  • I was kind of looking forward to the new update. Now I just want my old update back.

  • guys stfu with the the moaning and whining i like the changes and sony shouldnt change it just cuz of a few ppl if it was all like that then u shouldnt have upgraded in the first place.

  • I would just like to reiterate how much fail this update has.

  • How do I disable all the changes made by 3.0??

Please..all I see is advertisements and large text EVERYWHERE

  • yeaaaaaaaah…. wheres the downgrade button? I hated this update, I miss the playstation 3 logo that appears when a game is launched and I miss the intro sequence with the Sony Computer entertainment and why is the font sooooooooooooooooo big! This is crap! Please revert the chages please..

  • That new logo starting up is absolutely atrocious. There should be an option to use the old logo on start up to match my ps3 I purchased when the system was originally released. Dont throw a [DELETED] logo down my [DELETED] throat.

Please get rid of the gray bars in the friends list as that looks absolutely atrocious as well. What the hell is wrong with your design team? Was it designed by programmers or actual designers?… Get your act together SONY.

  • WTF!?? I can’t access to the XMB while playing music, the friend list looks terrible and the XMB became too ugly, I really liked the old one, please bring back the old friend list and make possible to access to the XMB while playing music

  • This update is TERRIBLE.

Sony needs to fire everyone who worked on 3.0 and put together an entirely new team.

Instead of improving the XMB/PSN, they ruined it!

  • Re: Lack of BBC iPlayer

The Official English Forums were suggesting power-cycling the PS3 console, but I just found that the “TV” XrossMediaBar option ‘appeared’ after I used “VidZone”.

The “iPlayer” option is just a link to a browser page. I was expecting a dedicated application.

Maybe there will be some integration with the “PlayTV” product in the future. (Well, if I buy one I may find out!)

    BFN,

  • The store is now waaaaay too intrusive. Two thirds of the ‘what is new’ section are adverts – plain and simple. When I go to start a game at start up I have to go past the store icon in the game menu, they’ve actually added a click to starting a game. I understand that PSN is free to users and Sony pays for it largely via. the store so it is important. However, I’m now less inclined to visit the store because it has become an annoyance. If you want to give users real choice why not allow them to set what menu they want to start in? I’m sure most people would opt. for either the friends menu or the game one – not the network menu. Sony tell us this was designed with user feedback – how many users said they want adverts on start up or the store menu in pretty much every option?

Guys, I’m a big fan of Sony but this upgrade is pretty poor and unlike almost all the others I can’t find a single thing that improves my gaming experience. I’m going to set my PS3 to start the game in the disc drive now because I really don’t want to look at the XMB.

    shoddy.

  • If you guys want to increase traffic to the PS Store release content spread over 5-7 days like MS does instead of just releasing one big update a week. By spreading the releases you do two things:
    1. Increase Traffic

    2. Brings more attention to the smaller, less attention getting items.

As things are right now I visit the PSN Store one time, on Thursday evenings that’s it. Its business common sense, more traffic means more exposure, more sales.

  • the only thing that i liked was when you clicked on your inbox the back ground faded a litle bit

  • Like:
    – The speed increase in menu navigation

    Dislike:
    – Friends list boxes
    – The loss of the start game jingle (that was class)
    – General increased ad-ness. I’m already buying software, no need to bludgeon me over the head with it.

  • You made the XMB ugly!? WTF!?

    Friends list is ruined again.
Why no option to change font size?
    and
    GET RID OF THE TICKER!

  • This is what SacredDragon said:
I appreciate the new features in this firmware update, but I do have a few suggestions:

    1) PLEASE let us change the startup screen back to the original!!!

    2) Give us the option to make the text size smaller.

    3) Let us disable the info feed in the upper right hand corner.

    4) Start the XMB back on the game icon, and add back the “PS3″ screen that showed up when starting games.

    5) Change the Friends List back to its original appearance. The new “silver box” look is a bit too distracting.

