Metal Gear Online – SCENE Expansion Details!

222 1

Hello everyone – I’m excited to announce details of the new Metal Gear Online SCENE Expansion pack! Coming in March, there will be tons of new content to keep old and new players alike entertained: new maps, special characters, new gear, and of course a couple surprises.

First, I’m excited to announce that now, in order to make the SCENE Expansion more accessible, players will be able to use their PayPal account, along with their PlayStation Network Wallet, if they so choose, to purchase the SCENE Expansion.

For those players that want to get a head start on the action and pre-order SCENE through Metal Gear Online’s in-game shop or Konami’s shop, there’s a special gift in store. Once the pre-order period starts, one week before the release date, all players who pre-order SCENE will receive a special “cardboard man” head gear for free. It should definitely provide ample cover for any bad hair day.

Now for the stuff I know you all are most excited about, the new maps and characters!

The first new map is Outer Outlet, an all new environment that takes place in a commercial mall area made up of lots of buildings and subterranean areas. Multiple floors with openings onto the areas above and below will offer many unique vantage points from which to stage the action, while the décor will provide plenty of unexpected places to seek cover. It should be ideal for medium to long range battles.

Second is Hazard House, set in a huge three story mansion – a take on the one seen from Act II of the MGS4 single player game. Lots of doors, hallways, and blind corners, will make for intense claustrophobic combat.

Third is Ravaged Riverfront – a take on the Eastern European environment from Act III of the MGS4 single player game – with a large clock tower surrounded by lots of underground and underwater areas. Lots of clear space, perfect for long range attacks.

SCENE will also bring two long awaited, much requested, special characters to MGO – Raiden and Vamp, both with impressive special abilities and offensive power to spare! First is Vamp, knife-expert extraordinaire. You may be able to defeat him once, but that’s no guarantee he won’t be back for more! Second is Raiden, whose appearance belies his extraordinary skill and agility in combat. They are formidable opponents, or one of them can be a great ally to have on your team. Yes, you will indeed be able to have a multiplayer battle between Raiden and Vamp, which is a fun as it looks! More specifics about their abilities will be revealed soon!

Next week, we will be releasing a trailer for SCENE on the PlayStation Network and the PlayStation Blog, so please look out for that. There’s even more on the way with the SCENE Expansion – stay tuned to the PlayStation Blog in the coming weeks for more details!

  • I think Konami is really underestimating the importance of trophy support. It is a really big deal to a lot of people – including myself.

If they released a trophy patch I would start playing the game the second it was available for download, not supporting trophys is the only reason I have not played MGS4 since last year.

I think Konami should release trophy support first and foremost, and they should take a leaf out of EA’s online book, with seamless integration with PSN/Online.

EA’s games like FIFA and Burnout, where as soon as you start up you’re signed in using you’re PSN and its an easy and seamless transition to online play.

Get the finger out and get trophys! Oh, MGS4 is awsome, one of the best games ever made – seriously!

  • Yeah, I agree. The only reason I don’t play MGS4 or MGO anymore is the lack of trophy support. Much of the foundation for them looks to already be there. Now that MGS4 has hit Platinum or Greatest Hits or whatever we’re calling it now, I think a re-release with trophies would generate some more sales.

I myself haven’t touched my copy since other games started to get patched with trophy support, and I haven’t played MGO at all because of that.

Being its own separate game, MGS4 and MGO could even have dual platinums!

  • Trophies would be nice I’ll admit but I would prefer better support in eliminating glitchers and creating a stable gaming network. These patches are always awesome, the levels are complex and beautifully designed but I could really care less for the special characters they add; I’d prefer new weapons for DP games to be added, there are tons of weapons in the single player game and their additions to the Online game would really overhaul the gaming experience. Pistols and SMGs would really benefit from this but there are shotguns and assault rifles too.

As for the PSN vs. Konami ID thing. Who cares really… if you meet someone you enjoy playing with message them and have them add your PSN handle. The friend list is helpful both on the PSN and Konami system and utilizing them both together works great. There are “bigger fish to fry” than this issue. Like better gear in the reward shop…

  • what about the other two expansions, will we be able to buy them over the PSN too?

  • They should really get rid of the whole id thing and just let us use are psn’s.

  • Trophies pleaseeeee!

  • A trophy patch will be added shortly after the release of the SCENE expansion…atleast that’s the rumors amongst the developers.

  • Trophies!! Trophies were made for MGS4!

  • Very glad to hear about the trophy news. I have been holding off on playing the game a second time, since June of last year, purposely because I wanted to wait for trophies. Personally, I’d like to see separate trophies for MGS4 and MGO, but that’s just me. I don’t even care if I have to start everything on MGO over again. I want trophies.

As for people complaining about the Konami ID, it was VERY inconvenient when the game first came out, but, you know, you can just set it so it enters automatically when you load up the game. It’s a one time hassle and then you’re home free. I don’t see the need to complain.

I do, however, see the need to complain about glitchers and laggers. Not only should they be banned, but their IP addresses must be registered, recorded, and permanently prevented from ever signing on again. They ruined the game for me for a while and they need to be dealt with as harshly as possible.

  • stop expansions… we want trophies……everyone must be agree with the others and don’t buy any expasions until metal gear trophie patch be for real…i from colombia so,,,, sorry for my english.

    spanish version:

dejen de hacer tantas expansiones, queremos trofeos.

todos deberian de estar de acuerdo en no comprar mas expansiones hasta que el parche de trofeos de metal gear sea una realidad.

    bye.

  • what about the trophies….stop the expansions and focus in the trophies. plz.

  • All I’m wondering is if you need to get the previous expansions for the SCENE expansion? This looks really awesome, but I’m not really interested in the first two expansions.

  • This update looks wonderful just like the game is, but I, like many, many other people, don’t play MGO because it’s too much of a hassle. There’s no reason why you guys can’t run the game through the PSN like all the other games. It would be work, and I realize that, but ultimately everyone would benefit including yourselves.

  • The most important thing to me is a trophy patch, the game emblems can be downloaded through game saves, but trophies show skill and would make me want to play single player over, please implement MGS4 to make this great game even more perfect.

  • Great work putting Scene into the PSN. Now to all of you complaining about the Konami IDs, it isn’t bad at all, just put in your name and a password, save it in and your done, easy log in every time. Konami shop on the other hand, not so good.

  • cobra…the price will be 9.99 for the scene pack. 14.99 for the scene and meme. and 19.99 for all three expansion packs. plus if you preorder it on or after the 10th of march, you will get the box hat pictured in the first image!!!

  • Very good reply konami dude Brandon!

If trophies are released, expect me to buy the expansion and play MGS4 again like crazy!

  • LtSilentAssassin

I have a problem. When I started playing MGO I created a character and got a Konami ID and I didn`t have expansions back then. After a month I bought GENE and MEME but I had to create a new character because I couldn`t use the expansions with the old one, and they are both on the same Konami ID. Please help.

  • Do you guys really want my money or what? I tried to pre-order today but there are no options for psn wallet!! Why is that???? I’m extremeley pissed off right now.

  • Konami’s to do list:… nah jokin:P but seriously, Trophy patch, and get rid of this konami/game id thing and intergrate it with psn.

  • Konami, please don’t release Trophies! They are just for bragging purposes! MGS4 is above that! Emblems are so much better…

  • Trophies for both MGS4 and MGO please and let the trophies in MGO act like challenges and they unlock you special gear like camo baclavas, fleece caps, berets, and items that dont have a specific color like blue(not NAVY blue) white etc.

  • 1 more thing 12 Hour Clock PLZ.
