PlayStation.Blog is a Year Old Today

261 0

Tonight’s a pretty big night. We, like every other PS3 owner, are gearing up for the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4 and clearing our calendars for the next few days. While June 12th may always be remembered among PlayStation fans as the day MGS4 blew us all away, June 11th is pretty special to us here at SCEA as well.

June 11th 2007 – the birth of the PlayStation.Blog

We knew from the very first post (600+ comments) that this was something you wanted – a direct-line between the people that create the games you love and those of you that play them. Hearing directly from industry decision-makers like Jack Tretton, Shuhei Yoshida, and Peter Dille was pretty unlikely a couple of years back, but we’ve done our best to make sure that is more the rule than the exception.

In just a year, we’d like to think we’ve become an important resource for both consumers and media seeking exclusive news, screens, videos, viewpoints, and tips from the world of PlayStation. For some of you, we’ve gathered that coming here to read up has become part of your daily ritual, and for that we thank you.

In speaking with bloggers in other disciplines – tech, travel, entertainment, dining – we’ve found that nobody is as engaged with the inner workings of their hobby than gamers like you. 300 comments on a post has quickly become common place here on PlayStation.Blog. 300,000 views of a video? You did it. In fact, the stats are pretty mind boggling – take a look:

Total number of posts: 437
Total number of photos: 1,200
Total number of videos: 80
Total number of links to the blog: 10,222
Total number of comments: 63,060
First commenter ever: Chris Grant of Joystiq!

Clearly, we wouldn’t be anywhere without such a passionate audience. And to give a little something back, we’d like to salute our top commenters – many of whom appear to have spent more time on the blog than any of us!

The rest of the Top 50 can be found after the jump. Oh, and if you see your “name” here, keep an eye on your inbox – we’ll be tracking you down to send you a t-shirt in honor of your dedication. Wear it with pride.

PlayStation.Blog First Birthday T-Shirt

Well that’s where we’ve been – here’s where we’re going in Year 2. We’re going to continue refining the look and feel of the blog, making it easier for you to find more stories with less effort. We’ve seen a surge recently in writer comment replies, and we’re committed to keeping those numbers up – and increasing. Third-party producers of PlayStation titles have recognized that *this* is the place to reach gamers – so expect more series of the Metal Gear Monday variety. And we’re speaking with our counterparts in Europe to bring more PlayStation news to you from that part of the world. We know you’re reading us from across the Atlantic, and we haven’t forgotten about you.

Once again, a sincere “thank you” to all of the readers and subscribers, the editors of other gaming websites who link to us, and everyone who’s taken the time to craft a post for the PlayStation.Blog.

Back to work.

  • Happy Birthday @ the .blog

Thanks for the slice of recognition, a little goes a long way, I’m sure I speak for all of the others recognized on the .blog, when I say that things like this are what make the community so strong, real people, giving real views, and treating others with a professional level of respect.

I don’t think the internet has ever made me feel warm and fuzzy before this point, oh wait… there was that one time, I got hit with a trojan, that bombarded me with video content from around the web(the nature of which cannot be shared here), That was a solid warm and fuzzy, until it ended in an abrupt and unnavoidable full reformat of my pc’s hd’s… Great fun!… but not quite as impressive as actually being acknowledged by the groups we dedicate our time, and effort to, for the betterment of the products, and betterment of the community, Thank You .blog, most of all for exsisting, and secondly for admiring us in return.

Much Respect Sony & PlayStation, and all the PR team responsible for the greatest video-gaming blog on the planet.

  • Congrats! Great blog!

  • Question? Why isn’t sony flooding the tv’s and everything with the biggest game of the year ads? I mean I haven’t seen but maybe 2 ads on tv in the past two weeks for MGS4 and that was on gamefly commericals.

Why are you guys not hyping the hell out of this game simular to Halo 3? Do you not want sales and people to buy it by the truck loads?

  • I got a feeling the forum is going to get crazzy tomarrow. MGS4 bundle 80 gig is out and I beat there is some new PS3 owner’s out there who have ?’s about PS3 and what to buy for it. OH and my PS3 is a year old this month too!!!!!!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Blog! I think you can tell form the multitude of positive comments that we love this blog, and we appreciate all the input from the world of PS.

Keep the content coming, be honest and open with us, and we will return the respect. That’s all we ask.

Great job guys, keep up the good work.

  • @151 Kedaro. Much repsect to you. Number 18! We have exchanged posts before. You are a credit to this blog – if only *everyone* in the top 20 was as balanced as you.

  • congrats playstation blog on your first birthday hopefully there will be more birthdays

  • Ooooohh a close #15! I’m surprised. Thanks for the recognition at least. Keep doing what you’re doing and you got my support. It’s been a great year.

    :)

  • Boy, the PS3 has come a long ways since last year…

I remember my feelings when this blog was first launched. In those days I wasn’t sure if the PS3 would make it.

Looking at the PS3 now, I’ve got no worries. Good job Sony, good job blog, and Happy B-Day.

Very excited about MGS4…now let’s just get some of these new RPGs back on Sony system…I really don’t want to buy a 360 in order to play my favorite genre of games, ok?

    12

  • oh damn I wish I got one.

  • playstationalltheway

congrats to everyone that made it!