In a future firmware update, I’d really like to see you guys redesign the internet browser to make it easier to use.

I agree with everything he said but I would like to add:

The PS Store should be either taken away from the Games and Videos tabs or else it should be our decision to have them there or not! It was soooo easy to find it under the PSN tab before why add it to the other tabs and just add even more clutter? The reason the XMB won an Emmy is because it was clutter free and easy to use! V3.0 is taking a step back from being clutter free and easy to use in my opinion!

  • please listen to the feedback and make the changes straight away lol I got my friend to buy the ps3 slim and were about to go get it but im kinda embarrassed to show him the new XMB : / GAAAAAAAAAAAY!

  • Wow, everyone wants change in what they have now and suddenly when it happens all of you want to revert back to how it was. Pretty funny to me.

I think the update is excellent, just add a font size option and you’ve nailed it Sony.

  • i want a way to revert back to the old look i.e. smaller font and no status indicator.

    fixitfixitfixitfixitfixit.

  • OMG Sony this could not be really 3.0. Please bring back the PS2 team. As a soon to be college graduate in computing i must say 3.0 is awful. I cannot believe you pay people to create such interface nonsense. what a waste of space and a lack of creativity.kudos to xbox for their interface. I still love you guys but seriously i hope there are surprises beneath 3.0 that out weighs the GUI nonsense.

  • Thanks for all you’re hard work in making an already great product better. I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth 5 times over ;)

  • Hi just wanted to say great job with the update but there is a few things that kinda suck:

    1. Friends list looks like balls.
    2. Please give me an option to turn off the annoying ticker.
    3. PS Store logo in each column is annoying
    4. Make the notifications replace the ticker instead of covering the whole ticker thing. Like make the ticker say ‘new message from -blank’
    5. Delete ‘Whats New’
    6. Give me an option to delete trophy sets. Cause i rent games and i have too many games with trophy sets with like 0% and crap like that.

Other than that, its all cool. The new startup screen looks great, and the LBP theme is awesome. AND MORE AVATARS PLEASE!!!

  • Okay, everyone who thinks that this firmware update has destroyed their PS experience…Seriously? Most of it is purely asthetic and can quite easily be fixed in a small firmware update. Here are some ideas:

    – I for one wouldn’t mind switching the grey bars in the friends list with the blurred, opaque glass look and adding the number of trophies and trophy level right beside the avatar would be nice. (and add the option to hide/show the bars)

-I found no problems with the font (you can change it in the theme section).

-I think that making the sparkles in the background a little more subtle would be nice and would help to keep it simple.

-Add a setting that will allow us to disable/enable the PS store icon in the video section for us Canadians.(I don’t mind the on in Games but there should be the option aswell)

Other than that I enjoy the new look and feel, and have experienced little problems as of yet.

  • wow … friends-list is ugly and the massive text is ugly, i’m hoping there will be a firmware update allowing you to revert back to the old look. please Sony wtf is with this forced ugliness, who the heck sanctioned the friends-list changes, its atrocious to look at!

  • oh, and remove that playstation store icon from music, video and pictures at the very least. games, ok maybe. but the rest make no sense. particularly when I can only download trailers.

  • i have a xbox 360 we need CROSS GAME CHAT don’t make me turn on my sh**box 360 200 days with out playing xbox 360

  • Seriously, library music during game play would be sweet, and the PS3 reading an ipod would be fantastic. The two combined would make my day.

  • Everything looks nice except for that sloppy friends list.

  • if it were my job to make changes to the xmb and i did this, there is a strong possibility i would have been fired.

  • The ability to lock or protect movies and tv show from being deleted would be nice. My sister thinking that she was deleting videos from my psp to make room for some cartoons made the mistake of deleting my intire video library on my ps3.

  • Yea, as many comments have already pointed out, there are a few things that are bothersome about this update:

    1)Grey Boxes in Friend’s list
    2)Starting on What’s New
3)Information Bar is now part of the status, and unremovable
    4)Playstation Store icons everywhere.

