Hi Everyone, I’m Kyle Moffatt, the Public Relations Specialist for Sony Computer Entertainment Canada. Yes, there is a Sony Computer Entertainment here in Canada and we also do cool events like the one held this past Wednesday.

We hosted an exclusive preview event for the Canadian media. We took over a venue in downtown Toronto and filled it with the wicked games that will be available this holiday season, and early 2008, for PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2. Media who attended spent time with:

* Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
* Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
* God of War: Chains of Olympus
* Buzz!: The Mega Quiz

And many more top SCE games

We also had tremendous third party support as Ubisoft, EA, Activision, D3, THQ, LucasArts, Rockstar, 2K Sports, Capcom and Sega attended.

Some of the playable third party games included:

* Haze
* Rock Band
* Need for Speed Pro Street
* Call of Duty 4
* Guitar Hero III
* Dark Sector
* WWE Raw vs Smackdown 2008
* Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron (playing on the new Star Wars PSP of course!)
* Manhunt 2
* NHL 2K8
* Devil May Cry 4
* The Golden Compass

I’d like to thank the third parties as well as my counterparts at SCEA for taking the time to help us build such a successful event as well as sending spokespeople to demo the games. This holiday season is going to be the best gaming season I’ve ever been a part of and I can’t wait to play! I hope you’re all anticipating it as much as I am!

  • 50: With downloadable game, there’s absolutely no explanation whatsoever for a price difference NOW. It’s that simple. With hardware, as you said, you have duties, but also transport, and maybe the fact that canadian retailer are more greedy and markup could be higher (unless you’re buying at a Sony shop, but even then…). I agree with you, it’s not much, but it could explain a “small” difference.

    So what I’m saying is: They have to fix the cost on the PSN NOW! It’s way too obvious. And that’s were we pay the most. As stated by many people, some games were up to 33% more than U.S. Think about it… $2.99 in U.S. and $3.99 in Canada? Hard to explain.

    Then, sure enough, hardware has to come down too! When I said I could understand a price difference in hardware, sure enough I didn’t mean a huge diffence.

    I agree with you, it’s sad, but cross-border shopping may end up being the solution. Sadly, Sony will likely say one day: “Canada is not a good market for our product” but as you said, %20-%30 is worth it!

  • Seeing as all these titles listed are playable, i bet we will be seeing some of them show up on the ps store in the comng weeks. My guess is. Gran Turismo Prologe demo this week. Then on the 25th hopefully the COD:4 demo. On Dec. 1st maybe Uncharted; drkaes fortune demo will show up.

    If im predicting right the next few weeks are going to be amazing for demos. Then early next month we will be able to play the full versions.

    Also im sad there was no BIg Bang announcement, i hope we hear about something huge here in the next little while, because sony really needs a big boost.

  • It’s nice that SCEA seems to be paying more attention to the Canadian market… but might have been nicer if you had invited some Canadian GAP members to attend and possibly help demo some of the games. We miss out on many of the GAP opportunities because we’re not U.S. citizens.

    … though at least we finally have a Playstation.ca website now! :)

    (and as others have mentioned… now that the Canadian dollar is par, it would be nice to see some pricing drops!)

  • where is the 2.00 firmware announcement? I been waiting for this since summer.

  • Elsa43, I agree! I wish that there was more inclusion of Canadians within some of the USA events. I’m sure some of the contest and gaming laws might be a deterrent to them though.

  • If These games were playable, When can we expect demos on the PSN?.

  • Clinton514,
    I don’t think that they could include us in U.S. events, which is the reason why I think when they have a Canadian event it would be nice to invite a few local G.A.P. (Gamer Advisory Panel) or PSU members.
    Regarding contests, they have somewhat resolved the issue of Canadians not being eligible for most of the Playstation contests by having a Canadian Playstation site – but most of the contests rely on being in a specific city, or are purchase-dependent (like the EB games contest). It would be nice to see something similar to GAP’s “top 3” on the Canadian site where people pick the top 3 games they are interested in for their Playstation console (PS3, PSP or PS2)… and someone wins those games monthly. The cost would be minimal and it would encourage return traffic to the Canadian Playstation site which is currently fairly static and does not really encourage people to go back.

  • some things are difficult for the layman to understand…six weeks ago a big box store said they were sold out of the 60gb and were not getting any more…and then the same store sold out the 80 and they haven’t carried any version of the ps3 since oct. 4. it is discouraging for me a sony fan watching people asking the clerk about buying one and end up buying wi as no ps3 is not available

  • some added info:and then they are told a 40 gb will be available in nov….the consumer has to be confused…leaving empty handed or buying an alternative…

  • toronto has a large indian population….and bollywood movies are shown on our local television…just read that in europe they are releasing singstar bollywood for the ps2. its on youtube. it will have english subtitles…india has a population of one billion and some

  • The only game I see worth getting is uncharted.

  • in todays edition of the toronto star(oct. 20) in the video games section everyday shooter got four stars out of four…quarter of the page is devoted to how fantastic the game is….the reviewer bret dawson says…this is one of the best games of the year…he also says jonathan mak ….”he is terribly clever” article also comments on how the downloadable games for ps3..i quote…do not blow the hardware but blow our minds instead
