PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

130 2

Glancing through this list, it’s not hard to read what’s on my mind: Killzone 2 and Street Fighter IV. I’ve been having an amazing time all week playing SFIV with friends either in person or via the chat-enhanced magic of PSN.

And I especially can’t wait to see all of you online this Friday night in Killzone 2. For the past month or two, we’ve been holding special multiplayer sessions for media members (to help them write their reviews, etc). The class/ribbon system is so deep, I know you’ll have a hard time logging off (just one more ribbon and I get more grenades at loadout! etc).

And if you missed it, I was lucky enough to be invited to sit in on IGN’s Podcast Beyond (Epidsode 80) to talk Patapon 2, ultra-enthusiastic PlayStation fans, and our favorite RPG protagonists. Give it a listen, won’t you?

  • Pfft, I don’t have a single Platinum. I could almost get the one in R2, but that would require I play (and actually be good at) the competitive modes. Not so sure I’d be proud of having 1200 trophies… That’s just me though. I’m just glad to see that so many have thought out this so-called fw2.7 update rationally. I guess I won’t have to beat it back like I had to with the fw2.00 rumor.

  • Heavenly sword was great but short which is why it got such bad scores if it was longer and had more things to do it would of gotten high 8s.

  • I picked up Unreal Tournament today for 20 bucks, I will definately be playing this once they patch for trophies. Haven’t played this since I first got my playstation. Wish all older games would get patches like this, it just might drive sales up.

  • I would greatly apreciate if you add private chat to the Sony console. Private chat is something spectacular. It let’s you plan matches while your not even in one or in a game.

Also let’s you talk privatly with your friends for example: i don’t want to play the game my friend is playing because im getting trophies but we want to speak about things we accomplished in games.

We’re always going to have to slowly message each other which gets annoying very quickly. Furthermore you should add a sound to when someone sends you a message, that would be real helpfull.

I hate when I’m go to the bathroom or be on my computer and don’t here anyone message me and then i go back to playing games and I don’t even get to message them back for a while.

  • its gonna be a great week that’s all i know! Killzone 2 is right around the corner and i cannot be more pumped then i am now. i even heard that some stores are breaking the street date so maybe ill be able to pick my copy up b4 friday.

    peace,
    Lh

  • hey jeff are we going to get a new infamous video on the ps store this weel?

  • week , my bad lol

  • What Sony is actually reading….WE WANT PRIVATE PARTY CHAT W/ CROSS GAME CHAT AND INVITES THAT RUNS PERFECTLY(unlike home)

  • @ Jeff

Thanks for the response but the way the chat went last time with all the people I think I have a better chance of getting the Pope to answer a question.

It’s only 5 days away I guess i’ll just find out, I really hope it’s a trophy everyone can earn or else I am sure people will complain until there’s a patch to fix it or take it out so that everyone will be able to get 100%.

  • Holy crap, yes!

    WE NEED NEW AVATARS!
    WE NEED NEW AVATARS!!
    WE NEED NEW AVATARS!!!

Seriously, its getting ridiculous! If you don’t give you more avatars, then let us use our own! I’m tired of this paper origami thing or whatever it is…

  • yep what he said

  • we should be able to use r own photos as an avatars

  • Firmware 2.7. Is is real?

  • Dear Jeff,

I’m not expecting you to reply to my comment, you never do. In fact, you never reply to comments that require clarification about future firmware-updates or features that have been massively requested by your customers – the community, the fans, clans, blogs and journalists.

Ofcourse you’ve heard about the firmware 2.70-rumour. I don’t really believe any of it, although I’m hoping for it to be true. It’s just that we’ve been let down so many times now. I mean, this are exactly the kind of features that have been requested over and over again, but they were never implemented. It took you guys almost two years to deliver on the in-game XMB (which should’ve been there at the start anyway). Come on! What’s up with that?

I’ve read something about RAM/processor-issues and limitations on the PS3. And about certain pattents Microsoft owns (cross game-invites / cross-game-invites). That’s why you’re having trouble implementing things like cross-game voicechat in the XMB and that’s also the reason why there are no custom soundtracks in every game.

  • Follow-up comment:

I don’t know what to believe anymore. That’s why I think Sony should be open about these things. Private cross-game voicechat, for instance – Can you do it? Is it possible? That’s all we need to know, honestly. If you guys need time, then that’s fine. But keep us posted! You can’t just keep ignoring people.

I hope to hear from you. Thanks.

  • Jeff,
Here are my requested firmware update features- please pass them on:

Blu-ray file-ripping for PSP. I’ve bought A LOT of BDVDs lately and I’m very anxious to see this feature finally come through. A little reassuring news on it would be nice, at the very least…

Ability to establish a “Primary” PS3 user w/ ability to lock individual (personally chosen or tagged) video, photo, game, and audio content from other “Secondary” users on the same system.

Make custom soundtrack support mandatory for new releases.

Enforce the January 1st, 2009 trophy mandate (I’m looking at you, Afro Samurai).

