The airplane has the Wright Brothers. The lightbulb and record player (and about a thousand other things) have Thomas Edison. So who holds a similarly lofty position, “Father of the PlayStation?” That would be Ken Kutaragi.
You’ve probably heard his name before – Kutaragi was the man who got the PlayStation ball rolling in 1994, and presided over Sony Computer Entertainment during the release of the PlayStation 2, the best-selling in-home game system in history (more than 120 million units shipped worldwide).
This week at the annual D.I.C.E. Summit, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), presented Ken Kutaragi with its coveted 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award.
It’s very safe to say that if not for Ken Kutaragi, you would not be enjoying Uncharted or God of War, looking forward to games like Metal Gear Solid 4 or LittleBigPlanet, or even reading this blog. Thanks Mr. Kutaragi. The best experiences on the Playstation brand were FF7, MGS, Brave Fencer Musashi and awaiting the FF8 demo inside Musashi like if it was the actual game. Playing demos on the PS1 was so awesome back in the days. I think I played the MGS demo about 100 times. As great as games are today, I havent had so much fun since then. Probably cause I’m older.
Go PS3!! I love PS3 so much, so much better then jealous 360 lovers…My only negative input on it is that we need some new games>>start working on it !!

a bad mistake letting him him go, im afraid the next playstation ( ps4 ) will not be as good as previous sony systems, that got better with time.. as devs learned its true power, kutaragi knows how to make a system
im afraid next gen everyone will try to pull a wii… and go with minimal upgrades to the hardware and that is why they didnt need super ken

I still remember back in 1997 when I got my PlayStation(1)…the flexibility that machine offered was incomparable. It was able to make beautiful 2D games as well as 3D ones and it allowed for longer games(just like blu-ray), it was a powerhouse back in the days. Nowadays it might look ancient, but back then nothing could compare to it, hell not even the Dreamcast.
I remember that my ps1 came with one of those free demos and on the back of demo’s case there was a phrase I’d never forget:
“Never underestimate the power of PlayStation”
I hope they re-hire Kutaragi once ps3 starts doing better.

Meh, Kutaragi was a visionary, but his constant overhyping of his products (PS3) was what brought Sony down this generation.
