Noby Noby Boy Meets Pac-Man

146 0

I have to say it’s kind of scary that the game has released. You may find it fun or you may be disappointed. I hope you enjoy it, and I’m ready for any of your comments.

Anyway, has anyone looked at the Pac-Man and Noby Noby Boy commemorative banner that released today on the PlayStation Store? Those who have already played the game may have seen it. This photo was taken on January 1st when I came in to work to fix bugs.

Noby Noby Boy meets Pac-Man

As you can easily imagine, there was no one in the office that day except for the security guards. I had a lot of fun freely taking pictures with Boy! I remember carrying him to the main entrance laughing and taking pictures of Boy wrapped around the Pac-Man statue. When I was planning on using this photo for the banner, I was told that Pac-Man stood out more and the picture made it look like it was a Pac-Man game. I just answered back saying, “Players may buy the game by mistaking it for a Pac-Man game! Wouldn’t it be nice?”

Anyway, I was very lucky to be a part of such a miraculous collaboration. I tried to have Boy in various poses to make for interesting pictures, even with a Daruma doll. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out well so I gave up.

Noby Noby Boy Daruma Doll

Daruma dolls are actually Japanese wish dolls. When your wish is fulfilled, you’re supposed to fill in the right eye, so we wished Noby Noby Boy would be released on the 19th. Speaking of the 19th, it was also the release date for Noby Noby Boy T-shirts. They were created by Panic Inc, the same vendor who did the Katamari ones. There will be four different designs with two variations for a total of eight types.

Noby Noby Boy T-Shirt

Above is one of the T-shirts. It’s an obvious Boy design, isn’t it? It would look cute on kids, but unfortunately there are no kid-sizes…maybe you could make a request to Panic Inc?

I didn’t talk anything about the game this time. Well, I’ll update sometime soon. Bye for now.

  • @50 Great idea and one I’ve asked about before.

    And in the meantime, no.

  • I can’t get enough of Noby Noby Boy. I’m still trying to figure it all out but I try to at least help GIRL a little every night to get her to the next planet.

  • What is wrong with you disc people? I understand transferability but we’re talking $5. Disc pressing and shipping cost more than that … the game would be $30 almost automatically.

  • Gumbydunzeeto…

No one is forcing you to buy DC…but you are forcing this whole community to read your cr@ P…please stop…or will u be the next FeaturePreacher and sell your PS3 for a lame reason.

  • “I’ll buy this game when it comes on a disc.”

Seems like a waste of money. It’s a small game. Are you ready to pay at least an extra $5 to $10 to get it on a disc?

  • @53 – $10 for a disc as opposed to $5 for a DLC?

    I’d happily pay that.

  • # 54 – What’s wrong with downloading small PSN games though? Is your hard drive tiny? Mine is 320GB so I don’t care about space. I’m fine with downloadable games if it means they’re cheaper.

  • And good luck playing them when your PS3 dies and/or the PS4 comes out.

  • I’ve had a blast playing NOBY NOBY BOY… I’ve got all the trophies and just waiting to see how long it takes to get to Mars….

One quick comment, it would be cool if there was a way to see everything you’ve eaten… kinda like there was in Katamari Damacy where you could see everything you’d rolled up. It might add some extra longevity to the game for those who want to eat everything!

  • I love your amount of enthusiasm for the game!

I love the game. It’s pure fun. Also, eating the instruction manual = GENIUS!

  • What do you mean? You can download your games if your hard drive dies. Download games are no problem. And the PS4 will probably let you do it too. I’m not against buying games on disc but games like this are fine as downloads. It’s not a 15GB game.

  • @56 then you download it on the next ps3 they send you. I’ve had to redownload my DLC once due to my blu-ray drive dying. I don’t see what your issue is. As to PS4, i think you’ve got about 6 years before you need to start worrying about that.

    In any case. I love Nobi Nobi Boy! Takahashi-sama <3 <3 <3

I look forward to whatever else you make, be it an expansion/sequel or something entirely new.

  • @56 yep, my ps3 died, I had downloaded games, guess what? I GOT THEM ALL BACK FREE OF CHARGE.

research a bit about your system why not? knowledge is power.

