As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.

Fatal Inertia was released a week or two ago in the US, hence people already having played it. It’s coming to UK(/EU?) 7/15. Gotta love localization!

Hallo peoples. The thread is still going strong I see! I thought I’d just throw into the mix that I have tried absolutely everything on 2.40 now and not a single glitch. Although, to be fair, it didn’t like it much when I got Rickrolled… I stand by my theory that there isn’t a damn thing wrong with the update at all. Server issues I’m sure of it.
@2260 I still think PS3 is the best, but then again I got the 2.40 patch and the Super Stardust 4.00 patch.
It will come don’t worry…it really hasn’t been all that long and Sony is protecting those that may still be affected…even if it’s a minor number now.

I really do feel bad for those that were affected or don’t have the patch…but be a little patient.

you have ps2 games or a bluetooth headset? try playing with that stuff, you’ll get crashes, they’re there

dont think it was a server problem with the issues im having, i downloaded it on pc fine, downloaded it 3 times to make sure file sizes and crc matched and they did, then updated the ps3, all rebooted fine, its just afterwards noticing lags on games, bluetooth headset not working, controllers randomly not registering, constant dropping network connection with wired connection, still dropping network connection with wireless but not as much. and internet browser not working, also streaming video from tversity is now very stuttery.
Hope sony get it sorted soon, sure they are working hard on it.

I noticed the controller not registering problem before the update, maybe it happens if your neighbor has a ps3 or something, just plug it into the system or use it to turn on the system to rememdy that problem

Well that kills my theory a bit – soooo I don’t like it :P If I’m not right then god knows what’s wrong. Well, I just tried PS2 games – a couple of different ones – and they were fine. I can’t test bluetooth though, I haven’t got one of those!

Although ironically the server that the blog is on seems to be getting a bit crap today – this is sloooooow haha.
Plasticmouse….I think that’s why Sony may be taking a bit with an update….some people are just fine, others have some problems.
I’m sure glad I’m not analyzing what went wrong and it’s Sony who is.

Instead of thinking that you don’t have 2.40 yet, think of 2.40 hasn’t come out yet.
It was merely “leaked” on July 2nd. And it wasn’t stable, so you are really better off without it.
For those who have 2.40 (Non-bricked):
Instead of thinking you have a buggy 2.40, think of yourself as being a Beta Tester for Sony. Oh such a privelege!
For those who have 2.40 (Bricked):
Instead of thinking that you have a brick, think of it as a glossy table ornament. Plug it in and it can soften your butter too. Watch out for those greasy fingers!

Yep and hearing how the Firefox release 3 went a while back I think their site crashed as they had too many people coming for the update all at once.

apparently they took 4.00 Team pack for SSHD offline when 2.40 was taken off.
I got the patch at the same time as 2.40 and I must say it’s impressive.
Heard 2.41 is coming mid week…so Sony is working on it…
