Last month I caught up with David Cage, CEO of Quantic Dream and writer/director of Heavy Rain, a game that many of you are very interested in. To a room full of press, David presented a new scene that introduced new characters, new gameplay, contextual additions and more…and what was shown was simply stunning. Following the preso, I asked David about Heavy Rain and its progress, and grilled him some of your very own questions.

The guy isn’t “splitting” hairs. Pressing L3 to move a character around is awkward and frustrating. Just moving the L-Stick is pleasing and standard.

Cannot wait for this game! I for one LOVE games with great stories, and those are far and few in between.
For everyone complaining about the whole QTE thing, you need to remember that there are different types of game experiences. This is just one of them. No one complains that Final Fantasy doesn’t control in real time…because its a different style of game. As for the length, 10 hours is fine. Look how awesome the God of War games were and they weren’t all that long. Plus we’ll probably want to go back through the game multiple times and fail at different parts just so we can see how the story would differ. This game could easily be double or triple the length when that’s considered.
Anyway, point being that if you don’t like QTEs, don’t buy the game. I don’t like RTSs but you don’t see me posting my dislike of the controls on the Command and Conquer site.
Anyway, I saw on another site that the game isn’t coming until next year. That sucks! I want it now! =)

No, not “splitting hairs,” L3 is the button that clicks when you push the stick in! L-stick or Left Stick is the stick itself. If you say that you need to use L3, people are going to assume that you mean THE BUTTON, not the stick. L3 is a button! You are referring to the LEFT STICK. There’s no room for interpretation, here.
This game looks awesome. You guys have convinced me enough to buy this game when it comes out.
However I have a question.
Is it going to be PSN download or on Blu-ray disc?

I agree. I find it much easier to run and look around in Resistance 2 then in Killzone 2. It took some getting use to running in Killzone 2 and still feels uncomfortable when I have to run over and over.
This game is such a first day purchase!

my predictions:
this game will win best story, best adventure game.. and i’m sure it’ll deserve it.. but xbots will downplay it as an boring interactive movie.. also, will be released early 2010.. meta ave of 8.5

Men this game looks so good. GOW 3, MAG, Heavy Rain, GT5, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 5(Sony bet not allow them to make it Multiplat). Those games signify victory boys; read it, smell it, play it, then weep.

@65: Victory is owning the PS3 and getting these great exclusive games along with the great multiplat titles out there. Which one scores first or third is irrelevant to me as long as its profitable for them and myself.
umm… hate to disagree w/ the developer here but from what i’ve seen the graphics look worse than the first preview they showed w/ the Taxidermist which looked gorgeous.
I know graphics aren’t everything but that first preview was beautiful and I was hoping the actual game would be up to that standard. Hopefully they polish up the graphics cuz the preview doesn’t look that good.
This is why I love my ps3!
Games like this make me positive I chose the right system.

Agree completely.
After playing Indigo Prophecy so many times, I would be silly not to get this. I really hope this sells well so more of these types of games can be made from them. I understand why he wouldn’t want to make another Indigo game but if he was to even remake the first one with the current tech…… O_O Matter a fact I’m off to beat Indigo Prophecy again! Later lol.

If one of my four characters die, do i have to continue on without him/her or could i go back to an older game save and play the scenario over again?
(i hope it doesent auto-save when a character dies.)

but this is the one game I am really excited to get my hands on. after playing indigo prophecy how could anyone not get excited. i wish indigo prophecy would be released on PSN, i no longer have a ps2 or a backward compatible ps3.. maybe indigo prophecy could be added to the Heavy Rain Blu Ray disc?

And this is the game that is going to separate the old school gamers from the twitch multiplayer only fanatics that just stated gaming last gen… Adventure genre rebirth this game is! I am loving every second I see of this. I can’t wait for this game. Variety is what makes a systems library great! And I am so glad to see that Sony is sticking to bring devs like this on board who push gaming and the system in new ways, while also reinventing old ways gone by. This is a day 1 purchase for me!

So, is this going to be four separate stories interconnected at the end? Or one larger story with four smaller “chapters”?
Will we have to play them in a certain order or will we have the freedom to play them in the order we feel like?
And R2? Really? Ugh. The Dualshock 3’s R2 button is so flimsy, I can’t stand it for racing games, it’s awful. Will we have the option to alter the controls?
cant wait for this game. loved indigo. after god of war 3 this is my most wanted game. i love when games have good stories and i love detective stories so this is lookin really good to me. now if one of the 4 main guys is a forensic investigator it will make this game perfect.lol
The control scheme in this game is going to take some getting used to.
As revealed on Gametrailers TV (the only thing good about that horrible website), that Heavy Rain will have Nudity and Sex in the game. The American version of Indigo Prophecy, it’s sex and nudity scenes were removed. Chris, do you know if the American version of Heavy Rain will be censored?
I’m really looking forward to the game. Its something entirely different and I like that about a game :-) Its not exclusive but any idea when we can expect the sequel of Mirror’s Edge?

I like that whole idea with characters dying is a part of the story! Heavy Rain’s looking pretty sweet…
People, plz understand one simple thing. Heavy Rain is NOT a modern Dragons Lair. There is QTE (Quick Time Events] but it is not what the game is about. You walk around whit your character just like in an adventure game. But David Cage and Quantic Dream is trying to do something more to that genre, that involves reality and emotions.
IF SONY and PR ppl read this, which I hope, PLZ do a better job at marketing this game. PPL still thinks this game is only a QTE game. Make a better presentation where you see that you control the character.
