in the XMB disappear except for the currently highlighted item! When I am trying to decide which video I want to watch, which game I want to play, etc. I want to see all of the files in a list the way it was before FW 3.0. Please at least add an option to stop all the items in a list from disappearing, fading away, or becoming dim.
2) Get rid of the ugly gray boxes around everyone in my friends list. It looked perfect before. I like being able to see what everyone is playing at a glance, but the gray boxes ruined the whole thing in 3.0.
3) Add a way to disable the news ticker. I am using a modestly sized SD TV and it is eating up a big chunk of my screen! Plus it is annoying and distracting. You could disable the old orange info bar, so I am puzzled why they removed this option for the new news ticker.

It’s good to know that they are working on the issue. Although I know that many users including the one’s who have the new slim model 120 gb are having the same problem. I hope that the update will be out soon because I can’t play past the same spot on Uncharted that came with the 160 gb model.
Sony should just start charging for their online services, I have both xbox 360 and ps3. Paying 50 bucks for a year subscription is not bad, if sony just charged than problems like this would be avoided. xbox 360 may crap out a lot but their online services are way better than sony’s are, you pay for what you get.
I downloaded the 3.00 update on tuesday then the very next day while downloading the FUEL demo I get the YLOD. And I don’t think this is an isolated case lots of PS3 owners are losing their PS3 after updating to 3.00. I think sony should do something about this. I paid $400 for mine and have barely had it for a year and half. I feel like sony has let me down I’ve had my ps2 since 2003 and it still works just fine.
