  • BulletToothTony Microsoft has a patent on that so called “TRUE IN – GAME music” of which you speak of. They can’t do it any other way than they have it. It should be pretty well known that they have to support it via patching and by using a specific method. You’ll never see games like Enchanted Arms or Devil May Cry 4 with in game custom soundtracks. So… You have your answer.

I’m not affiliated with Sony but… there’s no reason you should be asking this I have known this for a long time. I read about that in an interview before the 2.4 patch even came out. Unfortunately your version of in game sound tracks is patented and can’t really be done as of yet.

Glad you can handle the truth buddy. Welcome to the team :P

  • @BulletToothTony:
they could add it to all games (as far as I know it is functional on dev-PS3s?).
Thats how it worked in the video with PJ Monsters long before the Patch.

Our “Retail-Firmware” does not support that “forced” custom-music. Either because they don’t want us do have to turn off manually the ingame-Music, don’t want to interfere with cutscenes/the developer-decisions or even because of that MS-patent.

  • Can you give us real in-game music? Leaving it up to us is a lot better.

    OBAMA FTW!

  • It’s up :D

  • HOME HOME HOME HOME HOME HOME!!!, i mean y know now we have a life with playstation, but what is a life without a HOME,,,, so sony, onegai, hayakuuuuuuu.

  • Cool, thanks for the heads up and for actually telling us what it does.

  • Thanks for the heads up Eric.

Read about some of the problems you’re specifying that a few people stated they had on this blog and the forum.

Always nice to know Sony likes to keep most of us happy, no matter how many complaints you people receive.

  • how bout some in game chating already just please in game chating

  • oh and you REALLY should move the battery-Status-Icon-Popup

I can’t believe it still overlays the clock %)

  • Venom X if you want “REAL IN GAME MUSIC” you have to use the official soundtrack. :P If you want custom soundtracks… most games are supported and well most games I play have a great soundtrack that I can’t decide what to change it for.

The difference is within games like Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket powered Battle Cars which is great, but even better with something heavy. Drowning Pool, Iced Earth, and Disturbed have been working well on that game.

For Wipeout I just like the calm sounds of Freezepop while I mostly listen to classic rock like Queen for Burnout Paradise and Hight Velocity Bowling. I understand that there are some games you want custom soundtracks for but most of the games I play have an excellent soundtrack I don’t want to replace… doesn’t look like you’re in the same position I hope they fix some of the games you’re looking for soon.

  • just started update. 0 percent.

  • Hey Eric a bit off topic,But Any word on some new Avatars? :-)

  • I’m guessing that this update well fix the problem with Mortal Kombat II??

  • not sure why these issues warrant an update…must be something serious

    PSN: yungder

  • TommyFlorida there were some new avatars with the last firmware I believe. I saw some avatars since then that I don’t remember seeing. i could be wrong though. I would LOVE some Disgaea Avatars pwetty pwease.

  • for a minor update it rather loads slow 14% only

  • @24 The Wood

They never took out the option to sign out besides logging off or shutting down the system. It used to be under friends when you pressed Triangle on your ID but they moved it under Account Management. So just go to the Account Management and press Triangle and you should have the option to sign out of PSN.

  • can you please give is us private chat.. you gave us a great headset now give us private chat.

  • Sony, It really angers me when I sit down to finally play your vary expensive entertainment device and I’m forced into an SW update for 30 to 45 minutes. I just wanted to let you know.

  • I hope it fixes the magically erasing text with the keyboard that happened when pressing a few buttons. It’s annoying when you are trying to type a message, and it all erases.

  • update up now

  • mine took all of FIVE minutes, it’s not sony’s fault, I just bet that you never ever power cycle your modem and/or router. pull their plugs out, replace modems first( after 30 seconds) then the router, then start ur ps3 and dloads will be sooper fast. FIVE MINUTES for the entire update and install. FIVE5Cinco

  • I really hope this help a bit the continuosly disconnection from the Ubisoft server on Far Cry 2… maybe not cuz its not the PSN actually the problem is with they server which need a patch A-SAP

  • BetaFreak1942 its not that expensive of an entertainment device…

You don’t have to pay for a proprietary HDD Drive, you don’t have to pay for a proprietary high definition drive, I’ve heard of less artifacing on the PSN Video store videos than the 360 ones, 200+ gigs isn’t even more than 100 dollars…

A Blu-Ray player by itself runs about 120-800 dollars and most aren’t firmware upgradeable, also you can still use it as an entertainment hub just not play online without the update. So basically you’re complaining because you can’t talk to people or play online for that 30-45 minutes…

Question.. are you not American on the U.S. boards and are you not at all concerned with the presidential run? I have the stuff streaming through coaxial tv tuner.

Update just finished it started at 6:43

  • Cool so this new update froze my ps3 GREAT JOB!

  • That was quick, I was not expecting this for a day or two lol.

  • Is there gonna be any updates for LBP…..the servers arn’t the best right now, it lags, and I have “super high-speed internet.”

  • ok, maybe not

  • Nice to see the lag getting fixed with text chat is popped up. It lags really bad in LBP.

  • ADD NEW PSN AVATARS! ADD NEW PSN AVATARS! ADD NEW PSN AVATARS! ADD NEW PSN AVATARS!

    OBAMA FOR THE WIN

  • which software did u improve?!? can u be a little bit more specific?

  • Does this mean that 720p-only games will now magically scale to 1080i for those of us with 1080i-only televisions?