  • AH! Takahashi-san one more thing, will we be able to go to Pluto, even with it not being a planet and all? I know we’ve been to the moon and happily skipped over mercury and venus since it might have been too hot for BOY; i was just curious.
and speaking of the prince, i still hear katamari damacy.

  • let’s help Girl go aroud the universe!

  • @61 – So you know for sure, with actual tangible proof, that *all* of the DLC you buy for your PS3 will be accessible on the next Sony console? Care to share it with the rest of us?

  • Gumby – I don’t see why the PS3 DLC won’t be downloadable on the PS4. At least if the PS4 will play PS3 games. If it won’t then the topic doesn’t matter anyway. You seem way too worried about downloading games. You just go to the Playstation Store and you can see everything you’ve downloaded and you can re-download it. I’m sure the PS4 will have a hard drive too so you can always download it again or copy it over. I’m not worried about the PS4 though. That’s years away.

  • A disc is insurance that I can play something later that DLC is not.

  • @Gumbydunzeeto…..And how do you know the PS4 will play PS3 discs? or discs at all? Your logic is not even coherent.

  • @67 – Sorry, but that makes no sense. PS2 discs can’t be played on the newer PS3, but you can still play them on the PS2. Similarly, PS3 DLC games may not be able to be played on the PS4, but you’ll still be able to play them on the PS3. In fact, DLC is more reliable than a disc, because a disc can be scratched/broken and rendered useless, while DLC can be re-downloaded for free.

So what objections do you have against DLC?

  • Takahashi-san, I love your game! It’s very fun, and I like that you only get what you put into it, and it’s very rewarding for people who like to experiment. Very funny, too. I can’t wait to get a shirt from panic, I still have my Katamari shirt with the elephant (and the Prince) on it, and I love it!

Keep up the good work, and I can’t wait to get to Mars!

    Cheers,
    – Matthew

  • I was glad the game has no goals, Flower was traditional compared to this game.

  • @69

I have a 60 gb and my PS2 games work just fine on it. :P

DLC can’t be scratched or broken, but it can be corrupted and lost when a hard drive fails. Then your game is gone for good.

Then I have to replace the system AND the game.

There is *no* good reason for DLC.

  • @72 Wow with your comments. Guess what, you don’t get to play this game, because it isn’t coming out on disk.

And there are *many* good reasons for DLC.

  • @73 – No. There is not a *single* good reason for DLC.

And, yes, I don’t get to play the game because it’s not in an acceptable, proper format.

I guess Sony isn’t interested in money.

  • @72 – If the hard drive fails, unless I’m mistaken, you’ll lose the save data for both your DLC and your hard copies. So you replace the system, re-download the DLC, and start it from scratch. But don’t you have to do the same thing with your hard discs? I still don’t understand your insistence that the game “is gone for good”… All you lose is save data!

Good reasons for DLC, off the top of my head, include lower distribution costs, faster distribution times, a wider range of game prices related to the quality/scope of the game (hopefully) instead of being dominantly priced at $60, and extending the lifetime of popular games with optional content.

  • @74 Alright looks like there is no convincing you. I think in the future you’re going to be a little disappointed with the way things are headed now.

DLC is staying because while it isn’t an acceptable, proper format for you, for many others it is. And Sony is interested in money, as they are uh, last time I checked, making money off of DLC.

    That is all.

  • An advice, if Girl reaches a new planet it would be nice if new trophies arrive as well. Makes it for most people more fun to visit new planets and dare a new challenge in collecting them, or else it’ll get boring quite soon. Plus people would stretch more due to collecting the new trophies and everyone knows… the more you stretch, the more you report the sooner Girl reaches a new planet. I think without new trophy challenges people will abandon NNB pretty soon then.

    Just a thought…

  • Argh, an edit button would come in handy, I also like to say, the more trophies people can collect the more other people will buy the game. It sounds silly but that’s seriously the way it is now.

  • I bow before this game design god.
    *bows*

  • love this game

  • Gumbydunzeeto, you’re not the only one who can’t adjust to change or consider new distribution methods, I only buy laser discs!

  • @Gumbydunzeeto:

You do realize these kind of PSN-Games ONLY exist, because they are NOT released on disc!??

