Life in LittleBigPlanet: Episode 2 (Plus Some Beta Keys for You)

1,936 8

FINAL UPDATE: Everyone who’s going to receive a beta key from us should have already received it. I’ve noticed a lot of, um, pointing out that “I sent mine in before [that guy] and I didn’t get one and he did.” The way we did it is – we gave keys out in the order they showed up in our inbox. With the amount of emails we received, it’s entirely likely that they didn’t arrive in the order that they were sent. Of course, we’d have no way of knowing that… so goes the interwebz.

UPDATE #2: The beta keys are sending out now, so check your inboxes (and spam filters). All should be reach their destinations within about 2 hours (it’s 4.23pm Pacific right now). Good luck!

UPDATE: You can stop sending emails now, we’ve gotten more than enough. We’re processing them now and we’ll update right here again once we’ve begun sending out beta keys. Thanks for the awesome response!!!

Our first dive into the world of LittleBigPlanet taught us all about the SackBoy, now it’s time for another visit! The second episode in this series takes us deeper into the wonders of LBP. This time we answer the question- “How do SackBoys Play?” You’ll soon find out, alone or in a pack, these little guys know how to have a good time.

Oh, and a few days ago, we stirred up a bit of a frenzy by handing out the remaining 50 beta keys we had left over from our Orlando Meet-up. Some of you thought that, as the official PlayStation blog, we should have a bit more than 50 to give away. Well, we here at the PSB don’t like having our Bloghood called into question. So, as of the time of this writing, I’m sitting on a monstrous stack of burlap-covered LittleBigPlanet beta keys, and they’re there for the asking. So ask away, send an email to [address removed, all codes have been sent] and we’ll get them out to you.

Now we’ve got *a lot* of beta keys to give away, and I’d hate for you to develop repetitive-stress disorder from whacking your F5 button to refresh your inbox, so expect it to be a few hours before the codes are sent. We’ll update this post when we have it lined up and start pressing the “send” button.

If you receive a code, this paragraph becomes relevant to you:

    1. Public Beta Ends October 11th, 2008
    2. You must use a consumer PLAYSTATION 3 system that is connected to the internet.
    3. You must have a PLAYSTATION Network Account.
    4. If you have previously redeemed a LBP voucher code, you must delete any old LBP data (along with save data and game data) and download this version (go to Download History and redownload the new code).
    5. This version does not require a DNS redirect and levels created here will be available for consumers at launch of the full title.
    6. Please refrain from creating anything inappropriate, as we do have moderation in place and it may result in your account being suspended or banned.

Downloading the LittleBigPlanet Public Beta.
After you have signed in with your PLAYSTATION Network Account, select [Account Management] on the XMB interface located under the ‘PLAYSTATION Network’ tab, then select [Transaction Management] and click on the option ‘Redeem PLAYSTATION Network Card or Promotion Code’. Enter the following unique code to start the download of LittleBigPlanet.

And once you get in, you can start getting creative. What’s that, you’re looking for inspiration? Have a look at Wired’s Top 10 User-Created LittleBigPlanet Adventures.

  • Max you just get it from here

  • @1352 did you just get in?

  • Damn…LBP news site is giving out to everyone that posted before october 1…..I cant believe i never posted.. im just flying through the loop hole of each beta giveaway. I lose internet 2 minutes before the question is posted on 1up, gametrailers was just retarded (dont think anybody got one from them), there’s something wrong with this site and now the lbp new site. i am one sad panda.

  • This is looking grim guys.

  • no hope is lost, i sense something will come

  • What do the people that stood in line for hours back in November and December of 2006 have to do to get into betas? I was on night shift at the time, worked 12.5hrs, drove 30mins home. Stood inline from 7am until 10am and missed out by 1 PS3. The next 2 weekends was all night lines. Then Black Friday was all…all…ALL night long in a line. The store had none the next morning. I was 3rd in line. Finally the first week of December I stand in line for 4 hrs waiting. The only had 2. Monday morning December 4, 2006. I’m leaving my gf(now wife)’s apt in Atlanta to drive an hour home for work. Stop in the now famous, soon to be closed ‘Lucky Target’ and they have 1 60gb on the shelf. The guy double bagged and 2 people walked me to my car. Now I can’t even get a LBP beta code.

    thanks Sony!

  • i think there are still 2 hours left for the emails to come its only 7:49 jeff said hopefully all emails should be out by 9pm PST.. so they just have a lot of emails to send I guess.. and if they really are sending them to everyone that sent an email then the people who sent emails first would be at the bottom of the inbox by default.

so maybe they are just going in order backwards and everyone will get emails… Also sometimes email servers lag so someone could have sent an email later than another person and it may have got there faster depending on your ISP and servers that it needed to travel through.

