What’s next for Burnout Paradise?

108 9

Phew! Another big week, here at Criterion Games, but it’s great to be back on the blog! Today, we made the first of a series of announcements calling out our 2009 Burnout Paradise content.

So first up, we’re talking about the in-game browser for the PLAYSTATION 3. We always like to embrace the great hardware innovations for PlayStation. We’re using the browser to bring you closer to your friends and also to get you the latest news on what we’re working on – it’s like having criteriongames.com inside the game.

We’ll bring you all the latest on this PlayStation-exclusive feature over the coming weeks, but for now all you need to know is it’s called Burnout Paradise Network and it’ll be ready in Feb ’09.

Next up let’s talk Burnout Paradise Party Pack.

Burnout’s an awesome social game, but the action’s all online. With Party, we wanted to create something for when all the players are in one place – gathered around a single screen.
Fans of the classic Crash Mode from Burnout 2: Point of Impact will know that this is not the first time we’ve done something like this. And we hope the response to Party is as warm as it was for Crash mode.

So, if you like to get together and play games, it’s time to break out the drinks, party hats and balloons!

Now you can enjoy Burnout Paradise in a completely new way.

1. Get together with up to 7 friends and gather round your PLAYSTATION 3. Here you can see some of the Burnout team lining up for a little Halloween-themed fun. You can see the full session in our latest Crash TV video podcast – it’s The Halloween Special!

2. Start Burnout Paradise and get the Party Pack update from the Store

3. Pause to admire the excellent new Party Edition visuals and atmosphere! We’ve overhauled not just the presentation screens but also the in-game visuals, which are now brighter and more colourful in recognition of Burnout’s new party theme.

4. Select 8-player party and get ready for the action. If you’ve got the PlayStation Eye add your picture now.

5. It’s pass-the-pad, so you’ll only need one controller to play, no matter how many players are involved!

Halloween Party 7
6. The game selects a player at random and drops them into Paradise with a simple, fun challenge to complete.

Land a barrel roll!

Survive racing oncoming traffic!

Race a circuit of the dirt track in the best possible time!

There are 3 types of challenge to take on – Stunt, Speed and Skill. Stunt involves jumps and tricks. Speed features quick time trials and timed challenges. Skill includes racing through oncoming traffic and drifting your car.

7. Pick up the winner and run around cheering / commiserate the loser

8. Give it another go! Don’t forget, there are extra trophies and achievements available within this pack, as well as a stack of other enhancements.

You’ll be able to purchase this awesome premium Burnout Paradise content from February 2009, but if you haven’t got Burnout Paradise already, there’s never been a better time to buy.

We announced today that we’re bringing all the 2008 innovations as well as Party to something we’re calling Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box. It’s a new packaged game that’ll be available in Feb 2009!

Look out for more soon – either here on the awesome PlayStation Blog, back home on the Criterion Games Web site and in our video podcast – Crash TV.

    the game has proper weather.
there isnt a replay option so that if you fail, you simply move on and try something else.
there isnt customizable controls because it is the best setup. X doesnt have the same sensor level as R2, so it wouldnt work if u changed them.
You can’t complain about the bikes considering they were FREE.
    Same as above.
There isn’t XMB music access because custom soundtracks is intergrated into the actual game.

Think your comments trought before you post them.

    Burnout team rocks!

Day 1 purchase :) my favourite game by a long shot! :D

  • #through, sorry.

    lol.

  • Are they ever going to fix the hud? I mean its nice to know whos in the room, but atleast give us the option to make it disappear.

  • I could only wish that all development teams supported their games like you do, Keep up the great work and lets keep the streets of Paradise City busy for a long time to come.

  • This is cool… but I was under the impression that the island update was next, and was coming by the end of the year. Now you’re telling us the next update is a party mode, and it’s 3 months away. I may be complaining now, but I love the game and have convinced many people to buy it. Don’t get the wrong idea. Thanks for the support thus far.

  • umm k this update looks good but if im not mistaken we half to buy this update boo and whatever happend to the new island location i thought it was coming soon after the trophies and bike packs? and yes split screen would be awesome but if know one has noticed for some reason developers think all we want is online mp only we want both if it had split screen it would make the game so much better instantly also add some drivers in the cars whats with the no driver to fake and looks stupid other than that this game is good but needs some updates that can be easily done np

  • This is exactly why I voted for Criterion in the Golden Joysticks! It’s a shame they didn’t win it.

COD4 is a great game and deserved the title of Game of the Year, but just because Activision were the devs doesn’t entitle them to the best dev award!

Which would you want to award – constant unflinching and FREE support for your game – or hugely overpriced map packs and “sorry we’ve moved on we’re not adding trophies” support for your game?

IMO it was a huge error of judgment by the gaming public not to recognise Criterion’s contribution to gaming and the future of DLC…

  • im buying all the dlc you will release for this game, you devs deserve it, for the amazing job you did so far supporting this game on the ps3, i wish all devs would support their games on the ps3 like you

    you devs are the best

  • Come on guys, this is BS. Stop screwing around and give us true two-player action. It’s not a racing game if we can’t race two-player split-screen. You need to understand that sometimes adding in all the features isn’t worth squat if you don’t have the basics!

  • great news, great game, you go girl.

  • #6 ->Jeremy Chubb <— is it neccessary to be a total tard? The guy was probably wondering about the Release Date of the Island.. do you still believe there’s no-one that asks you “how is the island going?” that has not already checked your info in the island, or are you just stuck in your own little world of time-space? Because as I recall, the time we’ve been spending on waiting for this Island.. has been enough for even my grandmother to know every little detail that’s been mentioned about that island already! Get a move on already.. because letting us wait for long isn’t something that’s gonna be “worth the wait”, as in real life, a new update isn’t THAT worth of waiting for.. how could it be? You think I’m gonna compensate the waiting with hours of playing or what? Dofus. The bikes update was like “whooo *exited*” for about.. half an hour and I’ve explored all that was uniqe for bikes =\ !

  • Very Nice lol

I need to That Credit Card I want the PSN edition

  • That’s really cool, I love u guys, but I’m really waiting for the Black 2! :) Any news on that?

  • Can we get some snow for winter?

  • Yeah, snow and rain would be awesome!

  • I bought the game in Germany and was very disappointed when I noticed that the games language was in French!

I never had this problem with any other game that I bought here in Germany.

There seems to be no fix for this available, only solution is to sell the game.

    :(

  • Congrats on making Burnout one of the best games for the PS3… I LOVE this game and have been a Burnout series fan for a looong time. Keep up the great work… I have sold every one of my friends with a PS3 on buying this game… (except for one… and I am wearing him down day by day)
