The PlayStation.Blog is getting into the Halloween spirit. We’re currently digging into our “spooky” catalog of games such as SIREN: Blood Curse, the “Skate to Victory” ghost level in LittleBigPlanet, the new All Hallow’s Eve ball pack and downloadable costumes in High Velocity Bowling, and the newly-released BUZZ! Quiz TV Horror Pack full of over 500 horror movie trivia questions. Check out a few of them below:

Just to provide a little added incentive to get you into the spirit, we’re announcing a costume contest. The rules are simple: dress up as one of your favorite Sony Computer Entertainment characters (e.g. BUZZ!, the game show host from the BUZZ! games, Sackboy, Kratos, Sly Cooper, Jak, Daxter, Ratchet, Clank etc.) and submit a photo of yourself in costume holding up a PlayStation branded controller or PSPsystem. Email your photo to by 5:00 PM PST on November 3, 2008 (that gives you all of Halloween weekend to capture an image of yourself in costume).

Your favorite Social Media Manager, Jeff Rubenstein, will use his good judgment based on 50% originality of costume and 50% likeness of character to select the top FIVE costumes out of all of the submissions. We’ll then post the final five on the blog on November 5, 2008 on or about 9:00 AM PST and allow you, the readers, to vote. The three submissions with the most votes win. Vote by clicking on the radio button that corresponds with your selection. We’ll close voting at 5:00 PM PST Friday, November 7, 2008 and announce the winners on the Blog that following Monday, November 10, 2008.

The costume that receives the most votes will win a PLAYSTATION® 3 80 GB system. The second place costume will receive a PSP® 3000 system. The third place costume will receive PlayStation Network vouchers valued at $50.00 USD.

And because we are having so much fun testing each other with the BUZZ! Quiz TV Horror pack, we’re adding another little challenge to our costume contest. The individual with the best BUZZ! game show host costume (judged solely by Jeff) based on 50% originality of costume and 50% likeness of character will be awarded a PlayStation Network voucher for the horror quiz pack, in addition to a BUZZ! Quiz TV bundle.

So, get started on creating those costumes; we can’t wait to see what you come up with. Good luck and Happy Halloween!

  • Jak, Daxter,

Please tell me you’re making LBP costumes for them! I just got the game, it’s awesome.

  • awesome community support !!… but please… I’ve seen absolutely no advertisements on tv for LBP or Resistance 2… advertising commercials with a catchy song is key. … let the world know your there!!!

  • i’ve seen ads for lbp and r2 all over the place…will submit costume

  • Now… will all the haters that complain about having to be one of the first X number of respondents to win something PLEASE give it a rest?
    kisses! :-)

  • BTW A,A,A

  • Excellent stuff…wish I had the skill required to make a costume for a contest like this.

  • Ads…haven’t seen one.

    Contest? SONY CAT FTW!

  • Talking about costume, here in Canada, I just got my LBP pre-order (with Nariko… So cool). But there was also an astronaut costume give away for people getting LBP in the first week. Server has been down yesterday, and I have not been home yet. Is that costume still available? And if so, how do you get it?

  • I love this idea, too bad I’m not a seemster.

  • quick question, i know you say we can dress as a sony character…does that include alumni like spyro or crash… Oh and can we also dress up as ps1, ps2 , or a ps3…maybe memory cards?

    • Yes, SCE character alumni included. For this contest, we\’re limiting it to characters only, but hardware would be creative! Maybe next year…

  • What about Nathan Hale?

  • If jeff is judging, and 50% is based off of likeness of character, everyone will do Sly Cooper :P

  • Was eccited until i read it was limited to US residents :(

why can’t we Mexicans have nice things like this?

  • Hurray for democracy!

As a citizen of the PlayStaton Nation, I shall be sure to cast my vote when the time comes. Any chance we could get background information on the candidates when the time comes? Perhaps a sob story as to why they need that 80GB PS3 for little Timmy before he dies from fun deprevation? (FD is a VERY serious issue. Send me $10 a month to help fight this serious issue. :P )

  • Oh man, I just got this game today (even though I pre-ordered months in advance…Thanks Gamestop…) and it is BRILLIANT!

Man, I wish I had it for a longer time to make some costumes!!!

  • I think some people are confused…i know i was at first and may still be.

Ok so the contest is to see who can personally dress up with the best costume or were you saying to try and make our Sackboy on LBP look like a Sony character? First i thought u meant Sackboy but after reading some comments i realized you were saying dress up ourselves. But some people may be confused like i was or i could just be alone on this one lol…either way.

    • We\’re asking that you email a photo of YOURSELF in a costume and you must be holding a PlayStation controller or a PSP.

  • i’ll take my prize in advance and i’d like to take this time to thank all the folks who tried! HAHA j/k guys, best of luck to all.

