  • an alright update
question: is it true that our friends list limitation from 50 friends has increased now?
    and whats the new limit?

  • I was wondering if any one at Sony has any plans on having a Community calendar on the US.playstation.com site because there is one for Australia on the AU.playstation.com site.

Also any chance that if it comes out in the US it could also work on PSN. I think having a Community calendar that works on PSN would be pretty cool.

Plus over at reelgamers they have a nice idea for a game it is like Super Smash Brothers only it would be with playstation characters. It got be thinking that would be a really cool game.

But I also have an idea for it instead of having the characters be there normal self they could be sackboys instead.

Seeing as in LBP there is the Sackboys from Killzone. I thought why not make every one else a sackboy in the game think about the cool fights between Sackboy Kratos and Sackboy vib-ribbon or may a fight with Sackboy Arc from Arc the lad.

I think Super Sackboy Smash would be really cool. The game could be T and the game would be for both casuals and hardcore gamers.

So I for one would love to see this game get made.

    http://reelgamers.com/games/smash.html

  • @ 99

The new limit is 100 if I am thinking correctly.

  • I really see no point in complaining to Sony about the lack of PS1 games since I doubt we will ever get the entire PS1 library or at a game a week like Japan does. Whatever Sony puts on PSN every Thursday is fine by me and others should just accept it. I do admit that I bought a PSP Slim to play PS1 games since Sony promised almost 5-7 being released but hasn’t lived up to that promised. I have heard about licensing issues and renewing rights to certain games plus regions getting certain games while others don’t and it really seems that there is a ton of work just to get a least one PS1 released on PSN.

  • @80

U keep buying their load of crap there is no reason why there isnt more than 22 ps1 games on our NA store if they started working on this problem over a year ago there would be some results, they would have it resolved by now if they actually did something about it.DONT CALL ME OUT WIYH YOUR NO NONSENSE BULLCRAP YOU SOUND LIKE YOUR MAKING EXCUSES FOR THESES PEOPLE WHO ARE GIVING ABSOLUTLY BULLCRAP REASONS FOR NOT HAVING PS1 GAMES.

  • The only reason I can think that defends having next to no PS1 games on PSN is that Sony doesn’t have the rights to put them up there, and they’d have to go out and get them. For game published by Sony in America, we should see those up there. *Points to FFVII*

  • Not a bad update Sony, keep it up.

I think people should be grateful for the things we’re getting on the PS3 so far instead of complaining every five seconds. I want to see some classic PS1 games as well but I think it was explained why there’s an issue bringing them here.

  • Lots of content. All good with me!

  • Always good to have demos.

  • thx for my reply at 99
here another question and obviously you dont need to answer this and it concerns 2.40 video walkthrough
I heard that it going to be posted on the 30th of this month s that true?
and also if dont wnat to answer taht could you at least tell us the progress of the video?
    thx

  • Good update, thanks.

  • Noel Silvia

And to clarify to you, the PSP game is the original Playstation game with nearly no new features, and none of them are anything worth getting the PSP title over the original Playstation title over if you’ve played the original.

    • Actually, the PSP remake includes multiplayer modes not found in the original as well as re-done graphics, additional levels, and tweaked levels.
I was actually a tester on the original MediEvil, so I\’m way more familiar with that game than I should be. ;-)
Hope this helps explain some of the differences!

  • I enjoyed PAIN quite a bit more than I expected, but this constant “pay for characters” is getting old. How about a new level? One was advertised in the game at one point, but I haven’t heard jack.

  • Twisted Metal, Tekken, Spyro, Jet Moto, and Crash definitely don’t cover all the bases regarding PS1 classics.

The JP PSN is doing a decent job. I mean Xenogears is there to apparently combat the lack of JRPGs. Resident Evil (Biohazard) is there. MGS is over there. MGS could have been over here before MGS4 was released and probably would have been a top download just like it is on Japan PS Store.

I mean the demand there. Its just as prevalent as In-Game XMB and the Store revamp. Constant comments about it. More of an effort will have to be made eventually despite whatever issues keep those popular games from being offered.

  • Wack!!! Y’ll know what we want, 2.40

  • @ Noel Silvia : thanks for always making an effort to address the concerns of the faithful – you fully rock!