  • Well, more disappointment from sony. Good thing I only use my PS3 to play my Blu-ray movies. Time to go back to LIVE. Next thing is we’ll get screwed on HOME.

  • i guess im starting to head that way too. i hope theres a message in my inbox tomorrow morning :D

  • @1349 i guess you havent tried all week to get a code then huh… ?

i lost all hope and im sick of this

  • jeff said it was 430 when he posted his update and told us 2 hours which would be 630PST

  • Think you meant @1351 digital108 lol.

  • The going backwars through the email thing is inaccurate because I’ve confirmed with a coworker who sent his one minute after mine that he received his well over 2 hours ago now.

Bummer dudes, it’s looking MIGHTY grim.

  • @1360

That was PST, not EST. Its well past the time…

  • i’m starting to hate jeff and team because what has happened with many of us in NOT FAIR and is pure INJUSTICE.

  • @1366 idk lol im getting tired and pissed off over this whole situation it’s absolute BS man… :/

  • I’m 100% on the side of Jeff/Sony/whoever. Nothing was promised. Nothing was guaranteed. It was a chance. Send in an email and you have a chance. The dude was even awesome enough to post two updates, including the times when the emails were sent out! Who else would care enough to do that? Some of the complainers are being rude and obnoxious and insisting they’re been betrayed or deceived! That is outrageous!

I DIDN’T get a Beta key and my response to what happened tonight is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the chance and the outstanding communication given to all of us.

  • I don’t know if I’d call it “injustice”. It sucks a little since most of us have been chomping at the bit all week.

But injustice? You guys are funny.

  • So I got a beta key, but when I enter it I get an error saying that it’s invalid? Whats up with that?

  • Maybe, It will still come. I have to get to bed got work in the morning. If not, oh well. I never was that stoked about this. I just wanted to see what all the hype was about. I got better games to worry about like Fallout 3 and Guitar Hero: World Tour

  • Apparently, “first come, first serve” meant wait a half hour and then email me.

I guess I just didn’t understand the ambiguity of Jeff’s statement. Kinda like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich could mean ham sandwich.

    Or headcheese. I guess.

  • Completely off topic , but how do I change my avatar?

  • to 1371 im with u if it hapens it does if not screw it it aint no ones fault you guys just want someone to blame cuz u dident get a code

  • I was checking websites on my iPhone as I was leaving work and saw the beta keys were being distributed here. E-Mail was sent at 4:08PM through my gmail account. I wasn’t expecting a key because it was sent quite a while afterwards; but it’s pretty awkward seeing people who post within the first 5 minutes never obtaining a key but then there’s people receiving a key who sent their e-mail well after mine.

  • @1375

Lol that is appearently what it looks like

  • @1371
well he did say this “So ask away, send an email to playstationbloglbp2000@gmail.com and we’ll get them out to you.”

I don’t know about you but we’ll get them out to you doesn’t sound like you’ll have a chance to win one

  • right on juggalo! lets split a faygo and watch this black sand storm.

  • im with ya

  • 1377. How can you argue with the fact that he actually said “first come, first serve” and it didnt happen?

  • Duuude I sent my mail at 7 pm U_U i don’t think I’m gonna make it

  • @1384
well i sent mine at 12:45, so you probably have more of a chance than me

  • 130 don’t take that out of context. he said straight up “we should have a bit more than 50 to give away”. If that’s 100, 1,000, we don’t know. The point is, he/they didn’t HAVE to give out any at all!

  • 1384 you might make it…its only the people that posted in the first 30 minutes that got screwed……..

  • @1388 like me :(

  • 1386 a believe what he said was Now we’ve got *a lot* of beta keys to give away

  • Yeah, “outstanding communication” what a crock. Jeff said in his post if you bothered to read it says “So ask away, send an email to playstationbloglbp2000@gmail.com and we’ll get them out to you.” He said nothing in that post about a chance. He said you ask and you get one. Plain and simple. He then replied to a poster on page 2 of this thread stating that the codes were on a “first come, first serve” basis. So you tell me how someone sends an email hours later than me gets a code. How is that fair? Anyway I’m done. I wonder how much the trade-in is for the PS3. Good night ppl. See ya guys….never. Back to my trusty 360.

