Hi all! Our Metal Gear posts are attracting so much attention that we’re popping back in ahead of schedule to answer some of your questions off the regular Metal Gear Mondays schedule.
To start, we have been getting reports that some of you are receiving partial digit UPVC’s Metal Gear Online Beta on the “Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2″ DVD inserts. We are aware of this issue and are working hard to remedy. If you’ve been affected by this issue, please contact us at http://www.konami-data.com/support/. Please be sure to include your partial code, and any other pertinent details (like a return email address, etc). We thank you for your patience.
Second, as some of you may have noticed, the download of the MGO Beta client is now available. Carefully following the instructions you received with your UPVC, you can go grab it. Once it’s downloaded and installed, and you hit the main menu, you’ll notice to proceed you need to sign in your PSN account. Once you’ve done that, you’ll see that there is an update that must be downloaded and installed. From there, the next menu is where you can sign up for your Konami ID/Game ID, which are required to play Metal Gear Online. You can also sign up for a Konami ID/Game ID at http://id.konami.net at any time using a web browser on a PC as well. Once you have signed up for your Konami ID/Game ID, and input it into MGO on your PS3, you can select the option to save the login and password and just login directly in the future without having to input it again.
Following that, until gameplay begins on the 21st, you will just receive an error if you try to sign in to play MGO right now.
As mentioned in the previous posts about Metal Gear Online and Konami ID, the Konami ID/Game ID will be used to offer community and other features with Metal Gear Online, similar to some other popular multiplayer online game web communities, except in this case the web community is directly integrated into the game client which allows for some special functionality. As you use Metal Gear Online, you will see how the PS3 web browser is seamlessly integrated into the experience, and then of course, you can go and access the community when you are away from your PS3 as well, using a web browser on a PC. We’ll reveal more about the community features of MGO at a later date.
Now we’ll just dive directly into some of your questions previous posts:

@I Love New York: You must sign in to play Metal Gear Online. There is no local play option.
darkiewonder asked: Any of the Konami folks will be playing in the BETA as well?
@darkiewonder: We sure will!!! We may try to arrange some matches with you all or something like that… Stay tuned!
Sheen asked: Upon downloading the Beta on the 17th, what can the player do? Would I be able to tool around the character creation settings and all that before I play? I’d like to do that beforehand.
@Sheen: Thanks! You can set up a Konami ID/Game ID through the MGO client/PS3, or can do so right now at http://id.konami.net, otherwise character creation and of course gameplay will not be available until the 21st.

This is a BETA. That means that problems will occur.
If you can’t handle ID’s and some downloading problems, you should leave the beta and began to wait the full game.

Will our Character data and progress be trasferred into the full release of MGO, or will we have to start from scratch?

ya seriously though guys, give konami a break. Ya we gotta deal with some minor issues like the multiple ID thing but in the end its not that big of a deal seeing as we can’t play right now anyways. Ya its a little frustrating but hey this is what Betas are for, to fix problems like this. i’m just as excited for Metal Gear online and even more excited for the game as everyone else, but I’m not gonna let some little problems ruin the experience. Also, about all your questions, give em a chance, its only been two days, and I’m sure they have a lot stuff going on with getting the servers up. anyways, good luck to everyone, hope the problems don’t kill it for anyone
I didnt have any issues downloading or geting my ID account started if you did like the posts said to do like a week before the download was ready you could of had your account set up already before the download started :D
I’m having a huge issue. Every time I try to download the update the server keeps on kicking me off saying server issue and makes me restart the game…….. I CAN’T DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please help…………………………..
Man i dont know why, but the code I got from gamecrazy doesn’t work :(
I tried last night getting my IDs using FireFox — 7 times no luck. Then I tried Internet Explorer and it worked on the 1st try.
If you want to know how to register your Konami id. with all this traffic here’s a trick.
1)with firefox use two tab (2 web pages) than try to log on konami until you reach the entry page (were you answer ALL the questions ) after DON’T PRESS NEXT…
2)Use the other tab and try to log on konami until you reach the entry page again BUT… as soon as you’ve been able to enter the page swicth to your first tab ( were the questions are answered) and PRESS NEXT.
and voilà you will be in the confirmation page and then to the complete page. You will recive an email confirmation at your email address you enter.
It works for me this morning. And the server was very busy. Give it a try.

