Hey everyone. We know you like to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a new System Software update in the works.
Firmware v2.01 is a minor update that will improve the stability of PLAYSTATION 3.
We’ll provide more specifics as the update is about to go live, but we thought we’d give loyal blog readers advance notice!
I’m totally agree with my pal here (mi6-bond). My PSN is constantly drooping the connection hope this firmware fix this up it getting my nerves 4 real.

I hope this fixes the random freezing/lockups I get when using my PS3. I’ve only had mine for a little over a week and its been locking up randomly such as viewing information on a demo I downloaded or just even trying to load a game to play! I’m noticing too it sometimes knocks my other wireless PC offline when my PS3 signs in to the playstation store, argh

I hope this will fix the problem when you change video settings and your theme or wallpaper etc goes to default.
Suggestion:
Info bar tells you when you have unread messages and next to the Message Box icon, it will have say ‘1’ or ‘2’ next to it so you dont have to click it, then click recieved to find out if youn have some messages you need to read.
The upscaling of Ps2 games is now broken since update 2.00!!!

IT FIXES THE CRAP LAG FROM THAT POS TICKER, THE VIDEO PLAYBACK BUTTON THAT TAKES 30 SECONDS TO LOAD AND THAT POS REMOTE START THAT CRASHES PSPs. I DOUBT SONY WOULD ADD DIVX SUPPORT THIS SOON, BUT I SURE AS HELL DOUBT IT WOULD SUPPORT ALL DIVX MOVIES. SCREW U SONY. TEST UR FING FIRMWARE BEFORE U RELEASE IT SO I DONT GET SO PISSED.

We need some better playlisting features (among other music player features) for the PSP.
I don’t see the logic in waiting until tuesday for the “scheduled” time if what the release contains is essential to actually USE THE SYSTEM!!

we need fix on the timed out (we can use the web browser yet the PSN fails in the test) and when it does it cant stay connected for more than 20 minutes

Don’t think its PS3’s fault that Assassin’s Creed it bugged tho??? Xbox360 version is bugged to i read??? Other games work ok. Sounds rushed out to me. Not sure really.
I hate to say it but even a patch that fixes things is a good one IMHO. But for real guys your InGameXMB is comeing it’s has been confermed for many days now just shut up and wait like the rest of us.

More Features for the PS3:
Give us the fallowing:
Take screenshot of XMB: This when pressed would take a snap shot of the XMB so we can post our custom themes without haveing to fumble with lighting on the screen for over three hours just to take one shot of the custom theme we made.
System Password lock out:
This would let the owner of the system lock out anybody who is not the primary user from useing the PS3. This is a must have for those of us who have brothers, or sisters who just don’t get how complex this thing is and wan’t to mess it all up and screw around with the language settings, or mess up saved games or content we DLed from PSN.
Black theme color:
For the love of god give us back the black theme color! I loved it as it was easy to read everything on the menu and it was vary easy on my eyes at night.
Remote play features:
PSP over PS3 online play:
Ok this is one thing alot of people ask about who don’t have a wierless router. They always ask if they can use the PS3 to connect to the internet and play the PSP online, or surf the web.
So this would be a perfict way to get both machines to work togather even more than they do now. Say I don’t have a router, fine I just connect o the PS3 and I can play useing the PS3s online connection without haveing to buy or set up a wireless rounter that would set me back over $200.00 big ones.

Is there any chance we could get these in like, a patch instead a complete firmware reinstall??
I don´t know if it is possible taking in mind how the PS2 is internally but it will be faster (Having to download the WHOLE firmware everytime a minor release gets online is not very nice. For us, and also for you guys) and safer (The patch could overwrite the files as needed instead of the complete thing).
Not sure if it is possible but it will be better. And it would be the first step into upgradeable browser, codecs, and stuff.

So this might explain why I can’t play Uncharted for five minutes without it locking up.

What are the chances to get the PS3 like a region-free DVD/BlueRay player?
I mean, that thing only plays region 1 DVDs and you are leaving a lot of people outside that window.
((For example I can only play region 1 & 4 DVDs which are not very common here))

Well at least they’re coming out with a fix to the various problems people are experiencing with things like remote start, freezing and streaming. Better that they do this than not at all. I’m not expecting anything more than this since this is only a minor update.
Interested to see what they put in the store this Tuesday. Pain perhaps? or High Velocity Bowling? or both? May as well put a bit of content in the store since it’s the holidays and there won’t be another store update till the following Thursday.
I Wish they’d update the store twice a week instead of just once a week. The Japanese and South-East Asia stores get updated regularly, no specific day. The US and EU stores should follow suit in my opinion.

I know many want the “In-game XBM” feature and some other stuff, but i would really like to see some improvement on the PS2 compatibility since i bought the PS3 system (80GB system) to be able to play both PS2 & PS3 titles

Please, add charts encoding ISO-8859-2 and Unicode UTF-8 – you have many clients in middle Europe, but they cannot read web pages corectly with PS3 internet browser. PLEASE!!!!

You might want to check #5 View your active downloads, pause, and resume them. that feature has been in there for a while now lol
And people stop spamming with what features you want in the next firmware update.
this better fix the Assassin’s Creed glitches. don’t know if firmware updates affect software, though.
There seems to be an awful lot of people having problems with Assassins Creed, freezing and frame rate issues, well this may help to fix it , all you have to do is disable the information board, press triangle on it and disable it and these problems should go away. Also do not sign into the psn network
This has worked for me (for now)
I’ve read a post over at PS3forums from someone that works in Tech Support (above the Ubisoft guys) and has talked to them saying the Firmware isn’t the issue as they’ve had people call who haven’t updated to the latest firmware. It seems to be all on the game itself so it’s up to Ubisoft to patch the game (he said both versions have issues so it’s in the game’s coding).

1) Sony is aware we want in-game XMB (specifically to play custom soundtracks, and obviously to receive and respond to messages)
2)Sony will not change the XMB or get rid of it all together. They have recreated it in other hardware (PSPs, TVs, Media Servers, Cameras soon) that they want a universal menu screen.
3)@Tiger007, i know how to de-mux mkv videos and copy them into a recognizable format. (takes about 30 min (depending on length/quality)
4) AC glitches (as other have mentioned) are “fixed” by disabling the (weeks old RSS feeder) and abstaining from signing in to PSN (or the disabling of messages pertaining to the PSN). This should “fix” the issues until an official patch is released.

HMMMMmm! I wonder when will Sony star to listen to their fans?
Well, maybe when they start losing those fans. Who knows! I guess time will tell.
How about ditching crappy GAMESPY and the server based model for an actual decent online gameplaying experience….and of course IN GAME XMB??