  • I’m rather fond of major ones :)

  • Hey guys, can you plz change how the in-game music volume works? I want the sound of the in-game XMB player to be completely muted when I press the volume to -4. Well is not like I want to mute the ingame xmb music, is just that I want it to go up to that point, because sometimes the sound of some games that allow custom music throught ingame xmb are way to low and when I put my music throught the in-game xmb the music is way to loud even with the game sound at max (like soudn effects, etc etc). And the music is way to loud to hear the game dialog or anything else.

This is something I notice in Midnight Club LA and Motorstorm, I just want better volume control, I want -4 to be mute and 0 to be normal volume, because having -4 like a low volume and not mute is not useful because it’s still loud.

Anyways I should love if you guys can fix this, also fix the SHIFT+Backspace = DELETE ALL MESSAGE, I have deleted a lot of messages when I do that, plz change that too.

Still thanks for all the support throught the Firmware updates, you guys are the best!

  • LoL, funny night. First, I uploaded SOCOM to install a 3 hour update. Then I said, let me try Resistance 2 online for a few, another update waited for me. The when finally done downloading and ready to play R2 online, I get a system update notice :D. Still love you Sony :).

  • nice. Although I am still waiting for the day these things are address:

    -A sound for message notification
-Colors differentiation between login/off, message received, and other notifications
-certain notifications in different areas of the screen.
-Battery notification moving to the right of the date/time.

Wow, I gues si have an issue with the notification boxes. lol

  • another update? i haven’t seen this many updates in 1 year – wow.

  • I LUV THAT SONY KEEPS UP WITH IT U.I AND OTHER THING THAT SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM.
I THINK SONY NEEDS TO MOVE FORWARD, IN BRING US A FRESH U.I, THOUGH IT JUST GETTING OLD SONY UR U.I NEEDS A NEW FACE. PLZ
OH YEAH THANKS FOR THE NEW RESISTANCE 2 ITS GRATE TO PLAY..

  • James 44121 server lag depends on the person’s hosting connection as well as the overall server lag depending on how many people are on. Remember the game is tied extensively to online if you’re playing single player and having issues, disconnect from the PSN network. Otherwise… wait for lower peak times. This game was just released in many areas of the world so it may be a good thing that the servers are laggy if that means that a lot of people are buying Little Big Planet.

I’m fine with have a few days or a month or so that it’s a bad idea to go online if it means that I get a lot of people to create great levels, play my levels, and participate in the community. I mean it would be hard to keep up with teh servers if we see tons and tons of people continually buying and playing the game. Sony doesn’t charge us 30-50 a year like the competition does and the other competition you still might not be able to get a random encounter on Super Smash Brothers Brawl (their only REAL online hardcore game) a year later. I last checked 4 months ago… but I wouldn’t be surprised if people STILL can’t get those random games very often.

  • I can’t even download it. :( It stopped at 34% and it’s really slow.

  • TAKE OFF THE CAPS RICKDOEZ1 PLEASE.

The XMB is award winning, is the same interface as their PSP, their t.v.s, and many other Sony products… Why change something that works great? It’s also award winning so… it’s obviously not broken.

If you want a new U.I. you can always install a inux distro.

I did some testing and it seems that my issue with muffled music seems to be fix YATTA. I’m happy there’s very little reason for me to be dissapointed. Unless… Sony ends up breaking promises and rumors about the X-game video chat turn out to be false.

  • thanks for the post..

but would it really have killed you guys to tell us that waited to dl 2.5 to wait for this 2.52 firmware update instead of downloading the original buggy 2.5?

anyway, i hope this fixes the black and white video playback and dnla streaming problems..

I do appreciate these firmware updates, i just think it’s unfortunate that sometimes they create more problems than they fix..

    peace

    and

    OBAMA 2008!!!!

    :)

  • When is Sony going to fix the clock/battery overlap error? How hard can it be guys?

  • quick fixes are always welcome in my books. if it makes LBP run any smoother then bring it on. back to Resistance 2 for now!

    peace,
    Lh

  • maybe its just luck but i actually sent Sony a letter about this and how the on screen keyboard has been acting funny and now heres a firmware update that fixes it i guess Sony really does care about our comments and concerns. thanks for the update Eric and how about taking to someone about bring a Sony store to Peoria Illinois

  • oh and will every1 shut up about “go OBAMA” i have a television that i hear enough of that on. please don’t bring politics into the blog. its gonna get nasty.

    kthxbai,
    Lh

  • Kenshin001 it’s not an error. Are you using an SD t.v.? I am. I don’t know if there’s a difference based on if you are using an HD TV but you have to remember how small a real estate we have on SD T.V.s

If they move the batter icon, they move the message and login/log off notifications, then we have a lot of screen real estate dropping down. I’m curious to know if it works the same on HD displays. Sure they may be able to move it… but… Do you really want to risk games crashing trying to fix something so small?

Every software update generally screws up 5 percent of the code. Whether it’s a PC code, or it’s a video game console code or anything else. 5 percent problems for every patch is pretty normal in the programming world.

Sony’s a hardware company, Microsoft is a software company. I’d rather have solid hardware that doesn’t break 16-32 percent of the time than software with on and off glitches. I’m a single player kind of guy and so are a lot of people from the PS2 fanbase.

  • “Congrats everyone we now have a president that matches our video game systems”..

Thats a very racist thing to say, MakaiOokami.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for fixing that typing issue. It was really starting to get on my nerves.