Question: Is there some kind of party system or friend invite system in MGO?
Or like if I wanted to play with a friend would he be able to join the server I was in assuming there was room in it? Or would the only way be able to play w/ friends would be to join a server and then telling them what one you’re in so they can manually find it & join?
Question 2: Regarding mics, is it going to be open mic or push to talk or option for us to chose what one we’d like to use?
This is ridiculous, I’ve been trying to get my Konami ID for the past couple of days and I continue to get the same ERROR messages, will the issue be resolved by Monday? If not, does Konami or Sony plan to offer us anything if the problem continues during the week of the Beta?

Ok for one think i am one of the biggest fans of the MGS series and got my games paid off and everything and everytime that i try to sign up for an ID i am told that my time has expired, what gives, after less than a second the thing tells me it is expired and when i retry that stupid tells me that my email is already registered, i spent about an hour and still could not do it. Why in hell cant we just do it like other games, this is turning me off on the game to be honest.

your first question I have already answered before, yes they have announced an invite friends system, a in game messeging system, and a clan system, all three will be available when the full game comes out, details on how they will work or if they will be in the Beta is not known yet.
It just boggles my mind that Konami is intentionally hamstringing their game like this.
i read in the other post about MGS4 that the PS3 bundle will come with a controller that actually rumbles or something like that does that mean that MGS4 wont rumble or nothing with the controller that came with the 40GB PS3

man…y’all need to RELAX. take a deep breath and maintain focus. i had problems with the konami site as well, but PATIENCE prevailed and now i am locked and loaded and ready for action. you will make it by monday so stop crying and whining and enjoy what lies ahead……

Though I agree, 3 different IDs is retarded. It’s free, but that’s still being border-line brainless.
Seriously, this debacle is making me reconsider buying MGS4. As much as I love the games, if I can’t get into the MGO beta because Konami’s servers can’t handle people signing up for a service that THEY made mandatory, I’ll cancel my pre-order(which I got exclusively for the participation in the beta). I can wait until people start trading it in to buy it. I don’t mind jumping through hoops, but I can’t do that if the hoops keep getting put away.

Great Sony for releasing MGS Online beta however your servers are deliver incredibly low bandwidth.
It took 5 hours to download 350MB of the MGS 4 Online beta with a 1MB connection (127Kb/s)

Konami ID……….why? If you are gonna use your own id system at least make it work .Your website/registration is still not working properly………why?
This is possibly the worst set up for a beta I’ve ever seen. Making users use none gamer tags and sign up for two different sets? Pointless. Not to mention you can’t even access the pages to get those IDs. Badly executed guys.

@187: Hey, this isn’t Sony’s fault. This is Konami underestimating the popularity of the MGO beta. Keep in mind this is a beta, they’re doing it for YOU, not for money, if you can’t accept that please do not join the beta.
@191 – Um, not so much. They are actually doing this way more for themselves, as to work out potential issues (like these, perhaps). They need us AND our input to make a better product (not to mention that the need us to want to buy their product when it comes out), so I hope they are appreciating this, ’cause very few of us are.
@46 (I think) – To my knowledge, the currrent and former PS3 system releases have regular Sixaxis controllers, which do not “rumble,” no matter how much anyone would will them to do so. Ironically, my 1st Dualshock 3 controller arrived today, and I know it at least works for MGO (well, the initial start screen gunshot, anyway). Will try it with God of War II next…
I had an incomplete code and sent off an e-mail to Konami support as directed in the post. 24 hours later and I have a new code. My thanks to those at Konami for working extra hard to get it to me!

We cant even get the stupid KONAMI ID and GAME ID why does it matter if your beta code works or not. This is the worse system i have ever seen, what is wrong with the regular PSN name? Judging by how much of a screwup this is i cant imagine what its going to be like in june.

If I’ve already signed up for a Konami ID/Game ID before they went down, will the servers remember that or will I have to sign up again? I tried to login to see my information but I got a “page deleted” error.
I wish you guys would let us know how many people are going to be playing MGO. I’d like to know how many people it takes to crash your servers.
I think it would have been best if you hadn’t waited until the last minute to announce all this Konami ID and MGO beta information. Hopefully this will be a good lesson for the future for other developers and publishers of highly anticipated titles.
I’m patiently waiting Konami, but needless to say. You have a little less than 8 hours as of now to get your act together, even less if you want people to be able to sign up for an ID so they can play as soon as the Beta servers are supposed to be up and running.
I hope Konami doesn’t mind paying overtime. I think you’re going to need it.