  • WAAAAHOOOOO FOR FREE STUFF—thanks so much PlayStation Blog :-) I would like to thank the Academy, oh and God for making Japan which gave us PlayStation!!!!!!!

  • @ Mort

Thanks! likewise, I appreciate your words, and respect your intelligent opinions, The entire PlayStation.blog is a great community, I am amazed at the sense of family, and friend on this board, I’m still suprised at how few trolls there are, even though the few we have… try really, really, really hard sometimes.

    Is Mort your PSN tag?

If so may I add you so we can keep eachother notified of ‘goings on’ either of us might have missed?

  • Congrats to the top 50 on the shirts, those are pretty cool.

Congrats to SCEA on your first year, we’ll only be expecting more from now on. :-D

    Thanks

  • People love to blog away! To be honest, this is the only blog I reply to.

    gettiing ps3 tommorw

  • congrats to everyone who worked on the blog and those who consistently left messages!! :)

  • I just register to say Congrats!!

  • Man, I wish I was able to register back when I first started reading this blog…It just wouldn’t work for some reason, then it finally did one day. At any rate, what an amazing year it has been, looking forward to many more!

  • Happy Birthday PlayStation.Blog ! MGS4 just a few hours away can not wait!

  • Of course THIS is the place to get behind the scenes PS info. It’s the only official news outlet there is.

And that only counts if you are reading it on a computer, since you still can’t see the video content of the blog using an actual Playstation 3 browser.

    @ TheTwelve

How has the PS3 come a long way since this time last year? A new storefront, rumble got put back in and Profile 2.0 is not a long way.

Take those away and the situation is exactly the same. Still too few exclusives (most of which have turned out to be mediocre), no enhanced gaming community features or events, no Home, no in-game XMB, no “trophies”, The Getaway 3 is effectively canceled, Killzone 3 and Afrika still are not released, most games barely run at 720p so forget 1080p, GTA IV shifts downloadable content to the 360, Sixaxis is still the novelty feature it always was, still no downloadable movies or TV on the store …

The year may have changed but as a gaming platform the PS3 has barely moved.

  • The ps3 is going to dominate the console race, sony the MGS4 80gb bundle is selling out everywhere! Its like you launched a new console.

  • A year already! Wow. Congrats to the shirt winners.

How ironic that Gamesblow made that list. Congrats anyhow.

  • i would like to wish the playstation blog a happy b-day but i can’t since they erase ppl that critize sony for one thing or another!
yesterday,i posted on this site my disatisfaction about sony losing or rather not wanting to pursue third party developers such as esquare-enix (sp?).specially, when rpgs are concerned which at this moment our beloved platform is greatly lacking!.to make the story short yes my message was deleted by jeff without reason (i wasnt even spamming!) so, thats why i cant say this blog is great or whatever for the above stated reason!
is this blog just made to make accolades for sony? arent they here to listen to our wants/complaints? because if not then this blog is just a piece of P.R propaganda!
i will say it again SONY get your act together and bring some good japanese RPGS! and if anyone cares invites some developers from either namco or esquare so that we the TRUE FANS of the genre direct important questions to them.
lastly, can the guys from the firmware department do something about the crappy browser that we have. because the stinking browser freezes like no tomorrow and also sometimes display a “not enough memory” message! please sony(eric lempel) fix this asap. thanks

  • Please can someone respond to my question. Will the US PSN Store ever get Metal Gear Solid 1? Or do I have to buy it from the Japanese one?

  • @ Clinton

I know, I was shocked myself but the thing is I like to think of outlook on Sony as tough love. I want them to still know, while I love and support the Sony brand and only Sony brand, there is still things that need to be done and that they can always improve.

When people see me on here they usually think xbox 360 owner or whatever, but I’m not. I don’t own one and would never own one. I just want Sony to make an effort in giving us exclusive content for the ps3 and be aware of what needs to be implemented into their system every chance I can get.

I want the option to change display settings in game more than xmb, in game music or home… I’m not picky I think that is my number 1 option and wish Sony would get on the ball.

  • for the record i’m not a troll or anything like that.i’m just a pretty unhappy customer right now because i thought that the ps3 was the console to have when it came for JRPGS.but, sadly thats not the case since it seems it wants to become like the x-box because of the fps genre.also, i thought that when i bought my console the 17th of november 2006 that it was gonna be a top class console/machine but alas that was not to be with the also crappy browser that sony gave us.just one question guys! if the browser has some stability issues then how come something much greater as home or in-game xmb would flawlessly work? i guess time will tell.i just hope that SONY will fix all these issues before the implementation of any of these future feautures!
(i just hope fellow fans wont flame me for my posts)thanks

  • Hello admins of the PLAYSTATION BLOG

    Username: Darkus
    Email: w.darkus@msn.com

please help, never i have this error conection with PS BLOG

  • @Darkus – if I was one of the admins, and I saw you leaving a ton of comments that said absolutely nothing of value along with the other people posting comments that said nothing absolutely nothing of value until the comment count reached over 5,000 – i’d probably delete those comments and then change your password so you couldn’t log in again, and then change your e-mail address so you couldn’t recover said password.

    That’s just a theory – that’s what I would do if I was one of the admins…