  • Im Downloading

  • I’d just like to understand how this is a good update.. Add-on content for rockband and guitar hero, along with game add-on content, demos, movies, and trailers are all spoon fed to the sony people by the game producers and developers. All the playstation store staff has to do is compile and package them for download.

The problem is that the people who do the store updates and make these blog posts are probably not the same people who deal with publishers to release purchasable ps3, psp, and ps1 classics. Apparently the outcry for these types of content are not getting to the appropriate channels.

By the way, I can order Medievil Ressurection from a number of online stores for the same price and get the packaging along with the UMD (meaning it doesn’t have to take up space on a memory card). How is this type of purchasable content even considered worthwhile content?

It’s sickening that each and every week hundreds of people comment on these posts, (meaning probably thousands or tens of thousands probably feel the same way) and demand that Sony give us a product to buy and all of the desire seems to fall on deaf ears. That’s not only stupid for Sony, it’s bad business.

  • As always, I’m amazed by the forbearance Noel and others display in the face of venom dripping from the fangs of Internet jerks.

And hey, reasonably solid update, too

  • Thanks for all you guys do and to Noel for taking the time to respond to the public. Not too many billion dollar companies that I know of are this interactive with customers.

One question though; Is the upcoming video store for PSN for Canada aswell as the US?

  • @tandyman

dude get used to it….thats just the way its been since PS3 launched…Its like feeding a poor Ethiopian a grain of rice a week…truly sad but apparently SONY’s Public Relations dept can give a rats ass what a REAL consumer wants

  • thanks for the themes… I hate game related themes so every non game related is very welcome… the next one make it with sounds ok? looking for the blu-ray one… don’t fail on me.

    Good update BTW…

  • and just to clarify thats all this BLOG is, is a PR gimmick…an avenue to hype up games and features beyond belief so when finally released its a let down….they shoot themselves in the foot quite often

  • The older map packs have to start being free. I find getting games on older maps hard. My money should not go down the crapper. I prefer to kill noobs and reinvigorate older games.
Let the game decide when it’s time is up. Not some stupid 5-10 dollars for the 5 new people that now have no one to play.
    Stop penny pinching.

  • @53 Response
I find it extremely ridiculous for YOU, Noel Silvia to stick to your “distribution rights” excuse this long. Yea I agree that may be one of the hurdles to getting PS1 games on the U.S. PSN but my question is this… SHOULDNT THERE BE A DEDICATED TEAM AT SCEA TO TAKE CARE WHATEVER HURDLES, OBJECTIONS, LEGAL ISSUES TO GETTING THESE GAMES UP THERE?? No seriously I know the PS3 to date is not profitable yet, but has SONY run into some type of financial hardship that they cannot afford a DEDICATED TEAM to please theyr userbase?? You do realize the PS3 or other SONY branded product is nothing withou us… right? Just like they have dedicated teams for everything else, like running this blog for example is the KEY to getting this problem taking care of.. doesnt everyone agree?? And if this “TEAM” does exist, each and every one of them should be terminated for such incompetence/lack of production because the selection of PS1 games is absolutely horrible to say the least. Before I end my rant……

    @107’s response…
Question: is it true that on the 30th there would be a video walkthrough for a feature in 2.40.
Answer: Unless you read about it right here on the official blog, consider what you hear a rumour.

Well no kidding sherlock… Why even bother posting responses if theyre going to be so vague? If it isnt true, just kill the rumor right then and there… that would be official. I dont understand the secrecy to every little thing that SONY does. Wasnt this the point to this blog? To share up and coming games, news, ideas? Everytime NOEL posts a response I feel like hes insulting our intelligence. Have something inightful to say or please dont post at all… thank you

  • Noel,
It’s great that you take your time to read the blogs and answer questions when you can, but don’t you think you’re actually doing people a diservice by tricking them into thinking that their concerns are actually being heard by the people that make decisions? I’m not trying to downplay your role in the playstation store but as you have admitted before, you’re an artist not a developer or a content manager. You might be a bigger help by giving information on specific channels (whether by specific e-mail addresses or telephone numbers) that people can go through to contact the people who do control the content.