    Invisible PSN sign-in option.

Option to send messages to PSN accounts via email.

Option to attach larger files to PSN messages (including audio and video files) & audio and video message recording.

More features & content accessible with in-game XMB.

Longer character string on PSN comments (let us fill the word balloon, at least) and PSN messaging.

More avatars. We’ve been waiting far too long for these! We should be asking for ANOTHER avatar pack by now… If you want, I can whip you up about 200 of these in a few hours.

Ability to select our own avatar.

    Cross-game chat.

    Thanks!

  • any German Videogamesite?!?

  • Nice reads as always, Jeff. I like the mainstream press covering PS3/PSN issues, this is pretty much the only venue that links to those articles, unless you want to filter through Digg.

  • @ everyone and anyone
lol its been over two years and you guys still comment about cross in game chat ? lol i really dont care if sony allow it in or not because its not a real big deal to me and there alot more people out there who feel the same way . as for sony they do not comment on rumors anyone who own or have own a sony product should know that. as for in game music this is in some games but not in all game this is not a sony problem but a game developer problem if you want this feature in more ps3 games then stop supporting and buying games that do not have this feature stop crying to sony and e mail or call the game developer of your favorite game.

  • cross in game chat here are some reason you haven’t got your answer
1 not alot of ps3 owners demanding the feature
2 home as long there alot of people sign on and its keep making money there will be no use of in game chat you may see it where you can in game chat from home to your friends game.
3 MS own the rights to in game chat so can pay MS so they can use the feature or build a new one from the ground up but this will take a lot of time and money and just see sony doing that.
if and when sony give us a new update dont expect in game chat to be one of the new feature sorry just letting you know now so you want be to upset about it.

  • Will PS3 be getting Lost Planet 2 as well? It has just been announced so a confirmation by Capcom or Sony either way would be the right thing to do. If it is multiplat then Sony should put Lost Planet on the PSN if possible.

  • Cowboyd21:

#1: To suggest that cross-game chat hasn’t been demanded be a lot of owners is simply ridiculous. I’ve read COUNTLESS requests for this feature. Here on the blog. In the official forums. And all across the internet. In fact, it’s one of the most requested features I’ve seen.

#2: No, Microsoft does not own the rights to in-game chat. Where are you getting your information? The hold a patent on custom-soundtracks. Big difference.

#3: How on earth does HOME negate the requirement for in-game chat? That’s a bit like saying: “MADDEN 09 has chat, so we don’t need it in any other game”.

Thanks for your pious ramblings, but get your facts straight, and don’t presume to talk for anyone but yourself.

  • @ Cowboyd21:

Wow. I had a hard timing reading your comments, but I did anyway.

What you’re saying is not true. You have NO IDEA how many people want cross-game voicechat. Do you ever read gaming forums? Do you ever play online games and talk to people about it? Also: Have you ever used the private voicechat feature on, for example, the Xbox 360? It’s great, and you’ll be very happy with if it’s available on the PS3, trust me.

Also, Microsoft does not own the rights. For cross game-invites, yes, but not for common voicechat. Don’t be silly.

About the in-game custom soundtracks: You’re quite right. It’s up to the developers to use it. They have the tools.

  • @ Cowboyd21

I have to agree with everyone after you, cross-game chat HAS been widely requested- and up until a few weeks ago, I (like you) could have given a crap about it. But recently my best friend finally got online and it’s become very quickly evident to me how nice a feature this would be- especially when I’m picking around on my thumbpad, taking minutes to have a simple back-and-forth that would take 5 seconds if I could just say it instead of typing it. I posted the same list of requested firmware updates this week as I did the last, with the addition of the cross-game chat thing. There’s a lot of features I’d rather have, but I do want to see that one, too. I intend to update the list and post it every week…

Anyway, if the rumors are true, then we’ll be getting it sometime after March with the 2.70 update. Sony does listen to our input and works hard. I love them for that! I also love that they encourage us to voice our opinions and requests so that they are able to steer development in the right direction. I’d like to help get the things I want considered, if even a little. Don’t be upset at other posters for essentially doing exactly what Sony has asked them to do… politely, hopefully.

  • lol @ 71 72 and 73 you can call me anything you want but the facts remain the same there no in game or cross game chat. no one from sony comment on it please go look for any article or web sites where a spokesperson from sony had comment on these feature pause pause pause dont worry i can wait. MS do own the rights to there in game and cross game chat system like i said before sony would had to buy there system right or build a new one from the ground up and i dont see sony doing that. do not get mad at the messenger you shouldn’t get mad at the message its been 2 years and the only people who care about this feature are just a few . let me be clear agin i dont care if sony allow this feature in , i know a few of you do but its not a make or break deal for anyone wanting to buy a ps3.

  • @ Cowboyd21:

    No… comment. Wow.

    @ Montana/Kay:

    Check out this topic/document:
    http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psnetwork&thread.id=419658

I would love to add some of your feedback.