  • OFF TOPIC: Valkyria Chronicles review hits IGN – 9.0. The PS3 is on fire!

Oh come on they are all major involvements throughout. I believe it’s the first option, but come on. lol

  • Sweet…

But where’s the spaceman outfit we were suppose to get first week of release?

  • How about a shibito….even though they’re not characters. Its going to be hard to make a quality costume within 5 days.

  • Thanks Jill.

Can’t wait to see the pictures.

  • Thank you, Sony, for your xenophobic attitudes toward Canadians.

As for scary, the scariest thing I’ve seen all year was the way Sony folded so quickly to the whims of religious fanatics and how quick they were to censor a game.

    Scary, and shameful.

  • @24…

Why don’t you worry about Canada’s xenophobia when it comes to media instead of ragging on SONY. Canada is so uptight about it’s ‘heritage’ that it spends BILLIONS each year on socialist media outlets (CBC) yet still lets Quebec kick it in the grobbs about ‘culture’.

There decision to delay a game has ZERO long term impact on you and now allows the game to be enjoyed by more people (since those that may have been offended can now enjoy the game)

    btw…I’m Canadian.

Oh…and a BIG THANK YOU to SONY for so far being able to maintain our prices at the same as those in the US even though our dollar is in the tank. I know you might not be able to do it much longer.

  • Cool beans, can I enter my dog instead of me? I have issues with my picture plastered all over the net in some silly costume, but my dog sure wont mind dressing up as daxter or something lol.

  • What about the first week costumes for LittleBigPlanet?

    How do I get those?

  • @someguy17 shibito rock. zombies on steroids.

  • Speaking of costumes. Any word on when the “first week” LBP costumes will be available for download? I saw somebody using the Space suit body in online play but I haven’t been able to find it for download. Something to be available at the PS Store update today?

  • Awesome. This will be fun.

  • quick question, way is the ads 4 the games get off y’all azz stop joking the is hot!! hot!!

  • What is the 2nd place prize? Is it the PSP 3000 or is it the PSP 2000? Read the whole blog people.

    @30 Was that a question?

Does Media Molecule plan on adding 1080i support to Little Big Planet? I know some people have older televisions, and thus need the 1080i support to view the game at a decent detail level. Any info on this?

  • [DELETED]! I’m still not a resident of the United States!

    I mean.. woohoo!

  • Trick or Treat?

Trick: let’s find out about psp plus (spiderman web of shadows has it, how many more)
    Treat: Give us HOME

  • Why the hell aren’t these contests open to Canadians ? What’s the problem ?

  • answer 1. The Lutz family
    answer 2. James Wan
answer 3. Throws it in the fire.

sweet i won about 50 points in buzz………

  • I’ve seen ads on TV for Resistance 2. They were pretty good too. Also Motorstorm ads. “Lunatics Unite” … although more in-game footage should be merged.

  • @35

Because Sony are xenophobic against everyone who is not American or who threaten to bomb them.

    (See Big Planet, Little)

  • The Blog turned into one big sweepstakes and a culture war.

  • whose gonna be kratos……..its easy dont wear clothes only something called ‘lungi’

  • LBP costumes on Japanese store for FREE!ftw??o.0

  • @26

We have CBC so we don’t have private media corporations telling us what to believe is the truth. Look how that has benefited the war mongering nations of the world. Keep it public and keep us informed. We don’t want Fox News do we?

Anyways, Good work Sony and I will try to make a decent costume even though I was thinking about being Dwight Shrute from The Office.

  • Fox news is the funniest news on the planet. I’m glad we get it out here in NFLD! Joostin I think you’re being just a little bit too harsh to our neighbors to the south. I like Americans and I also realize that the contests can’t be held here because of legal matters. Too bad the Canadian contingent of the PlayStation network ie: doesn’t host contests for us.

We would like our own blog also you know.
I would settle for a home beta invite. Jeff of all people knows this. It would keep me totally buys.
thatsonyguy at the hot place for mail. (anti net bot way of writing it)

  • Just for fun ^_^

    * LUTZ

I have to get Buzz! :-P

  • Just got home beta, Thanks! W00T Wo0T!!!

  • the new costume will be up when the store updates today jap got theres but dont work 4 us accounts and the t shift add on is not free too astronaut costume & halloween costume its free

  • We want Skype on PS3, useable cross-game, through the in-game XMB. I know this is un-related… but it has to be said! The quality of the P2P Skype networking is undeniable. If it’s on the PSP, why not have it where it would be more useful – your media center. Thanks.

  • @40…

Yep…SONY is xenophobic against anything not American…I hear they hate the Japanese.

Um…you trust the government more than competing private industry? Best case scenario…gov’t is full of incompetents that can’t make it in private industry…worse case, government is controlled by private interests anyways.