  • @1372

yes, it is injustice. we are their customers, and they can’t even stay true to their words of ‘first come first serve’ ?? and moreover, i’m sick of this whole “BETA” thing. why not release it for everyone as a demo just 2 weeks before the game ?? and have the beta thing going on before that, but everyone should have a chance to play it before the full game comes out. If they didn’t want people to keep playing the demo after the game was released, they could have added a digital signature that won’t let you play after the full release. In short, everyone deserves to get the demo or beta. Also, for games featuring multiplayer components, we should have a demo like “battlefield:bad company” with one multiplayer map. No demo for socom or resistance as well, only beta’s for which you have to pay in some way or the other before you buy the game (pre-order or qore). THIS IS JUST NOT FAIR. Many people including me have been trying hard to get a LBP key but finding no luck, and had high hopes with this one, but at the end..WE ARE DISAPPOINTED and nobody gives a sh*t about it.

  • I sent my email at exactly 12:33pm (PST) and was 4th posted on this thread… and nothing.

I’m hoping it’s some gmail to hotmail conflict, but if that isn’t the case… I seriously question their ‘first come – first serve’ policy or method.

I’ve set my email to auto-refresh every few minutes, so for now I’ll distract myself with some Burnout.

  • I’d just like to point out that I’m thankful they did this, I just think they had a little error and hope it will be resolved. I don’t want them to think I’m some rude guy that’s just upset I didn’t get a key. Because honestly, who would want to help that type of person?

  • Of course if they don’t resolve it and give us our rightful keys, then we’re gonna brawl.

  • I got my 60 GiG on December 14, 2006.. I also waited in many lines and then on a friday night i walked into a local GameStop and it was packed. I had an xbox i just purchased from a store near the GameStop and I went there to get a few games.. I noticed the PS3 sitting all by itself on the shelf and asked the manager if that was a real PS3 or just a display. he said it was real…

So i ran across traffic with an xbox360 in a plastic bag(with an extra controller) back to the store I got it from and returned it. Ran back to the GameStop and bought my 60 GiG
along with Resistance Fall of Man..

As you can probably agree it has not been all smooth sailing since then.. There were a lot of hick-ups along the way but I stuck with SONY and this PS3 and I plan on sticking with them now.

I actually now own 2 PS3’s because My blu-ray drive on my 60 gig stopped reading blu-rays because of dust on the lens about a month and a half after my warranty ran out. So I bought another PS3 not even a week later instead of paying 150 bucks to get it fixed.
I was told that the problems I was having may be cleared up by using a blu-ray lens cleaner that was soon to be released.. Well soon to be released ended up being MAY, 08.. Still stuck by SONY though…

I have gotten used to being let down by this them and I am not going anywhere.. some feed back on how the process is going right now would be nice though. That really is all I ask for. Open lines of communication between Provider and your BASE.
That is what your launch customers are SONY. YOUR BASE.
without us to buy those systems They would have sat on the shelves in ’06.. We bought many of them in that small time and were promised many things from day one..
I am not going to bring up all of the sore spots and old wounds that really do need to be patched and forgotten about. Things like this don’t help though.

Just remember YOUR BASE. Without us you wouldn’t have people who can stop saying great things about your console to our friends and family in the market for a gaming console or HD movie player. We will stand by you like family but you leave us in the cold rain to shiver all night… WHY?

  • 1391 he said “we should have a bit more than 50 to give away”. but you and a few others skip over that because it deflates your complaint bubble.

  • Thought I’d contribute instead of just lurking. I sent my email at 1:12 PST, and haven’t gotten a code (yet). I think it may just be taking a while to get them all out. My main reason for posting though is to dispel the “everyone after 1:00 got theirs” myth. I think people from all times are still missing keys. And keep in mind also, if someone sent an email at 12:35 or whatever, and got their key, they’re not going to be here reassuring us. They’re playing LBP now. Keep up hope!

  • Wow, that looked really corlorful and vibrant!
Man, I can’t wait to play this game! It might be the first brand-new game I’ll buy in a loooong time.

  • 1397

im pretty sure that was supossed to be a sarcastic understatement.

  • Yea, cause I sent my email at 12:35 and I am sooooo busy right now playing the game. :(

  • i sent my mail at 12:40… and i didn’t get a key, i think this is the end guys

  • @1398

I’ve lost hope. I should have won 3 keys by this point and I am empty handed still. It just sucks =(

  • i hate when things i enter require luck because im probly the most unlucky person especially with this beta business, but llook on the bright side, we got wat like not even 20 days till it comes out, so i say live every second of your life…until you get the actual game and then let it consume your life…
