Fallout 3 Downloadable Content on PSN

Hello PlayStation fans. I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios, here to give everyone an update on when Fallout 3 DLC will be available via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Anchorage PS3

We’re excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected. Our DLC expands on the original game tremendously — each DLC offering 4-6 hours of additional content — and is no trivial undertaking. Here’s a brief look at the DLC you’ll be able to play.

  • Operation: Anchorage (pictured above) – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.
  • The Pitt (pictured below) – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.
  • Broken Steel (pictured below) – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game’s level cap to 30.
  • Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
  • Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Fallout 3 Broken Steel PS3 Fallout 3 - Pitt PS3

What can you expect from our DLC?

  • More Fallout 3 Goodness – More weapons, more creatures, more armor and outfits, more characters to interact with, and more loot. You’ll find all of these within the unique new locations of Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.
  • DLC Trophies – Did I mention we’re supporting trophies in each DLC? This was a big priority for us and one of the reasons for the extra time needed. In the end, we think it’s worth the effort to bring trophies to the DLC.
  • Support for existing characters and saves – Once you’ve downloaded and installed the DLC, the content is accessible at anytime (once you leave Vault 101). You can play the DLC whenever you want — with one exception (see Broken Steel below).

So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the Main Quest, the level cap will already be raised and higher level characters will begin encountering some of the new enemies in the Capital Wasteland. For the release of Broken Steel and the other DLCs, we’ll release a new update for the game.

After Broken Steel, we’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt shortly thereafter, probably at the same time – just to get them out to you as soon as we can. After that we’ll have Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta available as soon as we can, so that the wait between DLC is as short as possible. Once we release Broken Steel, we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.

We hope you enjoy Fallout 3’s DLC. Thank you for your patience. They’ll be here before you know it.

  • i think im gunna wait for the GOTY edition with all the DLC on disc :)

  • Any word on a game of the year edition?

  • Microsoft’s money ran out then did it? ¬_¬

  • took you long enough, LAZY DEVS!!!

    all hail Naughty GODS(Dog).

  • Great decision to offer Broken Steel first! Can’t wait for it.

  • By the time I finish up Fallout3 this DLC should have a bundle sale. Thats when I’ll buy it

  • whaaaat, i already got fallout 3 long time ago because well it had DLC and PS3 didn’t. I don’t like xbox much and i wanted it for PS3 but well. I never bought the DLC for fallout on xbox anyways lol

  • Good to hear you guys are hard at work on it.
Am very excited for these packs :)

Will the end of September release be true of Europeans too? Or will there be a post on the EU blog for us?

  • Too late! Saving money for other cool games

  • Thanks Bethesda! At least you are bringing the DLC to the PS3. And good decision to release Broken Steel first.

  • well all I can say is IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!!

  • No thanks! Got rid of the game already. Stop doing those dumb timed exclusives with Microsoft next time and I’ll buy. Offering these expansions so long after the game releases is a dumb marketing decision.

  • Although it is awesome that you guys are bringing it over to the PS3, I feel royally [DELETED] in the [DELETED].

Why so late? Why not at the same time as the PC and 360?

PS3 is my choice of system to play on, but because you guys did not support it beyond the game, and kept tight lipped about anything else, I got it for the 360. Why is the 360 version much more stable then the PS3 version? Is this something you are also fixing on the PS3 version or is this a money grab?

I’m hoping you will answer these questions being I have spent full money on the PS3 version, 360 version and all the DLC with it. Be nice to know why PS3 versions got the screw job early on.

  • why do you guys support stupid devs like bethesda? over a million copies sold.

and you overlook games by naughty dog, insomniac, sucker punch, guerrilla. their games should be over 5 million by now. yet you ignore them for the bug ridden fallout 3?

  • @4
Why do people who have no idea how the business works makes such crazy comments. Nothing lazy at all.
    Thanks for the post Ash.

  • I just got all the DLC last Friday. From what I’ve played it’s pretty fantastic. Glad to see this is finally coming out for the PS3. Can’t wait for Mothership Zeta!

  • How much is the DLC going to cost? Are we going to get a discount because we had to wait longer?

  • Great game, good DLC.
Will double-dip with the GotY Edition.

    Bethesda FTW

  • I’m glad to hear this but I will be waiting for the GotY Edition before I even pick up Fallout 3. I just hope it doesnt have all the issues of the DLC on PC and the 360…

  • so will the DLC fix all these Bugs that are in the games by patching?

  • Wow after all this time Fallout 3 gets DLC, you know there’s another favorite game of mine that needs DLC and a patch. You know what that game is? Socom Confrontation.

    I welcome this DLC….

  • Well… Better late than never? As I hear it, the DLC is buggy as hell. Hopefully we’ll see a Ninja Gaiden Effect here and be rewarded for the wait with superior values.

  • Sucks that it’s taking so long. At the very least, Broken Steel is out first. That’s the one I wanted the most. So, I guess I’ll finish my evil game, pick up the trophies and start new game doing neutral by the time BS comes out.

Alot of people might be pissed off by the news, but I’m just glad I’ll get to play the new DLCs at some point. Exclusive DLC is something I could live without.

  • devs devs devs ,WHen will you learn. That treating one console like a red headed step child and the other as your fav,YOU LOSE FANS! ..If you want to make yourself stand out as a company stop makeing side deals for timed exclusivity,,,gamers are what truely pays your paychecks ,,not game companies (although i’ve heard they help a bit)….!!!!!SHOW US SUPPORT AND WE SHOW YOU SUPPORT WAKE THE HELL UP ALREADY !!!!!!!!!!!stop the fanboy wars ..long live gaming!

