The day we’ve been waiting for is here! And this is just the beginning…

Today we announced that PlayStation Home will enter into open beta, and will be available to everyone tomorrow. This milestone represents the very beginning of a long journey together, as PlayStation Home is an ever evolving, always changing, organic experience — full of new friends to meet, new events to enjoy, and new content to explore.

HomePlaza

If this will be your first time in PlayStation Home, be sure to talk to folks that have been around for a while, as they can show you the ropes. We also have a tutorial built in that will get you started with the controls, as well as help menus for you to reference in the Menu Pad. If you don’t have a USB keyboard or Bluetooth headset paired with your PlayStation 3, now is the time to do so – either option will allow you to easily talk and meet everyone.

One of the first things that you’ll notice that there are always things going on – parties, tournaments, events – some of which will be announced, and some of which that will just happen. You’ve got to be there to be a part of the party, so make sure to log in often to see what is going on.

If you want to know what’s coming up, check out the PlayStation Home forums, as we will be announcing events, tournaments, content updates, and feature revisions there, and by actively participating, you will be the first to know. You’ll also find that the PlayStation Home forums are alive with conversation from the PlayStation Home community discussing everything from feature requests to new clubs to join.

Many of you will have already seen the news regarding participation in PlayStation Home from your favorite game publishers and brands, including Activision, Disney, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Lucas Arts, THQ and UBISOFT as well as Sony Pictures, Paramount, Red Bull, Ligne Roset, and Diesel. As you can imagine, with this many partners already on board, PlayStation Home will grow rapidly, so you’ll need to check back often to see what is new. We’ll do our best to keep you informed on what is going on, but with so much happening in PlayStation Home, there will always be new surprises and secrets to discover. If we simply told you about everything, then it just wouldn’t be as fun for you to discover…

For those of you that have been in PlayStation Home for a while, I wanted to take a moment to discuss something very cool that you will notice right away. Once you get in, you’ll see that a redesigned Central Plaza is there to greet you – we’ve made major upgrades as a result of your community feedback. Thank you!

First of all, the Central Plaza now features a new 4 player mini-game called “Saucer Pop,” where each player launches a flying saucer from a take-off pad and flies around popping bubbles. These bubbles contain stars that have points attached, but watch out for the bubbles with bombs which will take you out if you’re not careful. You also must keep an eye on your saucer’s fuel gauge and collect bubbles with fuel cells or else you will quickly meet a watery fate. Success is all about the high scores, so good luck out there! I’ve been playing for a while now while we’ve been developing the game, so I’m getting pretty good…for those of you that know me, prepare to pop!

Secondly, you will also see some changes to Listen@Home. Now, you’ll be able to select from a number of songs and vote on your favorites. Which ever song gets the most votes plays for everyone, so be sure to get your voice heard and get down on the dance floor.

I could go on and on about all the cool new things you are going see and find in PlayStation Home, both on day one of open beta and beyond. The important thing to remember is that PlayStation Home will continue to evolve and change overtime, so be sure to get in often so you don’t miss out…

See you in PlayStation Home.

  • OH MY GOD!! PLAYSTATION HOME!! OH MY GOD.

Oh wait, I was already in the Beta. But this is still exciting.

  • Just so people know, the PSEye has a mic in it that works in Home, so don’t buy the headset if you have the PSEye. Also, a standard Dell keyboard hooks up via USB just fine.

Will there be anything free in the stores or a way to make points that can be spent in the stores? It’s going to suck if everything in the stores are for real money.

Mainichi Isshou has free stuff as well as stuff for purchase. Will it be like that? Can we get a daily newscast for Home like they have in Japan?

Also, will the avatar features be updated? I mean, my Home character looks NOTHING like me. My Fallout 3 character looks exactly like me…so it is possible.

Personally, I have found the Beta to be a little boring. It’s a bunch of guys standing/dancing around the one girl and trying to talk to “her.” Lamers. After you go to all the places once they are kind of boring.

  • YES YES YES!!!!!!!
Best NEWS of the year for sure.
Thank you Jack, i’ve been waiting for this day for over a year now.

    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

  • For this to work there will have to be content available for people to see and use that is updated very regularly. More Free games to play. Exclusive demos.

Maybe we could watch advertisements for points to use in the stores, like in Mainichi Isshou.

We should be able to use TVs, picture frames, etc in our private homes.

I have no real desire to go online and talk to a bunch of strangers…give the people like me a reason to use Home.

  • someone pinch me… i think I’m dreaming

  • Great. See everyone in the virtual space tomorrow.

  • @ Jack Buser // Director, PlayStation Home:

    Thanks man this is awesome!
I’ve been participating in the HOME beta and love to watch the progression of this wonderful environment.

I just hope some or all of my ideas have been considered.

I have posted them in the proper places, however; if you are interested in reading my rather lengthy list of ideas, (hopefully yes)the can also be found here:

  • YES! I’m so excited.

  • Great news! Keep on the good work!