So… get over it or miss the fun / do not support these kind of cool games.

only thing you could wait for is a PSN-games-compilation (and then the whining goes on because not everyone wants all of the included games…), but it is stupid to demand a single disc Version of these kind of games.

oh and I prefer Disc-versions as well (though it is just cause I like boxarts etc.), like Burnout oder Siren, but as I said there is a reason for the small/experimental games not to be released on disc.
The PSN-DL system is just fine, if your PS3 or the HDD breaks, just log in with your PSN-account and redownload everything you ever bought, maybe inform yourself a bit :)

  • Thanks again for such an amazing game!

It’s very cool seeing BOY with Pac-Man + Daruma(bodhidharma)! Ironically, Pacman gets limbs + Daruma loses his lol

Personally, always associated your previous work with Daruma + Takashi Murakami/KaiKai&KiKi (forgive me). [This current game reminds me of Marcel Duchamp. lol] Still surprised so many people haven’t ‘gotten’ NOBYNOBYBOY (Is it too ‘wabi-cha'[?])!

    Have a great day!

**Mars orbits the Sun at a different speed to the Earth. However, it’s average orbit is 230 million km from the Sun and the Earth’s is 150 million km, so the closest it would ever pass using these averages is about 80 million km. However, this assumes that the Earth would catch up to Mars in it’s orbit whilst both are at the average distance from the Sun; The furthest is about 380 million km apart.(currently getting 3 mi. closer about every 0.156 sec)**

  • Takahashi-san

thank you for the fun, I hope Boy’s daydream does come true :)

    http://o–o.jp/

  • A very silly silly game, I keep comming back to it.

  • It is indeed silly, I had fun just eating houses and “farting” them out at people.

  • This guy is very nice. He just comes out of nowhere with awesome blog posts.

    Keep them coming! :D

  • Keita, you’re a God amongst game designers.

    Noby Noby Boy is glowing.

  • So did you fill the right eye , mr takahashi ?

  • This game would be 1000 times more fun if the camera wasn’t so frustrating.

Please bring Katamari back home to PS3! Xbots have no appreciation for it anyway…

  • Gumbydunzeeto, You seem to be the only one who doesn’t know this, but you definitely need to.

You can re-download all of your PSN games as many times as you need to. They are never “Gone for good” (as has happened to me MANY times with disc-based media)

Luckily, you are the only person I’ve ever met that’s so against it, so the rest of us will continue to progress.

It is WAAAAAAYYY more likely that PS4 will support PSN games over Blu-ray anything. And are you -really- worried about the $5 when that time comes? That’s no way to live life…

  • @83

A PSN is a *great* idea and something I’ve asked Sony about before – with no response.

It’s something I think they should do on a yearly basis.

I would happily buy compilations on disc whether I wanted all the games or not. No compilation is perfect.

Simply not giving consumers the choice to buy games vs DLC is what makes me so angry.

    The choice *must* be there.

  • Noby Noby Boyis a fun little time waster. I’d love to see Katamari brought to PSN. I miss playig that awesome game! DLC is the future, like it or not.

  • @Gumbydunzeeto

You have yet to respond to the main point that makes your entire argument worthless… the fact that you can redownload anything you purchase FOR FREE!

What possible problem could you have with having a guaranteed safe copy of a game available for you to redownload whenever you need? Untill you can come up with a valid reason why DLC is not a “proper distribution method” no one will consider you anything but a whining troll.

  • Hello Takahashi-san i wanted to say that i love your games, and i love your blog posts. You seem to be so happy for your games, and thats why they turn out so great, you put a lot of love into them. Thank you very much for all of your hard work, and all of your fun ideas.

  • Can we just ban Gumbydunzeeto for contributing nothing to the blog?

Demanding a $5 game on a disc is just ridiculous. Digital distribution is here, and it makes sense for little titles like this. It’s a nice low-overhead model that allows experimental niche titles to get released without all the nonsense of pressing discs and creating cover art. Get over it already and quit spamming the blog.

Oh and I hope everyone gets a chance to play this little gem. It’s a freaky little game and you’ll find yourself playing it and enjoying it for no apparent reason. It’s not easy to describe, just try it for yourself.

  • Jeff,
Can we get a ban on the spammer?

Interesting post. I kinda like the t-shirt. Still gotta pick up the game though.

  • Ahhhh, I ♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡ the NOBYNOBYBOY™ site, posts + shirts! [You could write about anything + it would be fun.]
