Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!
@748, don’t freak out.
gosh
Is there any way to make updates update your PS3 when you are not on. I leave my PS3 in stand by mode all the time and would love to be able to get an update without having to press the update button. I think would be a great firmware feature to add. I so would love to turn on auto download firmware.
@ fredbob3 749 lol like i said there going to ether dely home of take it down like they did to the 2.4 update .
Yo TouchyEd your an absolute dumbass I just needed to reply to your brainwashed talk the fact is there is no law requiring anyone to pay an income tax the government wants you to beleive theres a law but in fact its not there its against the constitution to pay an income tax. The IRS uses fear and political propaganda to illeagally steal our money right before we even get it. If you dont beleive me look it up or just watch a video on youtube freedom to facism is the title and your truth id advise everyony else to watch it also if u dont beleive me. PCE

I was playing MGO and wanted to invite a friend as a PSN buddy…. I pressed the button and ……………… well it didn’t bring up the XMB screen but the bloody black screen we all know and hate. Seriously before this 2.41 update I could do that. In game XMB works on everything else even the menu screen for MGO just not while playing MGO???????? was it because I was hosting??? I don’t know…. but still………… out of all the games the one with the konami ID??
@ fredbob3
Go ahead and tell me you wouldn’t freak out when you’re expected to demo a new video system using your PS3 tomorrow morning.
Any ideas on how to bring it back to life would be much appreciated.
So I downloaded it and it works but for some reason the music wont play when I’m ingame. point being I cant play my music. :/
by the way.. love the new option to shut down your ps3 when the updates done…. bravo!
Hey Eric,
Thanks a lot!
I would love to see an instant messenger feature in later updates.
Peace.

You’re an idiot if you believe those websites.
Google the following:
“The Truth About Frivolous Tax Arguments”
And check out the ACTUAL laws as enforced by the IRS.
We’re demoing a new LED light wall tomorrow. I’m responsible for the audio part of the demo but we were going to use my PS3.
95JettaCity….wow…..sorry for the bad luck.

my comments aren’t coming through
pain in the ass
Lot of new friends are asking me what Folding@Home is.
dl.tv has a good explanation and a team id if you want to join them.
“Robert, for example, is very serious about Stanford’s Folding@Home (FAH) project, a worldwide distributed computing project working to map out the process of protein folding.
Why do you care? Per the Folding@Home page, “when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. “misfold”), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.”
Robert’s rallied thousands of DL.TV viewers to download the Folding@Home software and join in.
You can, too.
Just download and install the Folding@Home software and let it run when you’re not using your Mac, PC, PS3 or Linux machine. We track the stats regularly on the show.”
Thanks a lot!
Sorry if it’s out of line for this blog….but I easier here than texting to all these people on the PS3….I don’t yet have a keyboard there.
whatev dude
This is really crazy, I have been waiting for the system update page to get 2.41 to DL since the SUPPORT page has it listed as ready for DL. For those that don’t have in ISP/internet connection this is really frustrating!!! Someone named LEAH sent it to a member of PSU and I got it that way but for SONY to not have it available for non-internet enabled users is just plain maddening…I have been f-5ing the page all day since I got up at around 9am this morning.
@773….seems to normally take a day or two before it shows up on their website.
95JettaCity just format your hard drive put it back in install everything over again.
My firmware 2.41 works theoretically well, while i’m in the game i can bring the xmb up but when i try to play musics it says “music content cannot be played during the use of this game”
I just got a bad luck or what? i was really waiting for being able to play music while i’m playing 0_o
or this feature of playing music while in the game is missing in my 2.41?
What about all the people who had their PS3 bricked due to this and now Sony is charging them to wipe the hard drive. Shouldn’t Sony offer this fix for free?
@776 it’s a feature you can only use when the game supports it…
@776….SSHD, High vel Bowling and Pain I think are the only games you can use in game music with for now…more to come as devs use that feature.
@777 step 1 buy an enclosure for 2.5″ HDD’s step 2 take out HDD from ps3 step3 plug it into your pc and format the sucker… step 4 get the hdd out of the enclosure and put it back into your ps3.
seriously even a child could do this.
ah ok…. i understand it now ehhehe
well, i’ll wait then rsrs
@777 and if you got SATA connections in your pc you don’t even need to buy an enclosure… just plug it in and format… piece of cake.
@755: If you need to bring up the in-game XMB in Metal Gear Online, remove the keyboard. It seems like USB Keyboards interfere with in-game XMB while in Metal Gear Online. Not sure about BlueTooth Keyboards. Anyway, screw the keyboard, everyone, BUY SOME DAMN HEADSETS AND STOP BEING MUTE!
By the way, I’ve noticed that the in-game XMB is a lot faster in loading icons, and browsing in general. Nice touch Sony :) The new Trophy for Platinum is way better.
@783…thks for the answer…I’ve seen so many people posting about that problem and now it seems we have the answer…great !
@754
thanks for the back up, how ever it came
you guys should try other sources beside the internet… i have done this for myself… have you touchyED? i hope so. i never attacked your opinion either so quit getting all high and mighty.
many things have changed in the laws since the movie link i posted. although it arises some good questions to find the truth.
we’ve proved everything from the past.. why not the now??? if we can understand dinosaur’s bones and figure out how old they are… that the greeks believed in “false” gods… why not that our contry sucks??? or that the law are not really there if you look??? maybe they are. it’s just like all the people claiming the problems they have with their ps3’s. maybe they did something wrong they didn’t know about..???
your a person that wants control… you will not have it
yea i have had no proablems too, but i hope this just improves stability
Back to school DamnKlown, and leave this blog alone. Nobody wants to talk about a bunch of hill-billies who are too cheap to pay their income tax.
Let’s talk about the PS3.
Has anyone else experienced any performance increase (in-game XMB) with 2.41 over 2.40?
@ 776 don’t expect custom soundtracks for a LONG time, I doubt we’ll ever have it actually. I’ve resorted to putting a stereo next to my ps3
@754
Learn how to spell country before trying to talk about one.
@788
Yes TouchyEd, it seems like the in game XMB doesn’t lag as much as it use to when i had 2.40.
TouchEd…..I had both 2.40 and 2.41 and both are running fine, no lagging at all.
I’m out of province at the moment, so I won’t have the chance to try the new 2.41 for a few days. I wasn’t thrilled with the performance of 2.40, but I’m glad to hear that some improvements are noticeable.
Did they move the location of the clock? (A minor gripe, yes, but one that I really hope gets fixed — if it hasn’t been already). I know it sounds crazy, but I’m constantly checking the time when I’m playing my PS3. And I’d really like to be able to quickly toggle the XMB on and off without having to wait 3 seconds each time.
I know it’s a minor thing to complain about, but I also know it’s a minor thing to fix.
Clock is still the same.
my comment 766, is the link to ps3 update v2.41 on ur pc. just incase someone has a ps3 not hooked up to the internet.
GGCAN,
XMB lags considerably while playing Metal Gear Solid…and while playing Warhawk (the only two games I’m really playing at the moment)…but it doesn’t with a couple other games. So it definitely lags…just not all the time.
@793
no they didnt
‘i have that same problem also
i need to check the time constantly when i play PS3
TouchyEd…ok…don’t have that one yet….so wasn’t aware….everything else seems fine.
Got Warhawk, but have to play a lot more….get killed on that one all the time.
Anyway, I gotta go prepare for a lecture, so adios for today!!