  • you guys are asses, and have some of the worst back assed support for the ps3………. period.

  • By the way, Bethesda, I just want you to know that while the reception you are receiving here MIGHT seem harsh, you may want to stop by if Square Enix ever works up the guts to stop in here.

  • Is the GOTY still targeted for Oct?

  • awesome. was gonna get it on 360 for broken steel so i could play it after the end, but its loads cheaper on ps3 and now has the dlc too.

  • No thanks. I do not like being lied too. You guys lied about the DLC not coming to the PS3 and made several of my friends bought the game for the Xbox 360 because of the DLC when they wanted to purchase it on the PS3. I [DELETED] hate developers like you that cannot be honest with their fans (PS3 fans) and then turning on them by saying that the PS3 community do not buy DLC in your interview with IGN.com. I also read in that interview that these DLC might will support trophies but yet the xbox 360 version support achievements? Now you are using trophies in the DLC as a selling point for the people that still have this game?

When will you guys ever start treating the PS3 community as equal to the xbox 360 and PC community? Last time I check we still played $65.01 for your games when the quality (freezes, frame drop, bugs, lots of pop-up) is less when compare to the xbox 360. Until you start treating the PS3 community, I will be purchasing all your games used so you do not get anything for it. Do not blame me, blame your self for [DELETED] the PS3 owners that purchase this game.

  • Wow. This feedback seems somewhat harsh. It’s more Sony’s fault than Microsoft for not thinking that us PS3 owners really care about DLC. Microsoft realised the potential of DLC (F3 + GTA4) therefore they spent millions in securing the deals and Sony sat around thinking of excuses to NOT lower the price.

  • Glad it’s finally coming, but I’m afraid you missed your window with many of us.

  • I’m also thinking of waiting for the GotY edition just to have it all on disc.

Question, though, is Bethesda making sure to test that non-GotY edition saves are compliant with GotY edition? I know in Oblivion there was an issue with not being able to use the old saves with the new edition.

  • You guys must be crazy! U r releasing a DLC near fall! Just 1 of them?!

  • I bought the survival edition and I am getting all the DLC!
VERY HAPPY on the Broken Steel release decision! Can’t wait!
    Thank you for the update!

  • Im gonna pass.

Unless maybe you own up to the fact that you guys took a fat cheque from microsoft and are now coming back to milk us

  • It would be nice if Bethesda would work on the bugs in the original game. The last patch was supposed to help fix a few things but made it worse. I avoid using VATS at all times because almost every time I use it my game freezes. My friend that has the game too has the same problem. My advice, fix whats wrong with the game then worry about DLC.

  • Finally! Atleast we get a update, and better yet BS is coming out first

  • Will the delay of this effect the release of the GotY Edition at all?

  • Oh and I forgo to add. These DLC better be half the price or something because the PS3 owners have to wait almost a year and still being charge full price? F@#@ that.
Bethesda Softworks I been a fan of yours since Oblivion on the original xbox, but now, I hate you guys for the way you treat your consumers. I hate you as much as I hate Capcom, and I hate Capcom a lot

  • I’m really glad that Bethesda is finally getting around to support the PS3, and is throwing us a bone (albeit a pretty small one) by releasing Broken Steel first. I hope that in future, patches and DLC will be released simultaneously on each platform, cos you didn’t win yourselves any fans by releasing (then) exclusive DLC

  • @30

Im glad that Sony doesn’t whore itself out like Microsoft. Its bad enough Bethesda already gave us the worst version of the game (which was awesome.. but still)

  • #4, Naughty Gods… I like the sound of that :P

  • This game was an impulse buy for me. It was good, but then I learned it could have been better. I found out (a little late) that the PS3 not only got the gimped version but was getting screwed out of the DLC (even thought we payid $60 for the disc just like the 360 version). Well I am glad you are bringing the DLC to the PS3, but I sold my copy after 1 month while I could still get good money for it.
Sorry, but I rather not support third party developers that have been treating the PS3 like their bastard step child.

  • Wow, a 3 month delay.

What a bunch of BS. This should’ve been on the PS3 day 1. But everybody’s got a price and you guys are no exception. Hope you spent your Micro$oft bonus money on something nice.

  • I’m Ashley Cheng, a producer at Bethesda Game Studios,I Love M$

  • I’ll buy the full game once all the DLC is released.

  • @30
at least we knew that R* got 50 million for gta4 and it did not have inferior quality on the ps3. these lazy [DELETED] devs released a buggy [DELETED] port on the ps3 and denied dlc for no reason. [DELETED] U bethesda.

  • finally some news about it…releasing broken steel first is a good news. can’t wait.

  • @30 craigdykeenie
Why should be blame Sony? Sony is using their money to give us Free online, HOME and support all 35+ of their first and second party developers. MS only have like 5 developers to support so they can spend more money on these time exclusive.
Bethesda Softworks is the only one to be blame here. They are the ones that accept the check from MS and gave the finger to the PS3 consumers that purchase their game. Now that the exclusive deal is over, they are trying to milk the living hell out of the PS3 community.

  • While I am annoyed it wasn’t on PS3 day and date with 360/PC, I’m just glad it’s finally coming.