Now, of these complaints, three are marketing tools meant to promote PS3 content. That’s fine. However, I read RSS feeds, and am far, far more up to date than the Information Bar or What’s New section.

The inevitable 3.05 or 3.10 patch that NEEDS to come following this backlash, needs to give the option to disable:

    1)Grey Backgrounds on Friends List
2)PS Store icons in every category
3)Starting on “What’s New” Instead of on the disc currently inserted (this one is a big annoyance)
4)At least give an option to hide info ticker after all “new” information has been displayed. As it is, I’ve heard about “PS Classics” 3 dozen times, and the update isn’t even 3 hours old.

  • Yeah, even more ways for Sony to milk the dead horse that is LBP, and nickle & dime us for silly little addons.

    3.0 ruins XMB, it’s a complete mess.

  • You have to quit playback of music if you want to enter the XMB now? wtf, that is crap. I mostly use the ps3 for music and chatting, now its one or the other, what a waste!

  • I hate the fact that you guys removed the XMB accessing function when playing music and also the text is too big and the friends list is ugly as hell

  • Ah, sorry for the double comment, but I forgot: What the heck happened the the signature chime when you started a game. I really liked knowing it was smoothly in progress, and now it’s just kind of alarming how long it now feels to take as the system begins the game with no prompt. Plus, it made my PS3 and PSP feel similar in that respect. So much for that.

  • Enough with the bombardment of advertisement. Why do we need a playstation store icon where our games and such are listed. We already have one under our account management. Take that out and get rid of it, no need to have 2 of them. We already bought our playstations, if we wish to check out new items or whatnot we know where to go….

  • Sony isn’t going to listen to these comments anyway. I for one am not updating my ps3 until it is absolutely mandatory for a game or until a new patch fixes the issues I’ve read about.

  • I hope the next upgrade is a nice and big downgrade. we want the intro and game start tunes back !

  • just got home from work and now i’m downloading 3.0 on my slim ps3

  • After a couple hours of tinkering:

The performance is definitely better, and it’s pretty apparent that 3.0, “under the hood,” is a better firmware build.

However, the new font is just bad. Honestly, the font used to scale fine for 480 and 720 displays, but I am running 1080 on a decent-sized screen–it’s like browsing the large-print books in the library. And, when I send a message, the on-screen keyboard text is still the original size. The lack of consistency is jarring, and I would just prefer the old font back.

  • MOST EPIC FAILURE IN A SYSTEM UPDATE TO DATE…YOU THINK I WILL PAY FOR A DYNAMIC THEME THAT BLURS OUT WHEN YOU DO ANYTHING…..I THINK NOT!

  • Part 2:

As a whole, the ticker, What’s New, and ubiquitous PSN store links really are too obtrusive. I realize Sony is in the business of making money, but now navigating my XMB feels eerily like negotiating a time-share pitch retreat. Please just back off a little.

The friends list is fugly and buggy/glitchy. And, why do I have an envelope icon up near the clock even though I have no new messages? That should be changed to conform to the conventional wisdom found on every other communication device in the world.

On the whole, I think the criticism is not so much about this feature or that feature, but the overall sense that the new firmware was not tested by gamers. I just get feeling that many of the changes were directives from the suits upstairs which saw little to no review process. The result: the overall look at feel of the XMB seems less sophisticated and more contrived, and that’s a bummer.

  • Please let us use the old smaller text, the new text is UGLY as is the new friends list. Other than that everything else looks good.

  • playing my music …and…browsing …loved

  • And when a song finishes, it doesnt skip to the next track, playback stops and goes back to the XMB!!!

  • Lower the size of the font a bit and I hope for animated avatars :)

  • Seriously, get rid of those boxes on the friends list, they look awful and run horribly/look glitchy during in game XMB.

  • I still can’t sign into PSN!! WTF mang!? I guess I’ll never know how frakked the friends list looks. Thanks Sony.
