Hi everyone, as Eric mentioned in his post yesterday, we wanted to give you a live demo of the PSP’s direct access to PlayStation Store, which will be coming with the 5.00 firmware update. Now whenever your PSP is connected to the Internet over WiFi, you’ll be able to download and enjoy the latest games, demos and trailers on the go without needing to sync up to your PS3 or PC. Here’s a brief walk-through of what you’ll experience.
On a related note, the PS3 firmware update (2.50) will add Flash Player 9 support to the PS3 Web browser, so you’ll be able to actually watch this video (and all of our blog videos) on your PS3 once the firmware goes live!
In addition, I want to point out that the PlayStation Network is scheduled to be unavailable in North America today from 11AM to 4PM PST due to essential maintenance work.

Are you guys talking about the PS3 update or the PSP update because this is a blog post about PSP and the update isn’t showing as being available for me…
Anyone else notice how the update wasn’t mandatory? Usually when there’s a firmware update, you can’t access the store until you apply the update, but this time it didn’t happen like that.

Dying to get my hands on this update but I am waiting to get the PSP 3000. BTW, just got PS3 FW:2.5. Thank god you guys got rid of that ugly gray web-based account management and it is all now within the XMB.

why do the videos PAUSE now when i bring up the xmb?? that is bullchocolate!!!
I could actually still listen to my video/ see some of it playing when I went to go respond to a message before this update… I watch a lot of videos so needless to say I am very disappointed with this, removal of a feature.
Also move the controller battery meter from on top of the clock, that looks retarded.

Unfortunately the Flash 9 doesn’t seem to work here on the blog. I updated a few minutes ago and that was the first thing to try out.

Maybe it’ll be fixed in the next update. Perhaps we are beta testers for this update since, at least when I retrieved it, it wasn’t mandatory. Hopefully the ability to edit the album info for multiple pieces of data, in-game access to music for all ps3 games, cross game invites, and persistent voice chat will be addressed as well. Well that is if more people let Sony know about these needed features.

I hope SONY is listening, because I thought they were supposed to add features to newer updates, not REMOVE them.
All the other features of this update are nice don’t get me wrong, but I REALLLLLYYY miss being able to bring up the xmb and respond to a message while my videos play on in the background….. and I only updated half an hour ago….

Remove the battery icon over the time display and put it somewhere else. Also have the option of low power state for background downloading and put the shut off after downloading icon for the PS hold down way of shutting the console off.

Great update guys. Could we please get custom avatars or at least a better selection of them? It would be cool if we could just take a pic from our ps3 and use it as our avatar…I know some people may abuse that feature, but maybe when its uploaded it could go through some sort of verification before your able to use it. So people are not posting porn and stuff as their avatars…Hope you guys can do somethin like that. Thanks keep up the good work.

You can now register your PS3 to play Subscription (DRM) DivX files (check under System Tools!)
Please make the BROWSER fully functional. I hate that it is on the system and doesn’t support flash or getting flash updates. With 2.50 I only get sound from vids not vid and sound. Half way there. Come on guys its on the system so make it useful or take it off. Also when I try and log in to PSblog it just keeps loading and I have to turn off the system. Thanks, keep on rockin.
I bet most people wouldn’t mind if the in-game xmb was redesigned to free up memory in order to allow in-game access to music for all ps3 games. I hope Eric and the other firmware developers keep that in mind.
I’m still having trouble accessing websites with Flash enabled. I keep getting the “update your flash player” message.
It seems a tad ungrateful to make a suggestion for improvements right after an update…nevertheless, I had a brainstorm and had to share it:
– Screenshots of the games for sale at the Store (arranged as clickable thumbnails), included in the game info boxes; it would facilitate purchase decisions. Sort of like looking at the back cover of a game at the local shop.
– Here’s my REALLY crazy idea: user-generated reviews and a system that ranks reviewer credibility in a manner similar to many online forums? Or something like that? ^_^
Ok well I only get sound from IGN vids. Everything else in the update is nice. I would like just a bit more control of the vids. This update is cool but a playlist would be Sweet! It would be great for watching a whole season of a TV show.

Isn’t a memory fault… is because the patent of Microsoft to use in game music in a console. Sony find a loophole that they can play music in game, not in the console so it’s up to the developers this time but sony make the tools that makes easy for them.

im just curious why you had to make the video pause while you push the ps button when that was never a problem. i like the idea that the video is still playing in the background while you scroll through your xmb WHAT THE HELL!!