The art and design for the PS store is top quality by the way so props to you for whatever hand you had in that.

  • Thanks Noel for repling and agreeing to make the theme. You are now offically my favorite person on this blog now. :D

  • Man! You guys are cruel!

  • On topic for ver. 2.40. Theres a rumor floating around that Sony is going to wait until E3 to unveil the features on the upgrade. I find it to be a horrible idea. WHY? Beacuse theyre going to take time in their presentation to brag about a feature that should of been there in the first place. Why do that? Why admit that you spent over a year and a half playing catch-up to Live? UNLESS theres a feature that would surpass Live and make it a better, more seamless online experience, then it would be worth taking the time to boast about it and the fact that the service would remain free. But from past experience, Sony always seems to overhype everything just to let everyone down with the end result. I hope thats not this case this time around. Point is… If there isnt a feature that is going to be everything that Live is and more, just release the damn thing and be done with it… we all know its ready.

  • Let Me Start by saying this I have a 360 and a ps3 and im starting to notice that you get what you pay for. Xbox may charge monthly but ive got no complaints but ps3 is free and as much as i hate to say this but maybe because its free thats why its probably so crappy. And also that 2.40 update is a joke really, not that its coming out but the fact of the matter is that the ps3 released a year or so after the 360 and youre telling me you couldnt think of this during that year. I’ve bought the 40gb ps3 (and this my fault) and was throughly pissed because i couldnt play my ps2 games (and my ps2 broke I refuse to buy another one its third one). ID rather you take the Blu-ray Out than the ps2 feature out to reduce cost. And then finally what the hell is up with ps3 games. I mean the only reason I bought the ps3 was MGS4 (which will probably be out xbox soon anyway), Gran Turismo 5 (i like the one thats out but i want the full game) and final fantasy xiii(who knows how many more time that will be delayed). Its took 2 years to actually release your first major title. Bottom line sony should buy back everyones ps3 and just start working on the ps4 or something

  • In fact, I’ll go get Einhander as well, just for kicks. :) Another $5.99 that could have been yours.

  • pretty sweet update Sony! d/ling the two generous demos right now. gave this a 5 star cuz tennis holds a special place in my heart. can’t wait to try out of bounds also. all in all a pretty good update. are you guys going to post somehting about the video service on here that has been getting soooo much attention on the internets? looking forward to that and 2.4. and of course E3 08 will be the best.

    cheers,
    Lh

  • yo i agree wit westside, they will reply 4 something stupid. Let a demo about a video game about a green turd come out, they,ll give you info about who what when they made the game. But somethin serious like an update there all secretive

  • @ iampeck – way to bring down the entire PlayStation biz buddy! you really think MGS4 is ever going to make its way to 360? you shouldn’t even put MGS and 360 in the same sentence. I’ll bet you think the world revolves around you too. Do everyone here a favor and don’t post here again. reading thru your pointless garbage of a paragraph was painful to say the least. try to keep your posts somewhat related to the topic at hand.

    thanks,
    Lh

  • @95

People would buy more of them if the selection didn’t suck. It’s mostly first party SCEA games, and Crash Bandicoot, all of which are terrible games. I wish I knew why it was SCEA suddenly has a stance that none of us want Japanese made games, when those are exactly what made the PSone and PS2 worth owning. Let me say it again, SCEA. Your games are terrible, get third party games.

  • @ westsiide – when you say ‘we all know its ready’ who does that apply to? because I don’t know if 2.4 is ready? does anyone on here really know if its ready (besides eric lempel)? really you don’t know. but thanks for trying and thanks for staying OT!

    peace,
    Lh

  • @lakaihigh

    Mgs-Gamecube
mgs2 Substance-xbox had more feautures than the original
    Mgs3 Substance-xbox Same thing

see a trend oh its coming just when is the question. Mr video game genius

  • Heh, it’s the same complaint every Thursday which I’m almost positive all the complaints are falling on deaf ears.

@126 lol did you miss last year’s TGS with epic unveiling of the rumble controller? I wouldn’t put it past them to withhold it until e3 to tout it as their next big thing with that rumored waggle transformer controller after people shelled out $50+ on a dualshock 3 which is apparently not even out yet for Europe(Thanks SCEE lol!).