  • I cant believe it, the day is here. All the people I hyped up to help sway their decision to buy PS3, then asking “so wheres this Home?”….all the pains of having to hear people saying xbox live this and that….Thanks for getting this out Sony, and im sure it will be worth the wait. I side with innovation any day! Best wishes!

  • no complains here, but not sure if i’ll be spending a lot of time on home.. well it’s free so no risk trying..

  • How will we download this thing when it becomes available

  • could you make it that your gender is linked to your psn account. there are way to many guys running round as girls. lol

  • great job i have the closed beta and i bet this stuff is going to make Home that much better, i have a questions though: are there any upgrades to our spaces? Also, are we getting the trophy room or is that later?

  • I just wanted to say that I am really excited about the release. I’ve been in the beta for around 3 or 4 weeks now, and even though I have seen many things for improvement, Home has great potential. I kills me, because I’m a marketing major in college, and I see so many things I’d like to do!

  • Oh my, the plane game in the red bull space caught me off guard. It looks really fun. Home is going to be packed tomorrow. This is going to be the ultimate test for your servers. My friends are ecstatic and all the new features I read about sound great.

  • Oh my god, nice! Thanks, Sony!

Red Bull Air Race looks awesome! I can’t wait to check out all the spaces!

  • @112 Caemgen
“(you know: without crappy voice-quality and lag) for the PSN, I’d pay for it.”

Crappy voice quality? Actually it’s way more clearer then xbox’s voice quality they sound like there yelling from across the street and there microphone isn’t even next to them. That’s what i call crappy voice quality.

  • It’s been a long ride and planety of people were constantly asking “are we there yet?” now Sony can actually say yes:) It will be interesting to see what home is all about, i for one am looking forward to see how this will evolve with time :) Good work Sony!

  • Already have it but iam excited about everyone else getting it. CONGRAT’S EVERYBODY

  • its about time

  • @ caemgen hey man i hope you are ok man i was reading all the post and you got hit bad man lol but that what happen when you go to the wrong party . 1 ps3 is selling more then 360 2 there are more 360 that crash with the red ring of death then ps3 crashing . sorry dude but true and right now the truth hurts . as for in game song and chat ps3 have that in some games but 2 me i dont care if it in there or not and if it up to me i wont allow it because to me real gamer want games not a over price m p3 player or cell phone but that just me but congratulation to sony and home .

  • I don’t know what every1 is trippin on right now in this blog. The point is home is awesome, I hope every1 utilizes what we have been given, I hope the creators listen to those of us who have been on and implement the ideas of some of the gamers, they will really expand the experience. Thanks for new application J. Buser and the rest of your crew. :))

  • The Red Bull Plane game looks pretty sick. Hopefully there will be ALOT more games like that in HOME. Cant wait for everyone to experience HOME tomorrow!!!!

  • Wow, just wow.
Long coming, but I must say..
I can’t wait to try out that plane game.
I can’t wait to see the game rooms.
I can’t wait to launch more warhawk games.

GO SONY! GO HOME! GO PS3!!!

  • One word…

    Finally

  • @ 274 you are right and that what i posted early ago

  • I’m glad to see more coming to Home. Will current beta testers have to start from scratch? What changes should we expect to see? And I might sign in tomorrow to show around some of the newbies, if the servers hold up.

  • i want some watchmen in our USA theaters. that would be sick. you guys should also post new game trailers (uncharted any1?) and movie trailers in there. you know, keep it updated and fresh with new stuff every week. i think that would be pretty tight.

    peace,
    Lh

  • hello fat cats.

    betas are uncalled for…

  • I hope they since their pairing up with EA that there will be an NHL game area!

  • Will DIESEL gear be free?

Also how do you get to those game rooms?

    Will trophy showrooms be available?

  • SWEEEEET!! I can’t afford many games right now, so hopefully this will help me get some more use out of my PS3 other than a glorified DVD player! Go Sony!

  • I would love to donate some of my original music to be played in home..
who I talk to about donating??

  • aww sony we love you i have 1 question!
    1. how come we as the world dont have united home servers? wouldn;t this make it hard for party games ? just wondering

  • Mr. Buser, Closed Beta users will have to do an update or will have to download Open Beta from the PlayStation Store? Thanks!

  • @293 read on IGN It will open early in the morning..but thats just IGN

  • i have had home for awhile now and im sorry but im not impressed with this. hopefully you guys can make some vast improvements

  • @104
your not spoiled. If xbox arse-raped you and charged you for the prevailage, Then you would be spoiled.

  • 273 (Chris):
Dude, don’t be such a pain. The PS3 does not sell more than the Xbox does.

I have both consoles so I don’t went to ‘the wrong party’, I’m just being objective and comparing to the ‘other’ online service.

I my heart it’s all PlayStation, ever since the first one. Games like MGS, Spyro and Die Hard Trilogy made that happen, and I’m very excited about Home finally releasing.

But I’ve been in the BETA and there are a few things I’d like to voice my opinion or request about.

Is this a bad thing? Grow up people.

  • was hopeing i could get it tonight and just wonder around till morning looking at stuff, oh well whats a few more hours after so long

  • @ 297: Grow up.
