Big news today… our eagerly anticipated (I hope) patch to add Trophy support to Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has officially been released in Europe and North America. For those of you at home keeping score, there’s a total of 48 Trophies, counting the Platinum Trophy.
As we were working to get this patch out the door, I was chatting to various people on the team here at Naughty Dog to get some details on our process. It was easy to tell that everyone is quite proud to have Uncharted be the first and, for the time being, only game where you can receive a Platinum Trophy. Sitting down with Travis McIntosh, our Lead Programmer, I learned that implementing Trophies in Uncharted was a relatively simple task because we had to medal reward system to leverage. He said that since we had medals built into the existing game, the programming team could just tie the existing 47 medals into the Trophy award requirements. Choosing 47 medals during our initial development worked better than imagined because the 47 Trophies, with the appropriate point values for Bronze, Silver and Gold Trophies, perfectly equaled the maximum number of trophies that can be awarded.
Since medals and Trophies are essentially the same, anyone who has played Uncharted already knows what they have to do to get any one Trophy. If you’re a better gamer than I am and worked to get all the medals before, then you already know what all of the hidden Trophies are.
Once you’re playing the game, it will be pretty obvious when you get a Trophy. Once you trigger the award, you will get the familiar indication that you’ve been awarded a medal and then a couple seconds after that you’ll see the standard PS3 Trophy pop-up. Screenshots of this in action, along with examples of what our Trophies look like in-game and in the XMB, are on IGN.
One thing everyone should note, as our co-president Evan Wells told Joystiq during E3, is that we weren’t able to award Trophies retroactively through this patch. This was done so that everyone receives their Trophies fairly and can’t take advantage of the game saves we’ve seen floating around. That means you will have to start a brand new game—without any medals or rewards unlocked—and play through Uncharted to get Trophies.
So, if you haven’t picked up Uncharted yet, this should be another reason to do so… you know, beyond our amazing fortune hunting storyline, awesome graphics, solid gameplay and half-tucked shirts that are already in our favor.

When this patch was release I didn’t really feel like going back and re-doing all rewards just for trophies, anyway I decided to get just a few to start off with and now I’ve nearly got the platinum already. I forgot how addictive this game can be :)
Excellent work Naughty Dogs!! Uncharted is surely a game the fits for excellent summmer gaming sessions.
But please, I’m begging you, release the patch for the Asian version. R3 games are not supported, even though the game is fully in English with english subtitles. It really is a region-free gaming world after all.

I downloaded the patch yesterday, played for about an hour and a half and unlocked some trophies. I started up later and continued my game, and unlocked a couple more.. 30 headshots and 15 trophies, but they’re no longer unlocking the trophy. I’m unlocking the medals, just not the trophies anymore. I’m playing hard, but I cleared out all my medals and overwrote a save when I started.
I’ve tried restarting and logging out and refreshing my trophy list… nothing. Any ideas to help?
Arne Meyer. Kudos to Naughty Dog for having the foresight to put in a ‘medal system’ into the game, and patching it way after the game has been released. You will get a lot of customer loyalty for this. Deservedly.
Uncharted is a beautiful game. I demoed it to a mate last week and he loved it so much he is gonna buy a PS3 to play it on!

I’ve experienced the exact same thing. I unlocked 8 trophies last night but suddenly it didn’t register my trophies. I found 15 treasures, killed 20 with brutal combo and found the Strange Relic, but nothing happened!

If I beat the game on Crushing, do I get the trophies for beating the game on Hard, Normal, and Easy as well?

I was waiting to rent this game until the trophies were implemented. I’m excited now to get that opportunity.
I want to buy, but it will have to wait. I already am having a hard time deciding what games to buy since the greatest hits line has been introduced. Maybe I will throw this one on this list for possible purchases?
Then again, this is such a great game that I can be pretty sure that it will be a greatest hit some time next year. I could wait to get it then?

Hooray! Thanks a ton guys. This is one of my favorite titles for my ps3 and it gives me yet another reason to play through it again. Naughty Dog is awesome. Can’t wait for Uncharted 2!!!
I think that would make anyone jump up and down joyful. I am now thinking if I should buy it for the trophies. And if I may make a suggestion, add trophies to Call of Duty 4 PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! (or at least Rainbow Six Vegas2)

Could I request a clarification?
It’s been said elsewhere that all the trophies cannot be earned in one play-through.
But when I start a “new” game, I am still given the option to play on “Crushing”. I’m doing that now, without carrying over any medals or points, and am steadily earning trophies.
So, if Crushing is unlocked, can you play a single Crushing game from scratch (i.e. no medals/pts) and earn all trophies through one playthrough?
I played through the game almost twice when it was released and I never had any problems with the game.
But after the patch, the game is constantly locking up on me.
Right now I’m making my way to the U-boat, but I can’t make it there because it’s locked up five times already.
What gives?

read the comments, a few people (including myself) already said that the completion trophies are awarded where you get all the trophies up to the difficulty you played at. i can verify this as i finished normal last night and got my easy trophy as well.

This is rediculous….I really want this game but $60 is outrageous for a game that is this old….I mean get with the program this game is as old as the hills, it was already three monthes old when I got my ps3 6 monthes ago….rediculous…dont expect me to buy it until you drop the price..dont expect trophies to warrent a purchase of this game at the same price as a new release….you have to be mad to expect that..

But it feels really sad, I bought the same game and paid the same price as people in US and EU, but why I got less? I understand, there may be some delay for some regions, so just please announce the date of patch or just give ANY comment (but please just DO NOT say that there will be no patch for Asian version).

i have start a new game ( to activate the trophies)
i am now in the middle of the game,but
suddenly i cant not get no more trophies. I have caught the 55 treasure and the the Crack Fortune Hunter trophie didn´t appear. Only the medal!!!!
is this a bug???? Can someone help? i didnt want to star all over again :(

wow you’re really not much of a gamer then, just because the game is old doesn’t make it any less worth what it is. hell half the games i have or wish i could have i’d easily pay the full price or even more to have =\ also now that this game has trophies everyone is loving over it, sigh i really hate what achievements and trophies has done to games now..i understand it adds re-playability but jeez, people become obsses with having trophies and such is just too much. i mean i already have the game, it was one of the first i bought for my ps3 and i loved it, so i’ll definitely play it again =D

Apparently you’re not the only one who’s unfortunate. When I shut my game down and started playing again, it also stopped giving me trophies.

Naughty Dog people… go speak to the Insomniac people and tell them to give us trophies! It worked easy enough for you guys… the devs at insomniac are too awesome to not give us trophies…

i have done a test…. it appears that when you made a save and load the same one, the trophies will be deactivate(you can see that in the list of medals on the game and if appears a trophie icon in gray on the lower bottom left of the screen)