Sony just seems completely clueless about what they want to do with the PS3/PSP and gamers in general. If it wasn’t for Final Fantasy , Metal Gear, and the shoddy PS2 upscaling feature which I use more than playing what little ps3 games we get to install I would have not wasted my time and money on this generation. I actually believe things would change after the massive failure that was the ps3 launch during that brief magical instant during e3 last year where they seemed to have snapped out of it. Things looked like they were heading on the right track. However here we are going into another e3 with half the stuff they promised still not out, delayed, or turned out to be huge disappointments(Lair/Heavenly Sword). So I wonder what disappointments will come out of this year’s E3.

  • @ Iszk – hahaha I’m guessing that post was pointed in my general direction. Way to act mature on the PSB! you should take my advice too and try to keep your posts related to the topic this way you don’t make yourself look like a complete twat.

    cheers,
    Lh

  • @ iampeck – yeah but when all those previous titles released it was known from the beginning that they were only timed exclusives as I may recall. I haven’t found anything that says MGS4 is a timed PS3 exclusive. prove me wrong then we’ll talk!

    thanks,
    Lh

  • @135
    Completely agree…

    @134
It applies to anyone with half a brain. i Can almost guarantee you that theyre holding off until E3 to show off this new feature. I wouldnt be surprised if it took longer than that. Look at last years E3 that was announced.. Haze was delayed, Unreal was delayed, Little BP delayed, dont even get me started with HOME and Killzone2..etc..etc.. SONY is known for hyping things beyond belief and taking theyre sweet time releasing them. WHY? Who knows. I dont work for sony and yes i guess im just speculating. If you ran a business, wouldnt you supply your customers with things they wanted and have been requesting? Wouldnt that benefit YOU and THEM at the same time? Point is we have all been asking for the same things. Over and over.. time after time. Things we want and things that would obviously bring revenue and profit to SONY. After all, theyre still a business… right? Or have they became some kind of non-profit organization? Simple logic tells me that 2.40 is ready. I guess they think theyre doing a great job by attempting to strategically time the release.

  • AWESOME! Wahoo I really love these weekly thursday updates, even though I only go on the store to download mostly demos, it’s good to know what new things are on the store. And jeeze people need to calm down with the ps3 firmware update 2.40.. I guess their mothers never told them that “Patience is virtue.” Good Job Sony, keep up the good work.

  • You know I love my PS3 however I am seriously thinking about jumping ship for the other console just to have some RPGs to play!!
If SCEA doesnt release some soon I may just have to!! I hate FPS game and MGS4 just isnt a good enough reason to hang on to the dream that is ( What the future holds for the PS3)!! I really like RPGs and the 3 or so on PS3 just isnt enough!!!

  • @ westsiide – haha yeah i do believe Sony is in this for the money! however i still don’t believe 2.4 is fully complete and ready to be released yet. If it was i think they will release ASAP because they know we want it. its not like we haven’t been crying for it since November of 06… would they really be that cruel do you think?

    peace,
    Lh

  • @143
Hahah!!.. when is sony known to release things asap??!!

  • @86 Good Post!

You are absolutely right the Rating and Region excuses are totally BS. Nintendo manages to give me Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx 16, and NEOGEO games on my Wii’s virtual console. Sony definitely has the ability to provide PSOne classics from their own library. It’s stupid that some content does not make it to America. Wipeout Pulse for instance, its downloadable content is still not available 5 months after its release in Europe.

My conclusion…. Sony of America just does not care.

  • cool update. alread bought hot shots when it dropped but the top spin demo is cool and the videos are dope.

the psn theme is my favorite since the god of war one. i like the echochrome theme but hate the footstep sound. can we turn sounds off and still use the visual parts of themes like the echochrome and the other one with bullet/gunshot sounds (forget the game). if not then that would be a small but welcome firmware addition.

    peace.

  • @147

Yeah, lol. SCEA can’t get their ducks in a row for games that came out a decade ago, while Nintendo can get games upwads of fifteen to twenty years old out on a weekly basis. By the end of the year, X360 will have a larger library of better quality Xbox classics than Sony has of PSone classics, and the PSone feature had a full year headstart. Pathetic.