  • as for home its is the answer to MS cross and in game chat sorry if that upset you and i just dont see sony allow cross in game chat and since they have home . one will kill the other and that not good for sony baby home . i really see sony allow that feature in when home making them that much money lol stop thinking like a gamer for a second please if and when you do you will see your answer to cross and in game chat. if and when sony give us news on the updates for ps3 and you dont see your feature agin 71 72 and 73 please come back with am right agin.

  • @ Cowboyd21:

If Home’s the ‘answer’ to cross and in-game chat, then there’s seriously something wrong.

But hey, let’s just wait and see what happens. If Sony cares, and if they listen, they’ll deliver.

  • @76 dude what wrong with home ? a lot of people go there , home makes a ton of money so what wrong with it ? like i said before stop looking at it from a gamer view

  • Cowboyd21:

You’re just embarrassing yourself, so give it a rest.

  • @79 naw i think you are just check any article , link or website where anyone from sony comment on cross or in game chat dont worry i can wait lol dont attack me or mine comment just find life to your in game cross chat feature .

  • its simply just amazing to me that some of you believe anything somebody said and what you do run with it. lol where you get these story hahaha am sorry rumor from? gamestop employee ? somebody blog ? a restroom wall? you guys make me laugh do anyone remember the last updates we had ? what was the rumor then ? cross in game chat lol and was it there no, have anyone from sony talk about it no. but am the bad guy hey whatever lol when sony give us our new updates dont be shock your feature wont be there so keep being the longest running joke.

  • Like Montana said; you’re just embarrassing yourself.

    You really are.

Home makes money, sure, and partly because of that, there’s money to improve upon current firmware. This includes communication functionality in the XMB, because that’s what a lot of people want.

There’s more sides to every story, but why would you look at it from ‘another point of view’? The best way to look at it, when creating something that the customer will use, and what a customers wants to use, is from a ‘gamers-perspective’, don’t you agree?

Also: Online gaming is big nowadays. Good features (which are actually ‘standard’ in competetive devices/services) will sell consoles. :-)

There you have the ‘other’ view.

  • @86 all you guys have to do is find any article , website where anyone from sony talk about allowing cross or in game chat on the ps3 that all what wrong you cant find it? you can keep attack me all you want its not changing the facts . lol name calling do not win you points on your argument . as for your comment on home for you to say yeah it make money and yeah alot of people are there is so laughable to me but hey that your view cant get upset with that.

  • My head just hurts after reading your comment. Could you please take the time to finish your sentences properly?

You keep talking about ‘websites’ and ‘namecalling’ (where?)..

Dude, just post a link to the article(s) you’re reffering to then.

  • lol are you two guys still looking ? any article any link and blog or website where a spokesperson from sony given any comment on allow cross game chat or in game chat feature on the ps3 .
you still looking right or you going to keep doing what you been doing a that is to attack me huh? cause its easy to do right lol this is the playstation blog and no one reply to your comments right lol keep being that running joke guys.

  • *Sigh*

Jeff: Could you please reply to one of our comments and clear this thing up? It’s giving me a headache.

    Thanks in advance.

  • @88 just keep attack me dude lol cant find it huh?

  • Do you see anywhere in this blog where anyone said that Sony promised in-game chat? No. You’ve put words (and idiotic ones) in our mouths.

You’re the one saying that Microsoft has ownership of in-game chat, so you’re the one who needs to provide proof.

    WE’LL be waiting.

  • lol you still cant find it huh ? hahahahahaha lol still cant find it ? oh well its not a total loss you can keep attack me. lol jeff cant save you only you can stop being so pighead. lol when sony give us our new update for our ps3 and your feature not there agin am sure you and the two others will have a crying timeout .

  • @92 they do they own the way they do in game and cross game chat like i said before sony will have to pay MS to use there system or sony would have to make there own system from the ground up and i just dont see sony doing that too much time and money will be lost on that ideal lol that have nothing to do with the fact that you cant find what your looking for.

  • Cowboyd21:

Provide proof of Microsoft’s ownership of in-game chat. A link perhaps? Your posts are fully of errors and complete B.S.

And no one in this blog said that Sony promised in-game chat…We all acknowledged that it was a rumour…so you’re arguing with yourself (and making yourself look increasingly foolish).

Now flitter away little June bug.

  • @92 see your problem is you want to keep attack me which its find with but you never have facts to support your view . all am doing is telling you the sky is blue sorry if that upset you but hey do want you want , i like differences in things and life i just dont want everything the same what the fun in that ? i own a 360 and ps3 i love that there different trust me when i say this that feature you want is not important to have , its ok but not a deal breaker.

  • That ‘Sad History of Dan Hibiki’ article is pure win LOL

  • @95 i never said they own in game chat but they do own the way it run on there system you do know they have copyright ? or that to much for you to understand lol now you have 2 lie to be right lol you should had try attack me lol.

  • @95 when you cant pound truth you pound the table right? lol

  • Montana: Let’s just ignore this guy. His last two posts… wow.
