As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
SSHD is really addicting…all the add ons make it just a bit better each time.
The last one on the game, the Team one will give you Split screen and ship customization and a few other items.
It loaded just fine with no complications, the new interface is a definite improvement but I’ve noticed it freezing up (video) where it never has done that in the past.
I’m sure i’ll end up buying it when they put the patched version for trophy’s back up
Sancho45…yep a good deal.
Even before the trophies…they have a chart on the game right now.
When you finish a game it will rate you among anyone who has ever played on the game.
It shows scores and most of the players have their countries flags as icons beside their names and scores. Some people must not do much else but play SSHD or be professionals…I can’t get over some of the high scores.
So it’s still got a bit of a trophy feature, but if you get a high score without the trophy add on, it won’t show up when you do get the final patch.
You could just pratice for now…but I understand many people want the trophy add on too.
Give me a site of internet that i can use to do download the firmware!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or at least tell my something!!
@2046 (JayPR) on page 36 of this blog the site is mentioned there…. a couple of guys tried it and others as well and seems to work.
But remember, you’re chancing it with this one and most likely best to wait for Sony to release it.
If you haven’t got that patience, it’s up to you to grab it from the site that’s mentioned.
Many here have done that and are happy.
Just remember though the trophies won’t be there even if you get the patch.
ggcan i still dont know if i shud put fw 2.40 on the ps3 or not what do u guys think should i are no
jaypr try that site thats were u uploaded mines fw 2.40 from but i havent put it on my ps3 yet http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323204
mattmac510…I know how you feel..really hard to decide.
I got the 2.40 officially from the Sony download and I don’t think I would try the other way if I didn’t, just in case you break the PS3…remember…that one doesn’t come from Sony exactly.
But like I mentioned…many have gotten it that way and are ok.
As mentioned before…you still won’t have the trophies as that is only in Super Stardust right now and there is another patch with Super Stardust called 4.0 that isn’t up now either….
If you have High Velocity Bowling, Pain or Super Stardust HD, you can try in game music by hitting the Select button on the PS3 controller to pick your own HDD music in the game…that worked before the 2.40 patch.
Up to you, I don’t want to lean you one way or the other….
Yeah…i just bought SSHD and Pain for the trophies then got all of them…I have 2.4, but trophy patches were taken down before I bought the games, and nw I have to finish them again. :P
My PSN id is “miquonranger03” also, in case anybody’s interested.
It worked out pretty well for me so far but it’s like they say, you have to decide for yourself if it’s worth it or not.
miquonranger03 added you….one thing…SSHD has trophies when the 4.00 patch is back up…but Pain as far as I know doesn’t have them yet…it does have in game music though.
@2049, if it helps you at all, it seems people have figured out how to fix consoles after they brick without sending them in. If it bricks, you take out the HD, start the system up, put the drive back in, and then it automatically prompts you to format and start over. If you back up your data ahead of time just in case it does go down, you may still be ok trying it. Granted, this information came from several people that had their systems drop, and they say it works, but I have not tried it or seen it done myself.
Also, while I am one of the people that succesfully patched my system via a PC after Sony pulled the firmware, I still can’t say I’d recommend it. I got lucky, but you might not be.
but i have a warinty on da ps3 so if it bricks or what ever u call it u think ill get a new one?
how do u take the hd out
it’s in the manual, there’s a slot on the bottom
2055, maybe… but if Sony has a way of telling where the patch came from, you might not be covered.
ok ty
Seeing as how everyone is being so friendly again today (I love this place), I’m going to throw my ID out there again and invite any and all to add me. Echo307.
I agree with you Echo…made a bunch of friends just this weekend from here.
I think we have a great game and message board going and it only seems to get better.
Just want Sony to put that friends list into a separate icon like they did with the games after the 2.40 patch…makes it so much more organized.
echo lol i think i already added u but if i ididnt add me mattfmac4200
Hey mattmac510…I posted a website on here (it’s going to take a while I’ve noticed to post with the website)…but it will show you how to upsize your HDD if you want…shows how to replace it as well.
Great to know if you want to have more GB with all the stuff we’re downloading now.
It’s at CNET.com…search for article….Upsize your PS3 harddrive in Tips and Tricks. It will post on the blog, but since it’s a URL…I’ve noticed some take time to post.
i have a 40gb itll upsize it to 60?
It can go to whatever 2.5 disc size is available…I’ve seen people saying they’ve replaced with 250 GB and more onto their PS3s.
Sorry it takes so long for that website to show in this blog, but I think Sony may screen some of those first.
When the internet address does come up, check it out…it’s not really that difficult.
By the way…just added you to my friends list.
man i want to mod my ps3 controller lol flashing ps button thats cool
Ok, until it does post..found out it’s asia.cnet.com and it’s under Digital Living…article ‘how to upsize your PS3 harddrive’.
ok im going to check it out right now
thanks
were does it say how to upsize your ps3 haddrive?
It’s harder to find with out the link that I’m trying to get on this blog.
But,,,,go to asia.cnet.com, click on the tab at the top called Digital Living….
In the search panel (top right hand corner) enter the word upsize and click GO.
It should be the 1st article that the search brings up.
ooh ok thanks again
any 2.5 inch SATA drive should work correct?
There are some reasonably priced ones out there if you shop around.
Yep and Sony made it so we can upsize which is great.
I have an 80 GB and I’m down to 48 GB just from Nov last year…so I’m going to be upsizing soon too.
W^ BACK AGAIN
Per that article:
“The PS3 is compatible with just about any 2.5-inch SATA notebook harddisk. The physical size of the harddisk is important because it has to fit the PS3’s 2.5-inch drive tray. As far as storage capacity goes, it doesn’t make sense to go through the trouble of upgrading unless you go big: We’re talking 120GB, 160GB, or even 250GB.”
they need to put SSHD back up theres nothing wrong with the damn update,,just put ssdhd update 4.00 back up allready
750gb
eye know of one who has 350gb n-e-way
For sure….with this being an upcoming Entertainment system, people are really gonna start downloading a bunch of stuff.
This bigger the better…just have to get those guys to build the bigger harddrives and make sure you format it properly…but that’s all described at that site of how to do it.
The sky is the limit. You can take the drive out of your PS3. It is a 5400rpm laptop style hard drive. You can attach this to your PC using a USB external drive enclosure, and tranfer all of the data to another laptop drive. Make sure you stick with a 5400rpm drive, since the 7200rpm drive are louder, faster and run hotter. You can use the 7200rpm drive, but get an after market fan to assist in cooling. I have put in a 320gb drive in my PS3 and it works great. External drives are nice, but why have thing dangeling when you do not need to??
yeah, sony was on the ball with that one i must say.
plus I was just checking out that new thing that has the extra usb, memory card slots that the 40GB is missing.
they made a really good system, what eye wish was that the psn was a higher speed maybe lets say 5 or 12 mbps
Hey guys Im not sure if this is because of 2.40 but it seems now when im playing a game or even watching a movie the fan kicks in right away. Befor it would turn off after about 15-20 minuts maybe less but now its on untill I turn the PS3 off.
Any suggestions?
which it will nvr be
clean it with a vaccum and unplug it for a min see if it helps just my opinion
I have a question for you guys, I have a wireless keyboard for my MAC, made by apple and I also have the wireless mighty mouse. When i tried linking them with my ps3 I kept getting an error code. Both are Bluetooth any idea what I’m doin wrong?
@2086 yah not sure why…mine is running just like before and it really hasn’t been off except for maybe a couple of minutes pretty much all this month.
Make sure you have it in a well ventilated spot…nothing blocking up the air hole escapes.
